This book could have been a contender

This book might have been great but I had to grit my teeth to finish it. The narrator's swallowing and smacking and general unedited salivating was more attention grabbing than her scratchy old lady voice. It was like having a great song come on the radio and trying to listen to it through static and the bleed over of another station. Depressing. I want to know what happens next but listening to all that slobber makes me want to clean my ears with an ice pick

Too Much Background Noise

My biggest struggle with this was the background noises! Pages turning, the wet mouth sounds the narrator kept making. I could barely focus on the story.

juicy mouth sounds

I love the book, and honestly, the narrator's performance was great. My only complaint would be the juicy smacking and swallowing right in my ear. I love asmr, but I try my best to steer clear of mouth sounds. Just makes me cringe and I couldn't get lost in the story like I needed to.

book one is incredible

the story was wonderful; full of sadness, comedy, romance, action, and passion. The only complaint I would have would be the performance. There were several times within the book reading that the reader would make chewing, sucking, or other strange noises with her mouth. It was very distracting.

sizzle! Just have to warm up to the narrator

great story! Very hot, although the heroine seems so distracted by events when she should really be more distracted by Drake.
I had a hard time getting used to the narrator's voice. She sounds like a 60 yo smoker that partied hard. But the French accents are done well. Also, I could her the narrator breathing and smacking and gulping at times , so maybe the producers need to do a better job on editing? It was very distracting from a very enjoyable story.

Barbara Rosenblat is terrible

I love this series. Have read the books many times but it’s been awhile. As I was going on a road trip, I decided to buy several Katie MacAlister Dragon books on audio. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how awful Barbara Rosenblat is. Amazing considering she has voiced over 600 books. Alas, she just is NOT the voice of Aisling. While Barbara has good enunciation, she also has a smokers voice and terrible vocal fry. In addition, she is very breathy and you can hear the spit in her mouth swishing around before she swallows, which just grosses me out. I have about 7.5 hours left in the first book I bought :-/

Oh, how I love my Katie & Barbara!

I have been a faithful Katie Macalister fan from day 1.... Before I joined Audible-I READ every series she has out and in doing so, my mind had created it's own opinion of all the character's voices, traits, etc... So, when I purchased and began listening to the Audible versions- narrated by Barbara Rosenblat, I admit I was a bit worried it wouldn't do them justice.... Her voice is very distinct- BUT... Oh, how I was SOOOO wrong!!!! Barbara's unique vocal ranges and absolutely superb variations on the characters accents BLEW ME AWAY!!! There really is no other narrator who could pull it off so flawlessly! Bravo Katie, and BRAVO Barbara!!!!

Sloppy mouth noises

If you're ok with that, go for it. Otherwise, read this book, don't listen to it. As far as the story, it was ok. Aisling was a screw up throughout. But she finally bumbled her way through to a reasonable ending. There was some sex but it wasn't graphic. I won't be continuing on with the series as much as I dislike starting something and not finishing it. Unfortunately between the inept female lead, the half-assed romance and the sloppy mouthed narrator I'm just not going there.

Funny, interesting but a little too wet

What did you love best about You Slay Me?

I love the craziness that is Ashling and love Jim. He is almost as good as Kevin Hearne's Oberion

What did you like best about this story?

The story is very fun and funny.

What three words best describe Barbara Rosenblat’s performance?

Wet, moist, breathy

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Seriously!?

Any additional comments?

Barbara is a great performer for this story. However, there are some points where you can hear, I mean seriously HEAR her swallowing spit! Other times you just wish she would swallow so her words aren't so... lip smacking. Yuck. It's distracting enough to actually miss what's happening in the story.
