I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!

    Story
    "Could Have Been Great!"

What I liked: I loved the premise of this story--unique and fun. Liked the hero. The author writes well, smooth and a good way with dialogue.

What I didn't like: Holy moly, can we just get to the story? For a 7 hour 47 minute book this background stuff took over 2 hours - boring. The beginning consisted of a few lines of action and dialogue and then chapters of background information about the hero and his people. I felt like I was reading a sci fi encyclopedia.

The same thing with the heroine. We finally meet her over 10% of the way into the story, get one brief half page of present day and then bam! into her past.

And that's where I almost gave it up. I hope the author will continue to use her great imagination and writing skills, then cut out all unnecessary stuff. There only 2 actual sex scenes in the whole book that were not very well written. Overall too much repeat information and not enough action spoiled the book for me.

The narrator was great with the delivery of the story.

    Story
    "Disappointing, annoying and poorly written."

What an annoying book with basically no dialogue either. First of all this guy is from a different planet its called SR44 and I am here to tell you, you will NEVER forget that when reading this book. I actually did a word search for SR44 and on my kindle and got 116 hits. I swear I wanted to scream after a while when the narrator said SR44. The other annoying part is there was no dialogue to speak of.

The disappointing part is that you would think that a being from another planet would have some special powers, right? Wrong he did not. Basically the special power was that these warriors took the form of big hot hunky guys. Okay.. its a book they are always big hot and hunky. (before I get slammed for my review one of the warriors was a healer and one could see ghosts if they are in limbo) That's about it for special powers.. The hero in this book had zero powers or abilities. The other planet they were from didn't seem to be anything special from the descriptions.

Oh not to mention he had a wife on planet SR44 but never told Abby and of course at the HEA they married on earth. So he ends up with 2 wives, and yeah Abby still doesn't know.

Oh there's more... How was it up to Noah (our hero) to get Abby (our heroine) out of death limbo? We will never know the chapter ended and it was 2 weeks later. Which also happened quite often. 2 days later, 3 days later, 2 weeks later, 3 weeks later.... so much past tense writing.

I think this book was poorly written with no thoughts to bring it together. The concept could have been a great starting point to a great series but is ruined by poor writing.

Narration was pretty good but I did have to listen to it on 1.25 speed.

Credit worthy? NO not at all, save your credits time and money. Glad this book was free on amazon kindle and only 1.99 on audible.

I don't normally write such long reviews. But this one I just couldn't let go without explanation.

    "Love the Six Saviors Series!!!!"
Would you listen to The Light Within Me again? Why?

I would listen to this story again and want to be able to hear all of the series on audiobooks.com. I love being able to listen to it anywhere I am and especially while I am in the car or not able to read a book. Would suggest the audiobook for anyone that wants to sit back and relax and hear a great story!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really liked all of them.

What does Kevin Scollin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You can hear the emotion and passion when you listen to Mr. Scollin tell the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes it was.

    Any additional comments?

Abby is a crime reporter for a Reno newspaper. After her mother was killed when she was only ten, she struggled to find her own identity as a person. Her life is mundane and boring, and although she craves more, she cannot quite put her finger on why she feels so different from other people. She can't quite figure out what to do to shake up the monotony that is her life.
Noah, one of six warriors from the SR44 alien race, has come to earth in a human body on a mission. Several criminals from his planet have escaped to earth and now live among humans, murdering and wreaking havoc whenever and wherever they can. The mission of the Six Saviors is simple, take out all of the alien criminals and their half-human, evil offspring, before they can return back to their home planet. Hundreds of years later, Noah and his five companions are still on earth, hunting down their foes. Many of them have lost hope of ever going home, some still hold out hope that their mission will be completed and that they will once again return to their former lives.

When Abby contacts Noah, who poses as a criminal profiler in order to gain access to crime scenes, for an interview for the paper, the two meet and their worlds collide. Noah, who knows he will lose his immortality and the SR44 form within his human body if he succumbs to love, does his best to fight his feelings for Abby, but to no avail. He faces the decision between continuing on his path of vengeance and completing his mission, or giving it all up for love.
When it becomes clear that one of the criminals from his planet is targeting Abby, Noah will protect her at all costs.

