Interesting Introduction to LOTU

This is the prequel to Lords of the Underworld. I have read several reviews and yes in parts I agree with them. It's really is not a first book, but I wouldn't know where to put it in the series. It explains some historical information that may be wanted by some readers and not by others so it is a love it or hate it book. There is only one heavy sex scene and the rest of the book is very tame in comparison to the rest of the series in terms of action, romance, drama etc. It is a very short story and maybe later on in the series Garion and Kadance will be met again but I really don't know. I haven't read the series in about 4 years so I'm very behind.I personally appreciated the background story so I enjoyed the story.

The narrator was amazing I loved loved loved his voice. It was deep, smooth, and seductive like dark chocolate. He draws you in and seduces you. I will definitely mark him as a favorite to listen to again. He made you feel the story the highs lows and everything in between.

Surprise ending! Loved it!

I didn't expect the ending, but in its own way it was perfect. I truly enjoyed this book! Max Bellmore does a wonderful job as narrator. I highly recommend it.

Another great series!!

This is the first I have heard from both the author and narrator. I love the storyline for this series and I can't wait to listen to the next book. Sometimes you don't get the right narrator for this type of story but Max Bellmore is perfect.

The Underworld

Wow, I am actually very happy with this story. I love the romance that was built before we were introduced to the characters. Their journey took them into the underworld and you could still get a sense of their quest even though it wasn't overly descriptive. I hope there are more available, I'm interested to see if there's another story that follows.

redhat queen

I really enjoyed this book. It was dark and intriguing. I would like to read or listen to more of your books. You picked a great narrator too.

'Eh! It was 'Eh

This is a new series for me....so I started at the beginning, book 0.5 as it were. This wasn't at all what I thought the series would be like. A lot of old language, not a lot of spice, very short and really anticlimactic, but what did I really expect from a book that is what not even 2 hours long? It gave a short back story to the rest of the books. I decided to listen to book 1 in the series before writing this review, and I'm glad I did! Book 1, The Darkest Night, was more what I thought the series would be like.

I could have done without this prequel, and if I had to do it over again I wouldn't get it because it is SOOO different than the rest of series that it almost turned me off to the series before I got started.

It's not that it is poorly written, and there is some "tension" in a good way, but ...well....'eh....kind of covers it.

one of my favorites!

Would you listen to The Darkest Fire again? Why?

I have listened to this series 4 times now and it is better every time.

What about Max Bellmore’s performance did you like?

Max bellmore total pulls you in to the story. He is right up there with Phil Gigante.

Any additional comments?

This series is as good as the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Very awesome!

Yum! Great beginning!

Unlike so many UF/PNR series where you have to deal with intense world building, Showalter writes a gorgeous book about love, and gives us a small but fascinating glimpse at her LOTU series. Maddox and Ashton are extraordinary H/H, and Showalter breaks you into her world of myths, gods, angels, demons, and immortal warriors slowly.

I highly recommend this series. Each book is fantastic. 1, 2 and 4 are my favorite. And I'm on 6 now.

I love the series, despite very low expectations. Fantastic narrator as well.

It finally ends

Well-it was good to have this storyline close-at least for now. The characters became to repetitive and the story line just a bit dull. The descriptions of events were generally the same from the author's previous books and the over all concepts; though interesting at first-have been overdone.

Will be interested to see what else the author can write about as she uses the flow of words well, adds in humor when needed and leaves enough information for the listener to wonder what will happen next.
