Publisher's summary

In the resplendence of William the Conqueror's London court, the lovely Saxon captive, Nicholaa, was forced to choose a husband from the assembled Norman nobles. She chose Royce, a baron warrior whose fierce demeanor could not conceal his chivalrous and tender heart. Resourceful, rebellious and utterly naive, Nicholaa vowed to bend Royce to her will, despite the whirlwind of feelings he aroused in her. Ferocious in battle, seasoned in passion, Royce was surprised by the depth of his emotion whenever he caressed his charming bride.

In a climate of utmost treachery, where Saxons still intrigued against their Norman invaders, Royce and Nicholaa revelled in their precious new love...a fervent bond soon to be disrupted by the call of blood, kin, and country!

Love the book. Hated hero's voice.

Plot and characters r great, but hero's voice didn't fit at all. Worth reading though!

Narration

Narration is terrible. Sounds as if she's reading a horror novel. Makes it difficult to pay attention to the actual storyline.

The Prize is a Julie Garwood Classic

I have now listened to this book three times, & I'm still not bored with it. The antics that take place between Nicholaa and Royce are both funny and heart-warming. Nicholaa is an undisputed heroine in this book. And Royce ends up being the bear that's really just a teddy bear :)

As some other readers have said about this book, and Garwood's other historical romance novels on Audible, the narration done by Anne Flosnik is a little over-the-top. But at the same time, let's be honest. This is a romance novel. Flosnik's narration simply highlights the inevitable cheesiness of the genre. I don't think it takes away from the book, or makes it any less enjoyable.

In my opinion, The Prize is a must-have!

Lovely Story. Voice Actor can’t do male voices

I loved this story so much. I have read this book several times. So I was excited to get the audio book. I couldn’t wait to hear the characters voices come to life. I was so very disappointed with the voice actor. She gave Royce, main male character, only one emotion. I get he was supposed to be strong and gruff. But this voice actor never gave him any emotion or different tone in this character’s voice. Note to the voice actor, Julie Garwood gives her male characters a sense of humor. They do not sound rude or angry all the time.

Good story, Bad narrator

I love Julie Garwood's books and when narrated by Rosalyn Landor, they audio book is great. This narrator, Anne Flosnik, is ruining the story. The voices she uses are aweful and her sing-song rhythm is annoying.

Another great story by Garwood!

It's always a pleasure listening to Julie's books. She always has strong characters, a great romance and a wonderful plot. This book didn't disappoint.

Did not like the narrator

I have read this book numerous times and loved the story. I felt the narrator really shouldn’t have narrated for this book. The heroine came across as whinny and not quite intelligent. She seemed bossy, ancient and unlikable. Her husband seemed weak willed and as if she bullied him, and all because of the narration. When reading the book myself, the hero (Royce) was very masculine. The heroine (Nickola) was feminine but clever. That didn’t come across when this narrator read the story. I’ll probably just stick to rereading the book rather than listen to this narration.
