Publisher's summary

In the resplendence of William the Conqueror's London court, the lovely Saxon captive, Nicholaa, was forced to choose a husband from the assembled Norman nobles. She chose Royce, a baron warrior whose fierce demeanor could not conceal his chivalrous and tender heart. Resourceful, rebellious and utterly naive, Nicholaa vowed to bend Royce to her will, despite the whirlwind of feelings he aroused in her. Ferocious in battle, seasoned in passion, Royce was surprised by the depth of his emotion whenever he caressed his charming bride.

In a climate of utmost treachery, where Saxons still intrigued against their Norman invaders, Royce and Nicholaa revelled in their precious new love...a fervent bond soon to be disrupted by the call of blood, kin, and country!

this is a good one

If you love Garwood, this one wins. Flosnik is OK, Angela Dawe would be a good choice for future reads.

Not bad but not the best

A typical Garwood historical . Enjoyable but not breathe-taking . Ann Flosnik is a good narrator but her male voice in some of the books like this is soooooooo thick and villainous , it's so irritating !!!!

Pathetic heroin makes it less than a great book

I like Garwood's work. She writes technically correct books that usually are really entertaining. That said, The Prize does not sit high on my list.
I found Nicolas to be insecure and demanding to a point of being pathetic. She just wasn't a strong mate for Royce and made him look shabby.
I would not recommend this as one of Garwood"s books that need to be in your library. There are plenty of her other books that deserve that position.

Could use a little more of a story line

The book was good and the narrator was fab. as always, but, I wish there was more of a story line as the other Garwood novels. Her history was well done and her decriptions were great but I wish there was a little more twist and turns as in previous reads. It was kind of predictable. I wouldnt of missed the book because Garwood and Flosnik are 2 of my favorites but with as long as it was there could of been more to the book. Still worth getting and a decent price.

Pretty good

Not at the literary level that I expect from Julie. There was just too much “training” of the female character. In reality the character development was excessive in both main characters. There were some tedious parts that I was hoping for the end of the story. However, the story did end on a high note but left a number of loose ends. Could probably do a couple of sequels from this story but hopefully with much improved quality.

Read for the 4th time!

This book is another wonderful story by Julie Garwood. I simply get lost within the chapters as the main characters are intertwined with each other, emotions are always high and change from moment to moment. Regardless if the emotion is anger, love, jealousy, or revenge, it is displayed with humor and honesty. I will continue to read these books, enjoying each chapter.

Another great book

Julie Garwood pens books in such a way that reader can easily follow. This audible version is exception. The narrator remains true to character and doesn’t confuse the voices. It’s truly one of my favorite books.
