Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

So glad I picked it back up
I started reading this book back when it first came out, but was intimidated by the size of it and never finished it. I ended up watching the HULU TV show they made and enjoyed it, but lost interest in picking the book back up.
The book is SO much better than the show and I’m in tears with the ending. Full on chills and this was the most pleasurable experience I’ve had with a Stephen King book, besides Hearts In Atlantis.
Four stars on the performance because sometimes the edits were sharp and you could tell they recorded on a different day, but it wasn’t too bad.

Gripping! I’ve read and listened at LEAST ten times!
Captivating and suspenseful is all I can say. I love how he has woven Easter eggs throughout. The narration is one of the best aspects!

Fantastic!
A master of storytelling, Stephen King spins an amazing tale of fantasy and a true life event, that left our own country reeling for decades. In the authors note , Stephen King talks about how much time was spent , researching this subject and some of the characters involved . Myself being from Dallas, I was really impressed about the attention to detail, the road names and landmarks , he really did his due diligence to getting it right . Wasson’s reading of this story is nothing short of a masterpiece performance, lending each character a voice and a persona , that draws you in. Between the two, the author and reader , each character is fleshed out , making it hard not to invest feelings in the main characters.. I for one , was moved to tears , at the ending . Well done Mr. King , I didn’t want it to end !

Perfect pairing
This is my third listening of this one, and it will probably happen again - it’s THAT good. The superb story from King is given LIFE by Craig Wasson. His accents, dialects, and immitations immerse the listener into the story so well that you can see them standing before you. King has alwas been on my list if “must read”, and now I am out collecting other Wasson narrations.

The beginning was strong but somewhere around 50-75% completion, the story began to drag on a bit. Still worth the read. Love the 50s
