Publisher's summary

In her now classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon told the story of Claire Randall, an English ex-combat nurse who walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands in 1946, and disappears… into 1743. The story unfolded from there in seven best-selling novels, and CNN has called it "a grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]." Now the story continues in Written in My Own Heart's Blood.

It is 1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington's troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife; his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is; and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie's wife, Claire, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.

The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in 20th-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family's secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy - never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.

Written in My Own Heart's Blood is the brilliant next chapter in a masterpiece of the imagination unlike any other.

Awesome!

Absolutely loved this book! Can't wait for book #9. I laughed, cried, and cringed. Diana is simply the best author. Davina Porter does a fantastic job telling the story. I'm going to have a hard time finding other books to read because my expectations are set so high after reading & listening to this series.

Another Great One!

It was a bit hard trying to remember all the characters and plot. It took me a few chapters to get back in the swing of it. It was well worth it. Great book to the series.

Loved it but wanted more

Obviously I'm an Outlander addict to have made it this far . And because it's Claire and Jamie, I loved it all . But more than her other books Gabaldon skips over some parts that I wanted to know about... and seems to share too much about parts that seem irrelevant. For example there detailed surgeries that end up insignificant in light of the whole plot, yet we don't hear about the travel from Philadelphia to Savannah or from Savannah to the Ridge. When Claire and Jamie first go to the Ridge it takes half a book. Now they go without so much as a word. I'm not complaining and I love the story I just still wanted more.

On book 8 and still going strong!

This is a brilliant story - and one of the longest i have ever read/listened to. I usually gives up by book three when the books are about 600 pages long because the author runs out of material and the story stops making sense or just becomes boring. But D.G. Is brilliant, an I even try to save the story and only listening a little at the time (if i can) so that the story can continue for as long as possible - because there is a long time until the next book is released. If you like historical romances this series is a must read!

The last of Eight in the outlanders series

I didn't want this to end. Will search out any other similar. The author pulled me along through all the books. I couldn't stop. It was an obsession. Really enjoyed them all and not sure what to do with myself now that my favorite people are all home and all is well.

Long but rewarding

The author’s knowledge of history, geography, language, medicine adds much depth and detail to the story. And the reader makes each character come alive.
