Publisher's summary

The historic hotel in Boonsboro has endured war and peace, the changing of hands, and even rumored hauntings. Now it’s getting a major face-lift from the Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother. As the architect in the family, Beckett’s social life consists mostly of talking shop over pizza and beer. But there’s another project he’s got his eye on: the girl he’s been waiting to kiss since he was sixteen.

After losing her husband and returning to her hometown, Clare Brewster soon settles into her life as the mother of three young sons while running the town’s bookstore. Though busy and with little time for romance, Clare is drawn across the street by Beckett’s transformation of the old inn, wanting to take a closer look… at both the building and the man behind it.

With the grand opening inching closer, Beckett is happy to give Clare a private tour - one room at a time, in between blueprint meetings and kindergarten pickups. It’s no first date, but these stolen moments are the beginning of something that could arouse the secret yearning that resides in Clare’s independent heart - and open the door to the extraordinary adventure of what comes next....

The book that made me a NR fan

This book got me to downloading the entire series. I was never really into romance novels, but theres something about these characters, the writing of the book, the way the narrator told the story that made me into an audible addict. Yes, i agree with some that it was a slow start, but as i got into knowing the characters, i started listening to this on my commute to and from work as well as on my days off from work. MacLeod Andrews does a pretty good job changing up the voices and like all male narraters, he makes the females sound a little off, but hey you cant make all the different character voices perfect in an audio book. I am glad that they used the same narrater for the entire series.
As for the book, this is Clare's story and how she fell in love with Beckett. As for all series, you get introduced to everyone whos important in the series: Clare, her kids, Beckett, the Montgomery brothers, Justine, Hope and Avery. It also has a small side story line about a ghost and the Inn they are building. The ghost is kind of like a matchmaker cause shes the one who pushes the Montgomery brothers to think about the women in their lives. Anyway, its a nice listen while you are just laying back and relaxing. Hope you enjoy it like i did.

good story bad voices

MacLeod who talked in the book sucked at voices for females and children. Otherwise great book and funny too.

Don't let the the "kid voice" turn you off

The story is cute. I thought the ghost element was going to annoy me but it wasn't over the top. The narrator's 'kid voice' was horrible and like nails on a chalkboard but if you can get past that, it's good.

Great book/darling kids & love story!

The only problem w/the narration was he wasn't very good at women's voices, & I almost did an exchange just 4 that. I'm glad I stuck it out because it was a really delightful book & the narrator did THE BEST little boy voices that'll touch your heart & make you giggle! Some sex & cussing 4 those who prefer none. But overall, I fully enjoyed this author I've listened to before. This is 1 of 3 & I look forward to the next 2.

good but not best

I wanted more!
Story built so enticingly, then suddenly .....
I wondered, not usual for this lovely author, did I get the abridged? Or must have reached the max words permitted