This is a wonderful romance with hot love scenes and a unique story that keeps your interest till the very end. I can't wait for the other 5 books to be released :)

    Story
    "Cheap knock off - 2.5"

This story was a knock off of J.R. Ward’s black dagger brotherhood books and, to a lesser degree, the formula for Gena Showalter’s lords of the underworld books. Before I get to the copying, there were some other aspects of the book I didn’t like. The author wrote poorly with things like saying a person was “weary tired.” Isn’t that redundant? The description of the other planet was overdone with saying Noah, the H, while on his home planet, SR44, had a mansion, a yacht, an island, and 3-day parties. And it was problematic to me that they showed no compassion for criminals on SR44 and no belief in rehabilitation of people who commit crimes. Those people were called “colonists”. They were ejected from SR44 society forever. 12 of the colonists take on human form and escape to Earth, and therein lies the crux of this story and the problem of this tale. Noah and 5 other pals (Talon, Cowon, Rayner, Jovan, Hudson), all soldiers on SR44, called the “6 saviors”, also take on human form and follow the colonists to earth to capture them and their descendants. These colonists are the worst of the worst. The author states that criminals Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Sadam Hussein were all colonists from SR44 and that the 6 saviors had a hand in ending their reign of terror. I disliked that aspect of the story the most. It didn’t hold together well, the attempt to use these facts in this fictional story. Another problem was that Noah is supposed to be 200+ years old but is also supposed to have been on earth that long too. So the math doesn’t work considering he was an adult, appearing as a 30-yr-old human, when he came to earth. SR44 people live for about 2000 years on average. Another problem was the author’s attempt to use “urban” lingo, like saying that the missile cilo, where the 6 saviors lived, was “pimped out” and having one of the saviors say “back off my grill,” which was used so wrongly. The author also overused the terms ”dainty,” “big,” and “huge.” Big and huge was used when talking about the 6 saviors’ bodies, of course. And, of course, Abby had to be dainty. The natural form of SR44 people was varying hues of a smoke-like substance. So it was quite upsetting when the author said that the colonists, the criminals turned black. The reason for this was either b/c of the lack of sunlight on the island they were exiled to or b/c of “evil in their rotting souls.” The author’s resonance with a horrible racial stereotype was either ignorant, at best, or mean-spirited, at worst.

These are the ways in which this story is a cheap knock-off of J.R. Ward’s black dagger brotherhood and some of Gena Showalter’s lords of the underworld series: the 6 saviors living together in a fortress (a cilo), the importance of music (rock and not hip-hop in this story), cool or unusual names of the guys (Talon, Cowon, Rayner, Jovan, Hudson, Noah), they are rich, the constant presence and use of strong alcohol, muscled-bodies guys, the long lives of the soldiers, having one male group member who works the stock market, one member who likes expensive clothes, and a “resident tech head,” the soldiers’ overuse of profanity as a sign of strength and coolness, their strange eyes or other body part, the author’s attempt at the males being funny, the soldiers driving a black escalade (though Noah drove another car too), the female love interests having a cat and, as the first in the series, also being an unhappy, economically poor, parentless female journalist, using the term “female” for women, and making non-verbs verbs (i.e. “a whole lotta no winning”. Yep. Copying. A cheap knock-off.

There were very few things that I liked about this story. Of those things, I liked that Abby was portrayed as more than just a pretty face. Often Noah said that he liked her because she was generous and kind along with her looks. I liked that it was not a sex-filled story, though I absolutely have no problem with those when appropriate. There was 1 oral sex scene, with it performed on Abby, near the earlier part of the story. Then there was 1 act of intercourse between Abby and Noah near the end of the story. There were about 2 others that were just alluded to later in the story too. The sex scenes were brief, and there was no explicit sexual talk. There was a good balance of romance and mild suspense as the saviors chased the colonists.

The narrator was okay, though his depiction of Talon’s voice was too high. And the ending was a bit over-dramatized and manufactured.

"LOVED IT - CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE FOURTH KIND"

Warning - once you start this 1st book in the new unique Six Saviors series, you won't want to stop as the action, world-building, characters and the sweet romance will surely captivate you and carry you away to join in on their adventure.

Six 6'5" hunky immortal Alien Warriors from a distant planet are on an important mission and they each have their own abilities and coloured auras but they've been on Earth for over 200 years and, although the close bonds and friendship is there, they are each feeling lost and alone.

Noah is posing as a Profiler so they can track down the murderous evil villains that have escaped from their home planet but as soon as Noah meets Abby the mutual attraction is there and he finds himself smiling again. But he and Abby must fight it because if he gives in it will have disastrous effects but his longing and inner struggle builds and he's got to choose his duty to the mission, his pride and honor or Abby, mortality and love.

There's great chemistry and interaction between the Warriors with snappy funny dialogue too which makes them very likeable and loveable characters. The entertaining and enjoyable plot is full of action (sometimes a little predictable but hey ho), twists, intrigue, conflicts, murder, revenge, a tender sweet romance, sex (in the end) and tension as the villain must be caught when he targets Abby.

Worth a credit? I hadn't heard of this author before so it was a gamble and a delightful surprise so YES, IMHO, a very credit-worthy Sci-Fi/Paranormal Romance.

I'm slightly biased. I read all The Six Saviours Books and loved each and everyone of them.
This audio book only made them better and it felt almost like a new read to me.
The Narrator was extremely well chosen and his voice really lifted the story for me.
I can't wait to hear the other 5 Books
