To save her family home, impulsive bookstore owner Alexa Maria McKenzie casts a love spell. But she never planned on conjuring up her best friend's older brother - the powerful man who once shattered her heart.
Billionaire Nicholas Ryan doesn't believe in marriage, but in order to inherit his father's corporation, he needs a wife and needs one fast. When he discovers his sister's childhood friend is in dire financial straits, he offers Alexa a bold proposition: a marriage in name only with certain rules. Avoid entanglement. Keep things all business. Do not fall in love. The arrangement is only for a year, so the rules shouldn't be that hard to follow, right? Except fate has a way of upsetting the best-laid plans.

"Full of nonstop sexual tension that crackles off the page." (Laura Kaye, author of Hearts in Darkness)
The lead female character in this is spunky.... but that is about it. Not worth $24... or a credit. The reviews I read raved it was fun, funny and witty. It is a little, but not a lot. I have been an audible customer for over 5 years...and this is the first review I have posted. I'm doing so because the reviews overstated the quality of the book.
The reader and the story were very disappointing. The reader was too breathy and made the characters sound ridiculous. I found the character development very poor to the point where each person seemed like hollow tree stumps.
There are much better romance novels out there.
No...just did not get sucked in...
I don't really know...it just missed the special something that makes me want to go in that book's "world".
She made it so the words were not so much "lost in translation".
I wasn't sure about this book after reading 50 shades; but i was pleasantly surprized. It was cute & fun
Yes, it has a interesting twist .. Or two.
The poem reading near the end.
Loved the the last scene!
I did not like the narrator for this book. She just read it toooooo fast without any emotion. I had to quit listening and just read the book. Please redo with a better narrator or have her slow it down and put some emotion into the read.
A lot. Read toooo fast and also no emotions.
Loved the book but not the narrator.
This book reminded me of "Fifty Shades of Grey" the only difference is that it didn't have that many erotic scenes in it. But it was dam good... I just love these kinds of books.
They Were all my favorite because with out them all playing a role this story wouldn't be a good one... SO ALL WERE MY FAVORITE.
At first I had to get used to her voice because I was used to another narrators voice, but when the story went on she did a wonderful job. She differentiated all of the charactors!
it did make me laugh at some points but it didn't make me cry.....
THIS BOOK IS A GOOD BOOK, IF YOU LIKE ROMANCE WITH A LITTLE OF EROTIC PLEASURE THEN THIS IS A GOOD BOOK TO READ.
OK, first of all I'm not usually hard on books. But I just have to review this one.
I bought it because: a) nice romantic cover
b) plot with potential
c) 3 to 4 stars
d) I like fun chick lit. (M. Jhonson, S. Manning, M. Harper. S. Kinsella etc).
What I've got was an impossible cliche story, with totally unreal characters, with not only words but sentences repeated throughout the book, and scenes that intended to be funny and only left me with an odd feeling of shame for someone else....Many times I though of not finishing but did it because I wanted to be fair and maybe later on it would get better but it never did.
The narrator is ok, her voice is clear, nice, and almost always does the different voices, The performance itself is not good but then again, she doesn't have a great material to work with.
Love to read and I am really enjoying audible. Fantasy and sci fi are my faves but I also enjoy period novels and historical fiction.
The main characters were annoying and argumentative. They lie and manipulate each other and then get angry because they each buy into the lies. Example the lie about what Alexa wanted the money for. She tells him she has "selfish" motives for the money instead of helping her family because she is afraid if he knows the real reason he will think more highly of her. So she convinced him she is selfish and then gets angry with him for thinking she is a selfish person
The narrator is a terrible over actor and I found her difficult to listen to. I didn't enjoy her at all. She could act on Disney nick Jr.
Not sure what the the other reviewers thought was so great about this book
Great Books Don't Promote Violence
Last week, I started listening to the Marriage Bargain and quickly lost interest. I can't even remember enough to describe the plot - guess that says it all.
