He does have a nice voice.
In When You Dare, we meet the titular male MC, Dare, just after all the action has happened. He rescues Molly at the tail end of a rescue mission for his buddy's sister, and then LITERALLY NOTHING HAPPENS until the end of the book. And it's a loooooooong book.
Oh, goodness. I nabbed this title because it was only $4.95 on Audible and was 14+ hours long. Given how I've been blowing through audiobooks at a ridiculous pace of late, it seemed like a good deal. However, it turned into a total hate read, as in I only kept listening to find out just how much worse it could get.
(Also to find out how many more times Dare would mention his boner. Seriously, are we twelve??)
I normally love romantic suspense, having been a dedicated reader since the seventh grade. That's why it's so disappointing to see the SUPER SECRET BIG PLOT TWIST coming a mile away! The red herrings were fairly lame in this story. For such a chunkster of a book, those plotlines were left oddly unrealized. I also felt that the sub-plot regarding Molly's creepy hater/fan and all of the rather pointed comments Molly makes about readers were a bit of a statement on Foster's part. It makes me wonder if Foster gets horrible fan mail in real life.
There really isn't much to review here. Dare and Molly are one-dimensional stereotypes who fall in rather inappropriate insta-love and solve a mystery in something like three days while surrounded with even flatter one-dimensional, stereotypical supporting characters. End of story.
I love the Characters in this book! There's actually a plot and the way it's written pulls you into the story. Now, the Narrator, Jim Frangione, is perfect in this. He has a certain voice that pulls you. I really can't explain the draw he has in his voice. Just know I like to hear it especially when it comes to Alpha males. Great job. Audible, don't change Mr. Frangione as the narrator in Lori Foster books. That would really be a mistake.
Tell us about yourself!
OMG, Lori has so much class in her writing! This book had me mesmerised right from the beginning. Dare... what an amazing man. I think he's every woman's dream. This story is so well written that you become fully engaged to fantasise about its characters from the first couple of paragraphs. Action packed, suspenseful, heart-racingly sexy and just so blooming amazing. There are no flaws in the way Lori brings these characters to life, in the way she moulds them into people you wish you knew in real life because you actually fall in love with them. Hands down she is one of my most favourite authors now that I have found her. This book is a fantastic temptation to continue the series knowing full well that each book is going to be just as good if not better than the first. I should know I've read them all. Please don't give this one a miss. If you like well-structured stories with amazing alpha hunks and witty, quirky, intelligent women with an engaging foundation of mystery to solve, together with the anticipation of smexy love scenes, then this book is for you. You will laugh, you may cry, I did, you'll be thoroughly entertained and at the end you will be hungry for more.
If you are lucky enough to have the Audible version too I fully endorse it. Jim Frangione is off the charts and the perfect choice to pull it off to perfection. He brings out the strong brooding male persona whilst expertly delivering the female voices so you forget it's a male narrator! The humour, let’s not forget the humour. Lori has a great sense of humour and that comes out clearly in her books. Jim's bedroom voice most definitely won me over. Now I'm ready to listen to "Trace of Fever" again. I'm just as excited as I was the first time I read it. It’s a real gem! This story is about Molly, who is Natalie’s sister, whom we met in READY, SET, JETT and she and Jett make an appearance in this book. We finally find out what happened to Molly and… as you know, no spoilers from me but I will tell you that it’s awful and amazing and we get to meet DARE… ahhh, Dare, there are no words, only Lori’s to describe what a man he is, so I guess you really will have to read it if you don’t want to miss out on an amazing book. I love it!
Yes, I liked this story very much. I actually have this book on my Nook and read it a year ago or so. I like to listen to books when I am cleaning my house or doing laundry.
Chris, he is a very good character I hope that he gets his happy ending too.
I liked how Frangione read the story and how he did the different characters. The big problem I had with this book was the pauses between chapters. They were so long that I often looked down at my phone to see if the book had turned off for some reason.
Dare! I loved his character and Jim did a great job portraying him to the listeners.
yes. I hated every time I had to stop listening and i couldn't wait to start listening again.
Another great book by Lori Foster!!
Nurse, mom, loved to read....but now I love to listen. When I retire I hope to hear waves crashing in 1 ear and audible in the other!
I wish there was an order to listen to these books, I listened to this one last and I think it was the first...
He did a pretty good job, he sounds like a parent to me when he speaks to the women in his male character....
It's been in my wish list forever and it was time to finish them off, now I see a new title in the mix..the bartender.
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
I loved this book. The action and romance was very well mixed. I loved Dare, Lori and Chris pus being such a dog person was so happy to have the Girls in this story. Dare was the perfect man. Very Strong, Big and protective. Perfect in every way. Just how i like them. Jim Frangione voice is sexy. I can see everyone's appeal to him. He done a great job narrating. I'm on to look at the next book in this series. :)
I have read a lot of reviews of the narrator of this novel, and some people find him wonderful. I find him to be passable. Of course, I wasn't impressed with the story line of the novel, so his ability to turn it into something special may be due to the lack of material. I found the story predictable and barely worth my time to finish.
Better things to do but this is more fun.
Liked it enough to finish it, not sure I'd listen to another by this author with this reader. The plot and the characters were good but the story felt dated - not sure why but think it may be the reader? I couldn't put my finger on why except his reading didn't have any urgency or maybe he couldn't give me a sense of the female characters.
I liked how Dare was protective; he explains it as being protective of everyone (not just Molly) by saying it's everyone younger, smaller, older, etc. I also liked his love for and loyalty to his best friend Chris.
Dare and Molly's chemistry could use a little more urgency or heat. I liked the love scenes, didn't love them. They didn't make me sweat.
I really enjoyed this book, and will read/listen to more from Lori Foster. In most romance stories, the plot is completely secondary and usually pretty weak. Here, Ms. Foster was able to develop equal parts romance:thriller and they competed nicely. The narrator did a great job with the text, and was able to maintain the appropriate pace/rhythm so as not to distract. Well done!!!
