Emotionally satisfying read!

Typical period drama, but with a haunting sweetness. Quite special and her best book yet.

Delightful English Romance with a Twist

The English romance between Anna Wren & Edward Swartingham develops slowly at first. Much like many within the genre, the characters question themselves and make every effort to combat their feelings. What sets Hoyt's "The Raven Prince" apart is how/where they get together. Anna's jealousy over Edward's plans to satiate himself, leads her to take advantage of a unique opportunity. Risks be damned! The trysts in London were no doubt very entertaining to read. Once the jig is up, Edward is determined they should marry, but Anna is not in agreement. A couple of evil characters hatch an extortion scheme which definitely adds color/flavor to the narrative.

Moira Quirk does a good job narrating though she doesn't distinguish the many characters outside of Anna & Edward consistently.

Naughty and nice with a dash of spice

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story is interesting. I have love hate relationship with the book, parts of it I loved but others were to explicit for me, but having said that I am glad I gave it a chance. This is my first Elizabeth Hoyt and it won' be the last

👎🏼 Thumbs down for me

This was not a dreadful story, however it absolutely did nothing to engage me. I tried almost halfway. But at the point where I tried to speed it up to 1.25 , I realized that I should go ahead and return it. I didn't hate it, it just felt like I was wasting my time. When I listen to a book I like to be excited turn on Audible, not dread it and hope I can hurry up and get it over with. Even though the book wasn't awful, like I said that's how I felt.

for me, the narrator made it

The snippets of fiction at the beginning of chapters is, to me, weird. Not complaining, just saying... However, I don't think I've enjoyed a narrator more than Ms Quirk. The story is well done, but repetitive in little ways--I think it was six times in the book that the hero lifted the heroine (and once a secondary female character) seemingly effortlessly. We got it, you're showing us that he is strong. Showing rather than telling is part of good writing, however, twice drives the point home, more than that gives me to understand that the author thinks her readers have poor memories or she, herself, forgets what she's written or perhaps just is over-invested in her hero.

That having been said, I enjoyed the Raven Prince. I failed to find it particularly witty, but it had charm and, while not historically accurate in speech or setting, it is done well enough not to overly jar this reader's senses.

And the author has a very good grasp of grammar. Only once was I jarred from the story with a grammar "huh?', but turns out it was correctly written. So she wins a HUGE number of points from me for that. Especially in the oral form when an error is so jarring on both halves of the brain.

So, to sum up, the narrator reads as though she is actually invested in the story without going over the top and without sounding bored or emitting the verbal equivalent of an eye roll. The author does a creditable job of telling a story (foreshadowing by the chapter introductions notwithstanding) and if you like the genre and are looking for something that might hold your interest for a long car ride, this just might be what you're looking for. Certainly far better than a lot
of the swill out there. And as always, YMMV.

Prepare to Go Without Sleep!

This well written story kept my rapt attention from beginning to end. I couldn't turn it off.

Moira Quirk gave an excellent performance---transporting the listener into the English country side where you could almost smell the roses.

The sexual scenes are a little more explicit than I care for, but are an integral part of the story, not like some books where they seem to be thrown in to take up space.

I recommend it to all Romance lovers!

Nicely done

This book is an erotic historic romance novel.

Gotta say that I am not much of a historian reader, and the lingo throws me off a bit. BUT this was cute, romantic and funny. I have to admit I chuckled a few times.

Widowed Anna Wren is about to have her world turned around. The man she was married to has left her with questions, barren and her past is going to come at her in full force.

The Earl of Swartingham needs a secretary and society only allows men to fill the position. He has a hard time getting anyone to understand his reasoning to demanding. His position doesn't allow him to falter until he meets his new employee.

Finally, an audiobook that was worth the credit!

Do you know when you hit a streak of great audio books and then nothing? I was desperate to find something light but good. I was flipping between Goodreads and Audible to find a gem like this one. Right now I have Dune by Frank Herbert and The Fellowship of the Ring on my mobile. But, I have to have a blend of audio lite and audio dense. I look forward to spending another credit on this author.

Wonderful!!!

This is my first book of EH and I must say I only downloaded the book cause of the narrator. I do love historical romances, so that was an added bonus. I must say I couldn't get enough of Moira Quirk's voice. The story I must say was a bit confusing at the beginning of each chapter but after two chapters I figured it was a reading from the little red book in the Earl's library. The characters are not flat and EH makes you feel for them.
They have lots of passion and drive.
worth a credit..
