Publisher's summary

In her now classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon told the story of Claire Randall, an English ex-combat nurse who walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands in 1946, and disappears… into 1743. The story unfolded from there in seven best-selling novels, and CNN has called it "a grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]." Now the story continues in Written in My Own Heart's Blood.

It is 1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington's troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife; his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is; and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie's wife, Claire, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.

The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in 20th-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family's secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy - never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.

Written in My Own Heart's Blood is the brilliant next chapter in a masterpiece of the imagination unlike any other.

No surprise, great as always.

Probably my 4th or 5th time through the series, but only the 2nd trip through this book. Still great, found lots of little things I had forgotten from the first read.

Fantastic story....

I laughed, I cried and then I cried again when it ended! Davina Porter is FANTASTIC as the narrator! This book was one of my favorites out of the whole story. Can't wait until February to at least watch it again. I'll miss my Fraser family!

What a Great Time Travel Series!

I have all of this series I CD form, alas now everything has gone digital and I had to download this book in GREAT ANTICIPATION of the next boo which has been a long time coming. This series is probably one if the BEST time travel books ever written and what makes it even better is Davina Porter which brings the book alive. I am so happy that she will be reading the next book. I can’t wait for it to finally come out. In some ways I hope it is the last because of my age I don’t know if I will be around for the next one. I recommend this series to everyone and suggest that they listen to instead of reading it.

Old friends

This book is like catching up with old friends. I love Jamie and Claire and all the rest. It’s like I know them. Seeing William grow up and Ian’s life take a turn is most gratifying. That said, the story itself was a bit lackluster. I did, however, love the end and see great potential in the next saga.

Performed with talent

A fan of the series and decided to give the books a go! In this book there are a few rated “R” scenes- but nothing too graphic. Plot & story bumps along sometimes tediously, sometimes progressing the story in forward motion. I enjoyed the Ian love story and character development from William. I very much disliked the Roger & Bri story line in this book unfortunately, This is MY personal opinion of the story. I ENJOYED this book over all. My enjoyment was possible because of the GREAT talent the author possesses. However let’s take a long moment to celebrate the audible Performance!!!! The performance was effortless & engaging. She has a unique talent that I was truly able to appreciate - well done!!

Couldn’t stop listening

This may be my favorite of the entire series! The story was great, the narration as always was beyond fabulous, and I was captivated by everything that was happening - every thread had something interesting (how does she do it)? I can’t wait for the next installment!
