Publisher's summary

His powers - inhuman; His passion - beyond immortal. All her life, Ashlyn Darrow has been tormented by voices from the past. To end the nightmare, she has come to Budapest seeking help from men rumored to have supernatural abilities, not knowing she'll be swept into the arms of Maddox, their most dangerous member - a man trapped in a hell of his own. Neither can resist the instant hunger that calms their torments...and ignites an irresistible passion. But every heated touch and burning kiss will edge them closer to destruction - and a soul-shattering test of love.
Don't miss the other books in the Lords of the Underworld series.

Eye roller…narrator makes gross mouth noises

The narrator has a pleasant voice, but he chose to give the main male character the dumbest, airiest voice he could muster. Think surfer dude but angry. It was bad. And I don’t know how this was edited; he makes so many mouth squishy noises with noise farts, it’s gross. Like this author, but this book is an easy pass, Audible or print.

Amazing Start to an Amazing Story

I've read this book about 3 times now. I love this series so much. The story is so captivating, and this book is a great start to a wild and sect journey.

Beginning to a fantastic series

This is a favorite series of mine. It's just fun to go back and just re-visit a series discovered years ago. I do love those Lords of the Underworld!! If you don't know them, then it's time you do. This is a fan favorite of the paranormal genre lovers. This isn't my favorite book in the series, but that does not mean it isn't good.

Maddox - The Warrior

This book was awesome! Maddox is worth the fight! He actually stirred my blood. The reader was great as well. He really made the book come alive.

Steamy

The story line was predictable, but man this women can write a sex scene. I work from home and listen to books for a good part of my day. My husband and kids will sometimes walk in to get something and I normally let the books play. Not this one when I heard that doorknob turn the book was paused. If you're a prude pass it by, otherwise order the whole series.

HOT

The intensity of Maddox's fight with his literal inner demon just amplifies the heat between him and Ashlynn. Amazingly Showalter manages a sumptuous depth of character development with out slowing the story down at all.

IT WAS BETTER WHEN I WAS YOUNGER...

I loved ALL of her books, but "hearing" it wasn't the same. It's different now.

Good storyline, but love scenes are a bit much

The storyline is great. While the characters are a bit hot-headed and immature, I always enjoy a good bad boy story - keeping their city safe, their way. The characters are interesting and the story original. It was just too much Halequin when it came to the love scenes.

Heroes Yum. Heroine...I could've done without!

I was so excited about beginning a new series when I started The Darkest Night. I really wanted to like this book more, but just didn’t. I adore the heroes and could read the series on the strength of them alone. I can see myself falling as in love with them as I have with the heroes of the Ione and Moning realms.
Now, onto the heroine…Sorry but gosh…The main heroine Ashlyn pretty much ruined the story for me. I kept hoping I’d like her more as the story continued, but I didn’t. At any rate, I don’t plan on giving up on the Lords of the Underworld just yet. There are several more titles so hopefully the rest of the heroines won’t be as irksome as this one. I’ll need a wee break though before I return…
