Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

So good! Couldn't stop listening!

Incredible narrator, enjoyable to listen to. Very captivating story with the right amount of plot twists. Author did a phenomenal job with describing the characters, making it easy to like each one in their own way. I couldn't stop listening to this story! Loved every second!

Squales are a coming!

This is a great book especially if you love fringe sciences and wacado fun! I am not going to do my own synopsis because I am not pretending to be a book critic let alone why anyone would even care what I think about anything is nothing short of 21 floors of stupid. Anyway, this audio book is so well done...the real star of the show is the voice actor, "Ray Porter. His acting and enunciation are top notch and the bees knees. The story is pretty good too. I highly encourage you to just turn off your logical, analytical brain and sut back and enjoy! It isn't an immature or so so far out there it passes the Ice Pirates in Space but it is about different dimensions and even a surprise visit from Uncle Cthulhu! So sit back, relax, and enjoy an order of Calamari from Olive Garden while listening to this excellent fun house, flower sack slide of an adventure!

Incredible read

Gripping story with humor and a bit of everything. A new favorite right up there with Harry Potter and Dracula Audibles.

Best Book I have listened to this year!!

14 is an awesome book. it's nothing like i thought it would be and some parts were confusing like the space door and why it was there and what it had to do with the machines in the building. I hated when a character died but the rest of the characters were great . Narrator totally made this book. his different voices and accents were perfect. I really got into it.

“14” should be a Sci-Fi classic!

I’ve listened to this story three times in so many years. Love all the characters, and the mystery, humor, horror, and plot. Major great entertainment.

The performance saves this story

Much like the characters in the story, i was determined to uncover what the mystery of this building was all about. i found the tone to jump from overly family friendly to showtime after dark borderline pornographic. The characters across the board are very one dimensional, in fact, all the female characters speak with the same voice. There is great twist with the character Andrew that i did not see coming. i would say this story is a like a cheesy, summer sci-fi wannabe blockbuster. The other reason i stayed with it, was because of the reader. He did a phenomenal job. Kudos!

Fun Mindless SciFi Read

This book was no literary masterpiece, but it was FUN! The characters are pretty one dimensional, the dialogue sounds like it was written for TV, but the story itself was very absorbing. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a fun read.

A Mystery Novel. Charming and Unexpected

This is a mystery novel. I didn't know that going into it, and I'm probably giving it a lower score because I just don't favor mystery novels. That being said, the book was pretty enjoyable and performed well. Without giving too much away, I'll say it was amazing how the story changes from reality to fantastical.

What I liked about this book: The love interest. Their chemistry is non-conventional, and really refreshing. I really liked all the characters, they were real, likable people that you would want to hang out with later, and you really cared for them. Which is surprising, because it's a large cast for such a small book.

What I didn't like: Now that I've listened to it and the mystery is solved, I don't want to listen to it again. Again, this is my problem with mysteries in general, so I'm probably biased. It was a little slow, and I find the main character the most uninteresting of the lot, though I love the other characters.

Will I listen to it again: No, I don't think so. BUt I am glad to have listened to it in the first place
