Publisher's summary

Rafe: Handsome, Strong, Protective

Lisa: Beautiful, Funny, Sarcastic

Lisa is a snarky witch using humor to navigate her new 'normal'.

Rafe is an alpha male, growling one moment, then grinning the next as he tries to corral his stubborn, defiant witch.

Lisa has no idea that magic actually exists until she is threatened by a powerful dark fae - and until she meets the alpha of the East Texas wolf pack. Rafe is in charge of guarding the pack's magical pond. And, now, he's in charge of guarding Lisa too.

When a seer from the cougar pride has a vision concerning all shifters, Rafe must ask the light fae to help him protect Lisa and the pond from the menace that threatens them all.

Rafe knows Lisa is his mate. Convincing her is another matter.

Her Wolf Creek series are contemporary romance, paranormal, supernatural/fantasy books about werewolves and alphas, witches, Fae, shifters and shapeshifters, mates, druids and wizards. Evil Fae and Good Fae alike. Oh, and a couple of cougar shifters also! Book 2 adds Druids into the mix...

Do not waste your time or money

This is so juvenile. The writing and narration is choppy and pathetic. Perhaps it was written for a 13 year old.

Story ok bad narration

The male voices were fine. Sounded different among the male characters however the female voices were horrible especially the lead female. Yuck.

Just not my cup of tea

I really wanted to love this book, but there was just too much going on to follow. I like a complex read, but this was all over the place at times. I had to have my full focus on reading to not get lost.

The characters were kind of one dimensional. I wasn't getting a ton from them. I did like Lisa and all her sass. I liked her banter with Rafe, most of the time. For some reason I just wasn't vibing with this one. It happens, not every book connects with every reader.

The fae elements are way too vague. I felt the world building was haphazard, at best. I cannot say I have any understanding of how this shifter and fae world works. There are also major holes in the plot.

Part of my problem may have been that I listened to the audiobook narrated by Jonathan Waters. His read was oddly paced and not happy ears. I listened at every speed setting available, really hoping one would be great, sadly none of them worked out. The women's voices were an issue, big pet peeve with going too high and making them whiny.

Overall, this was disappointing on so many levels. I did finish the book, so it wasn't all bad. I don't think I will be getting the other books in the series, not for me I guess.

Disclosure – I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own. I was under no obligation to post a review or give positive feedback.

*** I hope this review was useful to you and helped your decision to read or not read this book. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed; all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review! Narrator should stick to male characters only

The writing was mediocre. This is definitely young adult not what I would classify as fantasy romance. The narrator has a nice voice, but he should really steer clear of doing female characters. It was painful to listen.

in need of a re-write

Would you try another book from Jo Ellen and/or Jonathan Waters?

Ms Jo Ellen, Please do some research and learn about passive and active voice. Read other books and notice that the reader's interest is held if the author uses dialogue to show the reader what is going on instead of just telling the reader info he or she needs to understand. Notice the use of language and the word choices that make the rhythm of the dialogue believable. not strange or stilted. Consider losing the big sex scene and making this into a YA fantasy lit story. You have some great ideas but your writing style needs work.

How could the performance have been better?

Audible,
I realize that you believe that costs prohibit the use of two narr. for a single book, but there are soooo few narr. who can do both male and female voices that i am losing patience with audible books. I haven't made it through the last 5 books I've purchased because the winy female voices get on my nerves and destroy the listening experience. Please reconsider your stance on the use of 2 narrators for a book.

Enough twists and turns but laugh through the book

This book was just what I needed I would laugh out loud and in the next try to figure out the puzzle of the book. I was never so happy as to be wrong. I look forward to reading more of this author and the narration was fantastic

Good book

It took a little bit for me to get into the book, but the more I read it, the more I wanted to finish it. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.
