Publisher's Summary

Miss Linnet Berry Thrynne is a Beauty... Naturally, she's betrothed to a Beast.

Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, lives in a castle in Wales where, it is rumored, his bad temper flays everyone he crosses. And rumor also has it that a wound has left the earl immune to the charms of any woman.

Linnet is not just any woman.

She is more than merely lovely: her wit and charm brought a prince to his knees. She estimates the earl will fall madly in love - in just two weeks.

She is more than merely lovely: her wit and charm brought a prince to his knees. She estimates the earl will fall madly in love - in just two weeks.

If she decides to be very wicked indeed... what price will she pay for taming his wild heart?

"Dr. House Does the Regency Period"

My first by the author. Very entertaining and a bit on the light side, although it was very witty. There were a few angsty parts and quite a bit about facing the fact that parents are flawed humans like everyone else and you either have to live your life angry and bitter or accept them and let it go.

My assumption about the hero being inspired by Dr. House was fair. The author actually mentioned at the end that the TV show was her primary inspiration even more so than the fairytale. Piers was a doctor who definitely had the snarky, living in pain, and inappropriately funny part of it down. He was his own character, however. For one thing he fought desperately NOT to depend on drugs or alcohol for his pain, but feared due to family history and the unrelenting pain that he may end up becoming an opiate addict at some point anyway. He was very afraid to marry and have children because of the nightmare his father, the Duke, put he and his mother through due to his opium addiction. I don't think this is a spoiler, because it seemed obvious to me -- but I'll put it behind a tag anyway. (view spoiler)

The Earl/Doctor can be a real ass, which shouldn't be a surprise. Linnet mostly puts him in his place and gives as good as she gets. She's no doormat by any stretch of the imagination.

If you're very bothered by anachronisms, there are certainly some here. Some of the phrases used, in particular, seemed very out of place in a Regency. i.e. "What happens in Wales, stays in Wales." Also, and this is very YMMV, I like the hero to have to convince the heroine he loves her even though he's acted like a complete jackass. Linett has his number, so his revelation is not surprising to her. Although his actions in the end do show his unconditional, deep love for her. I definitely won't spoil that part.

Re: the audio, Susan Duerden was excellent as always.

    "Enchanting romance"

I really enjoyed my 2nd listen to this one. Beauty is a lovely young lady who finds herself suddenly ruined because of a poorly designed ball gown. The beast, well he has to be experienced. Unlike many other books of this type, both of the characters in this one have no difficulty speaking their minds, but the conversations between them never become strident or cliche.

Very enjoyable, and Susan Duerden does a great job.

    "Awesome book and narrator.."
    Any additional comments?

I loved every word of this book. Loved Piers and Linnet and hated to see the story end. Loved Prufrock, best butler ever. Loved Doctors Kibbles and Bitts, that was too funny. Loved Sebastien. Loved the story reguarding his parents and how that all worked out. I simply loved the entire story. It was sad, happy, intense, everything you'd want in a fairy tale. AND the sex was just beautiful and didn't overwhelm the storyline. I would recommend this book to all romance readers.

As to the narrator: Ms. Duerden did a perfect job! I couldn't have asked for a better narrator for this book. Every voice was perfect and individual. You always knew who was talking and THAT makes for great narration. IMO..

I would also like to say that the description tells us what the book is about or we can zip over to Amazon and look at reviews. This is AUDIBLE! What we need to review is the narrator. Does he or she suck? Why? Is he or she too nasal-y, too sweet for the kind of book he or she is reading, to gruff, too bland, too robotic, lacks emotion. Is he or she doing nothing but reading the book? Not changing his or her voice for the male and female voices? Is the narrator sounding the same whether she or he is reading a whisper spoken?
Most of us on AUDIBLE don't really care what the book is about. We want to know about the narrator! This is AUDIBLE, after all.

This is one of my favorite audio books I've listened to so far definitely in my top 10.

What about Susan Duerden’s performance did you like?

Susan Duerden is a wonderfully gifted reader, I think she could make and instruction manual sound brilliant! So when you pair her with a cleaver and witty author you have a winner!

"Well done by author and narrator"
What did you love best about When Beauty Tamed the Beast?

I loved the book. I am generally an Eloisa James fan, but sometimes she seems a bit off, mechanical. This was spot on.

What was one of the most memorable moments of When Beauty Tamed the Beast?

The interactions between Beauty and Beast were always significant.

    Which scene was your favorite?

To be repetitious, any scene between B&B.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The chicken coop scenes were very impactful.

    Any additional comments?

Well done all around. While I listened at every opportunity, I didn't want it to end.

"I could not stop listening, this book was amazing!"
Would you listen to When Beauty Tamed the Beast again? Why?

Absolutely. From the stellar narration to the witty banter to the heartbreaking ending, the book was one of the few this year that stands out for me. Definitely will re-listen

Who was your favorite character and why?

Linnet of course, she was beautiful, charming, witty and sarcastic, she gave as good as she got but is kindhearted as well. I loved the heroine that was able to love the hero despite his foul character at first:)

Which character – as performed by Susan Duerden – was your favorite?

Hands down Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, she did marvelous job with his voice, I was amazed that a woman narrator can interpret someone so well, she made him come alive. Excellent job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Linnet got sick and was all alone
