Publisher's summary

Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands - from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg - gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship - and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.

Cal - who would be devastatingly sexy, if Iris allowed herself to think that way - offers Iris a hefty fee for hiding him at her place until he figures out who wants him permanently dead. Even though he's imperious, unfriendly, and doesn't seem to understand the difference between "employee" and "servant", Iris agrees, and finds herself breaking more and more of her own rules to help him - particularly those concerning nudity. Turns out what her quiet little life needed was some intrigue and romance - in the form of her very own stray vampire.

important note

this is actually book 5 and driving mr dead is book 6 as well as the follow up-tie in to this book... it won't ruin it to listen as listed but flows better as I listed.

Funny with a good story

If you could sum up The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires in three words, what would they be?

This book was funny, has some action in it, some interpersonal storyline, and (unfortunately) a Vampire to Human love story.
I liked the story, it kept me interested and i laughed ALLOT...I really liked the interaction between the two sisters, and the main characters sense of humor. She cracked me up allot and her wit was as engaging as well.

A girl finds a 1/2 "dead" vampire and takes him into her home to nurse him and action, funny stuff, and romance (of course) happen. Really, read it for its wit and humor...

What did you like best about this story?

The main character had smarts, wit, and humor. She wasn't the typical "human falls for a vampire" and goes gaga, character. She had a really nice look on life and I felt for her situation in life and her choices . I wanted to like her, and I did.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

I do have to say that this is one of the few books that I've "read" where I felt like the person who did the performance matched the intent of the author and added to the story. I liked Amanda's performance and it stood out for me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!

Any additional comments?

Really, read this book...while it has the "Human vs Vampire" love story snuck in there, it was still REALLY good and the humor and wit of the writer seemed to outshine the love story aspect that has been so overdone in many books these days.

Escapism!

What fun! Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi were made for each other. When I want to really relax on a long drive (my job is high stress; high focus) this is a great combo. The stories rarely disappoint. I admit that a time or two Ms. Ronconi's voice can be too much; but, it was in part the material, too. But for just a fun "read" you can't miss here.

Oh, yeah, this was a good effort. Worth buying.

Molly, write faster! I love these books!

What a great read these stories by Molly Harper are! My boyfriend has heard me laugh out loud when listening (on my iPad during a bath) and now he wants to listen to them too. Rarely do I get such pleasure from one author's writings, but Molly's sense of humor gets my funny bone every single time.

This particular story was a bit unusual in that the vampire was injured and not doing so great. Other vampire books have them be all super-powers and stuff. It was pretty funny when she fell over his body and smacked her face on the floor - I mean, not that she did it, but that Molly would write a scene that would happen to ME. I would totally fall flat on my face, no doubt about it! I would then probably scream like crazy too.

Pet peeve - it did bug me that there were two clear foot prints in the pollen on the front porch in front of the window... but did anyone raise a fuss or mention it? If that had been MY house, I'd have had spy cams set up and facing the windows, that's for sure!

I highly recommend Molly Harper's books if you love a good laugh. They can get pretty steamy, so I wouldn't recommend them around kids. For me, the steamier parts aren't really necessary and I have been known to fast forward through them as they're not a great help on staying focused on washing dishes (using my iPad and a speaker so I stay entertained while cleaning).

Pretty awesome

So, I didn't catch the part where she lived in Kentucky, but when she started mentioning things that I've only heard of in lil' ol' western Kentucky, I got excited! That town is just a 30 min. Trip from where I went to college! So cool that this nifty story fell into my lap!

Smutty vampire/human sex and lots of laughs

I had low expectations for this book, expecting a light 'read', as it were, and got a ton more laughs and smiles (and smut, meow) than previously expected. This book is definitely a lighter read, but a very enjoyable one and I will be recommending it to ALL of my friends (much to their annoyance, my rec. list just keeps growing).
I'll admit it's still not top of my list as a best book ever, but I do think it will be a repeat listen. Also, if you're a Buffy fan, you'll love the well placed jokes.

Welcome home

I loved getting to come back to this world and see some characters from the previous books again. Iris is an amazing woman caring for her sister and Cal is a secretive dangerous ancient vampire. I love these two together and Iris’ little sister. These two battle each other a lot in wills but they are so much fun. Cal has to figure out who wants him dead and Iris gives him a safe place in exchange for money. If you know this series you know the laughs and sarcasm you’ll get from these characters.
