Publisher's summary

Have you ever experienced the repeated delays, pressures, and disappointment associated with Saturn's transits and cycles? This classic astrology text, revered by both beginning and professional astrologers alike, offers a fresh perspective on how to handle the influence of this much-maligned astrological symbol.

World-famous astrologer and Jungian analyst Liz Greene brings her unique psychological approach to Saturn, showing us how the frustrating experiences connected to this planet can be turned into opportunities for greater insight and meaning in our lives. Saturn, she says, symbolizes a psychic process, one that allows us to utilize the experience of pain for self-discovery and greater understanding.

Greene traces the character of this most important planet through sign, house, aspect, synastry, and its role in mythology. She offers a brilliant analysis of Saturn to reveal the face of the Initiator who, for the price of our honesty, offers us greater consciousness, self-understanding, and, eventually, freedom.

This 35th anniversary edition includes a new foreword by leading astrologer and author Robert Hand.

Eye Opening and Insightful

I’ve listened to this book and will do so numerous times over. I am in the midst of my first Saturn return, and it is very insightful to be given this information to aid me in understanding what my work is and how I can go about learning and evolving through it. Liz Green does a wonderful job expressing the great treasures that come from integration of our Saturnian challenges and it is something I believe could benefit all of us.

Making something hard to understand accessible

One of the most influential and informative astrological books yet written. Highly recommended. Good listening for astrologers of all levels as well as psychologists and lay people.

Comprehensive and thought provoking

As a newbie astrologer and student of psychology I greatly appreciated this in depth look at Saturn as an archetype and in relationship to the signs and other planets. I’ll definitely return to this book as a resource while I continue to explore through client charts also. I’m developing a more harmonious relationship with Saturn as I continue to absorb these ideas.

outdated information, boring narration

I can't get past Liz Greene's consistent use of the masculine pronouns. I'm not sure when this was first published, but it gives me a real old-fashioned vibe. Heavy on the psychology of "a man". She pairs the houses with the signs which doesn't work for me either. Disappointing.

Mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings about this book. It contains of the most insightful readings of Saturn in the houses and signs that I’ve heard, and especially helped me understand my own Saturn placement. But at the same time, I find the aspect section to be quite unhelpful, and much of the heavily gendered psychological theory not just outdated, but renders much of the text unusable for queer people with diverse expressions of gender and sexuality. Of course, this is not uncommon for most foundational astrology texts, but it’s more prevalent and disappointing than I expected.
