Publisher's summary
From the New York Times best-selling author of the Riftwar Cycle - including the original Riftwar, the Serpentwar, the Darkwar, the Demonwar, and now the Chaoswar - comes the latest entry in one of the most treasured and enduring sagas in modern fantasy: A Crown Imperilled.
War rages in Midkemia once again, and behind the chaos, disquieting evidence points to dark elements at work.
As enemies march across the realm wreaking destruction, its brave and loyal defenders battle to survive - a struggle made more perilous now that Jim Dasher's trusted intelligence network has been cleverly dismantled. Region by region, Midkemia is being ripped apart, and the loyal spy and his allies find themselves overpowered at every turn.
Signs of the kingdom's impending doom surround them. King Gregory of the Isles has yet to produce an heir. Roldem and Rillanon have each been plagued by palace coups that threaten to topple their thrones. Lord Hal of Crydee and his great friend Ty Hawkins, champion swordsman of the Masters' Court, have been entrusted with smuggling Princess Stephané and her lady-in-waiting, the lovely and perplexing Lady Gabriella, out of Roldem to safety. But the rising danger has made finding refuge treacherous.
Nowhere is safe, including Ylith, Midkemia's strategic bastion, where Hal's younger brothers Martin and Brendan hold off an onslaught of brutal Keshian Dog Soldiers and a mysterious force from beneath the sea. Yet courage alone is not enough to withstand the continued enemy assault. Without reinforcements, hope of success fades. Martin, Brendan, and their compatriots know that while losing Crydee, the legendary city on the kingdom's edge, would be devastating, the realm can still be saved. But if Ylith falls, all is lost.
As Jim, Hal, and all their brothers in arms fight for their lives, Pug and the Conclave of Shadows embark on a magical quest to hunt down the dark force orchestrating the destruction before Midkemia is annihilated. And time is running out...

Now, a mission of the Sisterhood has returned to reconsecrate the site - but the metallic nightmares still lurk in the darkness, guarding a secret that has lain dormant for millennia.

Story
Cinderella married the man of her dreams - the perfect ending she deserved after diligently following all the fairy-tale rules. Yet now, 13 and a half years later, things have gone badly wrong, and her life is far from perfect. One night, fed up and exhausted, she sneaks out of the palace to get help from the witch who, for a price, offers love potions to disgruntled housewives. But as the old hag flings the last ingredients into the cauldron, Cinderella doesn't ask for a love spell to win back her Prince Charming. Instead, she wants him dead.

Good. but had some plot inconsistencies
Another good book by Raymond Feist. Had some plot inconsistencies that I didn't expect from Feist. First character X is doing something, then in the next chapter it talks about character Y doing it instead. Still a good continuance of the epic story started many many books ago.

redemption in ending
the author once again leaves you searching for the next book. what an epic and unthought of ending. a little predictable with the return of a couple of characters but the reintroduction was really unique in it's delivery but repetitive in it's overall idea. I have to say the guy reading is getting better at his voices and character identification but overall emotion is lacking for me. I hope that the next book being the conclusion does not fall off like a couple if the previous sagas and the one reading throws his all into the telling!

Great story, but reader was inconsistent.
Names kept being pronounced not only different from all the other books, but the narrator pronounced them differently during the narration within the same books.

Elegant way connecting the beginning with end
Masterful writer and an epic tale, shame the narrator is so bad, but don't let that deter you from listening to this excellent book.

I hate this reader.
love the story but hate this reader so much I almost gave up. he blast through and rarely pauses between sentences. you start getting confused when a group of people are talk as to who said what. or when the story jumps from people over here. to people over there. just a terrible reader.

Great story and narrator improving
Best listened to with speed set to 0.85. Pronunciation started to improve by the last 2 chapters of the book. More variation of different voices are much improved his voice also Carrie’s more appropriate emotional tone and much less monotone, which is greatly appreciated.
Overall, this book is much more tolerable to listen to.

Getting impatient for the end
There are very few interesting developments in this story. It's mostly just a continuance of what happened in the last book, there's a resolution to most of the "civilian" storyline, but otherwise you are left wondering how this will all end and what it will all mean. There's actually not enough exposition, just more of the same old stuff. I dont like the narrator but that is subjective. I think the series already saw its peak a long time ago, but at least I only have one more left. Too many characters having adventures that are too similar to their ancestors' adventures. The last 30 min packs in a ton of new interesting ideas. This book SHOULD have been that.

Quite a boring and monotonous performance. Very few accent changes for the different characters. This is an abridged version that's not clearly stated.
