    "UGH!"

This story is so boring. Romantic mystery? Hardly. It's a redundant misfire. I've been listening and listening and no action, nothing developing, barely a plot. The author keeps rehashing what we already know. And the narrator - boy does he need help! - half the time he it sounds like Ely's character is talking baby-talk to Abra. The next he's whining. Whichever he's doing, it's just annoying.
The Abra character, supposedly a strong female character comes off as a controlling nag all in the name of getting Ely healthy and she verges on the point of being bitchy because she doesn't know when to stop.
There might be a decent story under all of the boredom and repetition but I can't find it.
I do like Bluff House and Barbie. I'm not finished with the book yet and if the bad guy ends up poisoning Barbie, I definitely will never listen to another Nora Roberts book again.
I keep waiting for some suspense or excitement but it's just more of the same crap, for lack of a better word.
I read Northern Lights and really enjoyed it so thought I would try her latest. What a bust. I'm pretty sure I won't listen to any more of her books. And for sure won't listen to any with Peter Berkrot as the narrator. One other reviewer noted that he did no accents for Massachusetts natives. Seems like he tried with a couple of characters but failed miserably. All he can do is whiney baby talk. He's just an annoying narrator, no doubt.
I'm only sorry I didn't read the reviews. Sadly I assumed this one would be light, a little romantic, a decent mystery, like Northern Lights. Hardly! It's like the author didn't have enough of a story so she repeated what had happened several times, having the Ely and Abra characters rehash it in detail over and over - for filler - like she need something to fill the pages. And then we get to hear Ely's sad story over and over but I don't care.
I could go on, but I think you get the idea - the story is tedious and we don't really care about the characters except or Barbie. And Bluff House.

    "Kudos!!"

What a wonderful experience. The narrator's voicing was really well done and I fell in love with this author. I hadn't read anything of hers before and this was really a treat. It was so easy to align with the main character and in fact all of the characters.
I highly recommend this, it was truly enjoyable.

I have listened to a great deal of Nora's book.. This is a good listen and keeps you attention to follow the plot. The story line is pretty familiar throughout her books. Definitely more of a romance novel.

What disappointed you about Whiskey Beach?

I really did not like Abra at all. She goes around trying to "fix" or take care of everyone around her whether they want to be fixed or not....and her Mother a Nobel Peace Prize winner??? Let's get real here. It was hard to relate to Abra.

What could Nora Roberts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Almost seems like someone else wrote the book.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Peter Berkrot?

    Rosalyn Landor

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger and boredom. Abra was tedious and a know it all.

    "Abandoned after 20 minutes"
What disappointed you about Whiskey Beach?

The narrators voice was so appallingly bad my flesh crawled. I have never had this reaction to a narrator before. I've also never abandoned a book with NO intention of ever trying to listen again. Just could not get past the smug, effeminate and graceless voice and performance of the narrator.

Would you ever listen to anything by Nora Roberts again?

Of course, provided its a different narrator

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    see comments above

    Any additional comments?

truly a disappointment and a complete waste of a credit.

Don't you wonder sometimes how she thinks these stories up so well. This one was believable and enjoyable. Ms. Roberts can write a page turner. The narrator was good as well.

I am ready for the next NR audio.

    "Another Nora Favorite"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. This is a riveting story of a man trying to prove his innocense and learning to fall in love again. Great story plot!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Whiskey Beach?

When he gave her the emerald, and knowing where it came from.

Have you listened to any of Peter Berkrot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he did a great job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he gave her the dream she wanted.

    Any additional comments?

I thought the story was brilliant and it just always amazes me how Nora come up with these wonderful stories that captures every moment of every word that makes you feel that your part of the story and puts you right there!

    "Enjoyable.."

I enjoyed Whiskey Beach, but the narrator at times was a little confusing with accents. He has quite a deep voice and does not have the ability to change tones, nuances and accents to enable the listener to differentiate between the characters.

The story was good and could have been even better if it had been narrated by a different narrator. Maybe not Nora Robert's best, but still a good read!

    "Nora Roberts does it again!"
Who was your favorite character and why?

I'd have to say that I enjoyed Gran the best. Her independence and spunk is something that I wish I will have at her age.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Peter Berkrot?

This would depend on the type of book he's narrating. In my opinion he's not one for romantic books. It took me a while to get use to his gruff narration. But after 15 minutes I enjoyed it.

    Any additional comments?

This is a typical Nora Roberts book and her usual character plots. Her humor and her touch of mystery are spot on.. Which is why I enjoy reading her books. This is the first time that I listened to one of her books on audio.

    "Disappointing"
What disappointed you about Whiskey Beach?

I just couldn't finish it. It may be a good story, I don't know. I just couldn't listen another minute because of the narration.

Has Whiskey Beach turned you off from other books in this genre?

I love Nora Roberts, but I couldn't stand the narrator's performance.

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Berkrot’s performances?

    No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was sorry I spent a credit on it. I feel I was misled into thinking this would be a good buy.

    Any additional comments?

Please choose your narrators better, maybe Mr. Berkrot would be better in another genre.
