Great!

It was a great story, I enjoyed Listen to it, could not listen to it fast enough! The narration was very well done, made the story come to live, a good narration is very important to do the book justice. At first I was reluctant because it was a masculine voice but it did not take to long to win me over! Well done Mr. Brenher.

Happy to be among the Cynsters again!!

I've read all of the Stephanie Laurens??? world stories, and I can see how the whole group, Cynster???s, Black Cobra, Bastion Club and Adair's characters are growing, in this first book of the trilogy the strong willed and full of pride is the talent and the obstacle for love, the psychological process of coming to terms is very well described. I wish it didn't have to take a near death experience to see what really matters. I can???t wait for the next two books of the trilogy. I miss Simon Prebble simply because I became attached to those voices and he was very consistent through the different books, but Mathew Brenher did a great job, I don't think Richard (Scandal) should have such a Scottish accent since he is English, but the pacing and intensity was very well performed.

Not Her Best

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book really dragged in some places. I totally tuned out for 10-20 minutes in some parts and didn't seem to miss anything.

Would you be willing to try another one of Matthew Brenher’s performances?

I was disappointed in Mr. Brenher's performance. He kept pronouncing Catriona's name as Katrina. He also gave Richard a Scottish accent even though he's an Englishman.

Agree with the other reviewers

I also agree that this reader was a disappointment. Richard Cynster never should’ve had a Scottish accent, and a rather feckless one at that. The plot was slow, you could fast forward or speed it up through the first three hours and not miss a whole lot. I’ve read a lot of Stephanie Laurens’ books, and would like to see a new theme other than the man trying to persuade a woman to marry him using sex, and resisting till the bitter end to admit that he loves her.

Same old basic Stepahnie Laurens story

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, I'd like to see if Stephanie Laurens could develop a different "path to love.". Every single book my Ms. Laurens is about an independent woman and a man who thinks the way to her heart is through passion. Come on, can't she come up with something a little different? Every book, even the Novellas, discusses at length the man's "primal tendencies" and "need to protect" which inevititably the woman doesn't want. She wants to be a partner and loved. I say blah, blah, blah to this story line.

Would you be willing to try another book from Stephanie Laurens? Why or why not?

I guess I'll end up listening to the other two books in this series because I've purchased them and might as well listen to them, but these will be my last.

What three words best describe Matthew Brenher’s voice?

Matthew Brenher is okay. I didn't like that he gave Richard Cynstar a slight Scottish brogue and that he did not pronounce some names correctly or at least as I'm used to hearing them, but overall it wasn't a bad performance.

Any additional comments?

I am pretty sure that these will be the last books I ever read or listen to by Ms. Laurens unless I see reviews that the male dominating and resistant female roles aren't the basis for the whole story. I have read and listened to a lot of books by other authors and mostly books in series and the authors can always come up with a different way/reason for people to fall in love, but not this author. The story changes, but the path to love NEVER does.

BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE NARRATOR!!!

Any additional comments?

Thank you for switching narrators...I like Simon Prebble for some things, however, when he does voices that are supposed to be 25 - 35 years old...he sounds like he's 70. And the worst....the very worst is when he is narrating the love scenes....he yells louder and louder as it goes on and he sounds like he's calling a horse race!! It was a pleasure to be able to hear the love scene rather than wincing at it!!

Talented Author, entertaining

thank you for the quality of storyteller and for presenting such a great story, I will definitely look for more books by this author and also read by this presenter. Not raced, storyline good twists, all prepared to detest the villian ... damn, he's not unlikable! Really glad I downloaded it.

Simon Prebble - come back!!

I'm probably spoiled by the inflections that Mr Prebble has provided in the past. Mr Brenher has a voice that was very easy to listen to, and his characters were easily identifiable. It just wasn't what I was used to for a Cynster novel. I found myself tuning out, not keeping up with the changes in the story. I missed the enthusiasm that Mr. Prebble provided in the past. I will buy the next in the series as I enjoy the stories and listen during my housework and yard work. Change Happens, but I'll miss Simon Prebble if he doesn't return. Mr Brehner is a good narrator and made a good attempt at filling Mr Prebble's shoes; I hope to hear him narrate other novels in the future (just not Cynster novels).
