Number-one New York Times best-selling author Johanna Lindsey's passionate new tale about a gunfighter running from his past who finds his future when he escorts a beautiful outlaw to her hanging. Featuring one of Lindsey's most intriguing heroes: the dangerous and mysterious Degan Grant from One Heart to Win.
With his work in Montana completed now that the Callahan-Warren feud has ended in marriage rather than bloodshed, Degan Grant sets out for California because it is far away from the home he wants to forget - until the US Marshal who saved his life calls in a favor. All Degan has to do is apprehend three outlaws on the marshal's list and turn them over to the law. Easy enough, he figures, for a man no one wants to tangle with. But then a bold young woman crosses his path.
Maxine grew up so pretty and attracted so much unwanted attention in her Texas hometown that events spiraled out of control. She will try anything to escape the handsome, enigmatic gunfighter who intends to turn her over to a corrupt sheriff who will hang her instead of putting her on trial.
Saddled with a sassy, spirited young woman who insists she is innocent, Degan must hunt down a vicious killer and keep an old enemy at bay. But forced into intimate proximity with his beguiling prisoner, he finds his desire sparking into a wildfire of passion, and he can no longer deny that it is time for them to risk confronting their pasts so he can have a chance at a future with her in his arms forever.

Tell me a story
It amazes me that Johanna Lindsey has written so many books that I have enjoyed. Don't get me wrong there have been a few duds, but on the whole she is an awesome historical romance author! This book was an easy good trip back in time. If books had ratings like movies, this book would be rated PG-13, for sexual situations.
I loved this book. It had a fabulous story line with everything I love in a book. There was adventure, drama, comedy, love, and the best parts, an ornery heroine and sexy alpha hero. The only reason I didn't give Tad a 5 for the narration was that a few of his voices were a "tad" hard to tell apart. (hee-hee!) Overall a great listen!
the narration was HORRIBLE. the man doing the narration spoke like SNL's over emphasis of obama's speech tic of pausing in the middle of a sentence and rushing the words at the end of the sentence. He made the very grown man of Hunter Callahan sound like a 12 year old, complete with the Peter Brady voice changes mid sentence, and was simply a horrid narration. I was so looking forward to this book, but couldn't listen beyond an hour as the narration got worse as the story went on
the really horrible narration that ruined the story
NO WAYYYY, he is a HORRID narrator, and while perhaps he could pull off a Louis Lamour book, he ruins a good romance with his grainy voice, poor inflections, unequal reading speed, and just overall ughness
Put Tad Branson on my list of narrators to never, ever buy.
Anyone considering spending the money on this book should wait until it is redone by a female voice that doesn't add the teenage squeak to male voices. Other Lindsey narrators, like Rosalyn Landor, Laurel Merlington, or Meredith Mitchell were terrific in her other novels. This narrator - ruins the story for you
Johanna Lindsey is hands down my favorite romance author, but as the odd man out, enjoying romance novels as I do, it was awkward having the heroine sounding like a mouthy young man I would just as soon smack the c*** out of. Had I read it in person, I'm sure it would have a typical awesome story. The narrator had the manliness spot on, but I had a hard time warming up to the Maxine, by no fault of her own.
I liked the Western abruptness of the gun fighter, simple, to the point. Just had a hard time placing Maxine as a sensitive, loving woman.
Such a good story. the narrator is amazing, found myself getting lost in his deep voice.
was a fun book with sassy remarks and a great ending. can't wait for my next Johanna lindsey book. totally worth the credit.
This was one of my favorite Johanna Lindsey's books. I will most definitely listen to it again! Narrator was brilliant and the story was gripping - i didn't want it to end. Its one of those stories that takes over your whole life for that period that you're listening to it.
Really enjoyed the characters in this book. Lindsey always develops characters that grow on you. I liked the way the love story unfolded between Max and Deegan. However, as much as I enjoyed the story the ending seemed rushed to me. I felt like the author, once the situation with Max's family was resolved there was no where else to go with the chatacters. Either way a good read.
first book I listened to rather than read. nice narration although I found Max's voice a bit annoying. story was really predictable and not her best work. no climax to speak off really.
