Lovely English time travel

So enjoyable. Brit to the core. I figured out the grey lady - after a bit. The other surprise was lovely. Thank you :)

Great book

Any additional comments?

This book was fun to listen to, traveling back and forth between different time periods. I would recommend this book for a light, fun listen.

Beautiful

This is a wondrous story with mystery and love at the center. It is narrated by the loveliest of voices. A perfect performance! The two put together is truly something beautiful.

Cornish Time-Travel, Slow But Sumptuous

After The Winter Sea i was eager to hear another audiobook of Susanna Kearsley, so after reading all the reviews, chose The Rose Garden. For me, the narration of an audio book is very important, and while i did appreciate Nicola Barber's performance, it did not bring the book to life vividly as did Rosalyn Landor's narration of The Winter Sea; Nicola does tend to whisper her way through the book. Also the Rose Garden moved slowly for me. Had i not read The Winter Sea, i may have given up halfway through, but i stuck it out and the last 1/4 of the book is where the story really began to get interesting. Also had difficulty believing that Eva's appearance in the same place in Cornwall three hundred years earlier was taken so nonchalant; the time-travel shift in The Winter Sea seemed more realistic. However, the romance is sweet and innocent and, all told, it's a lovely book that i will re-read!

Enjoyable story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Rose Garden to be better than the print version?

I don't know because I did not read the print version

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Rose Garden?

When Fergle warmed up to Eva and took her under his wing

What does Nicola Barber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her narration really brings the characters to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

Eva is Canadian yet the narrator reads her with an English accent, which disappears when Eve is speaking. That was a little odd to me.

Great Story, loved it.

Where does The Rose Garden rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the top of my list

Any additional comments?

The story had my interest from beginning to end. This was my first book from this author, and I went to The Winter Sea right after and was equally delighted.

Not Her best work

Liked the story but not as good as previous books I have listened to. The Cornish accent was a cross between Irish, Birmingham and Manchester, not s drop of a West Country accent. That spoiled it for me. Please Nicola stick to books that don't require accents.

Wonderful story, great narration

Where does The Rose Garden rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I liked this much more than The Winter Sea. Partly because the narrator was so much better and partly because I liked the main character much more in this book. Very enjoyable listen while doing housework. As others have mentioned, it is not a sweeping, detailed story like Outlander but I think many Gabaldon fans will appreciate Kearsley's books.
