Publisher's summary

In her now classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon told the story of Claire Randall, an English ex-combat nurse who walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands in 1946, and disappears… into 1743. The story unfolded from there in seven best-selling novels, and CNN has called it "a grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]." Now the story continues in Written in My Own Heart's Blood.

It is 1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington's troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife; his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is; and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie's wife, Claire, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.

The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in 20th-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family's secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy - never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.

Written in My Own Heart's Blood is the brilliant next chapter in a masterpiece of the imagination unlike any other.

Listen thru to the end.

My 2nd listen, and evidently I gave up before the end the first time. Much more satisfying to get all the way through.

Diana Gabaldon has done it again!

I have read the entire Outlander series, multiple times. Divina Porter brings them to life beautifully. The joy of listening to the unabridged versions are excellent company when I am driving, quilting, or doing anything which requires my head not in a book. Diana G writes beautiful, delicate details, which is something I enjoy. She is a powerful storyteller. Written in my Hearts Own Blood was compelling from beginning to end. I can not wait for Go Tell the Bees that I Am Gone....

One of the best historical fiction series ever

I LOVE the whole Outlander series! With this being the final book in the series, I couldn't have asked for a better ending. That being said, I want more!

As always, Diana Gabaldon and Davina Porter deliver!!!

I can’t wait for the next book. Every time I read or listen (and I have done so multiple times) to the series I get deeply immersed in the Outlander world. Diana’s writing is engaging and addictive and Davina’s emotion filled narrative is amazing with her use of distinct voices, male and female, and her variety of accents. Even the raspiness of Roger’s broken voice and the tongue-tied Fanny. Davina doesn’t just narrate the story, she always delivers an amazing performance. And listening as I have done now with Starz’s Outlander fourth season running, I easily translate the images of the actors into the story with Davina’s voices. Well done, everyone, well done.

Dramatically fantastic

I will warn you that if you’re eager to address everything Roger and Brianna don’t hold your breath. You don’t meet them until 9 hours in and from there have very few chapters with them. Aside from that it was great and it was bitter sweet to have a “short” book again. You’ll dive much more into William and Ian. And this book had a nice balance of history and personal plot. I can’t wait for what’s next!
