No matter how hard she tries, Elleanor Fisher never thinks she's good enough, from her job to her weight to her love life. After enduring years of abuse at the hands of an ex-boyfriend, Elli has been drifting through life in a daze. Until, that is, she meets Shea Adler on a promotional shoot for the NHL's Nashville Assassins. Before Elli knows what's happening, the gorgeous Shea breaks the ice and shatters her world. A brilliant athlete inside the rink, Shea Adler is tired of the life he's living outside of it: the women, the money, the drinking. But everything changes when he meets Elli. After laying eyes on this feisty, witty, beautiful woman, he feels like he's just taken the hardest hit of his life. No matter how skeptical she is, Shea knows they are meant to be together - if only he can convince Elli to put her insecurities aside before she misses out on a shot at love.

I'm proud to be a bookaholic...addicted, obsessed, passionate!!! My favorite way to relax & escape reality....
This is the FIRST book in the Assassins series. For most of the book there was really no conflict, just a budding romance between two very different people. It was simply a love story between a successful woman, Elli, who is loaded with insecurities, and a professional athlete, Shea, who is so amazing. Shea is the captain of the Assassins hockey team in Nashville. The heroine Ellie is sweet, funny, smart, and a incredibly successful photographer. She is also a young southern lady who has insecurity issues. Elli Fisher has been hurt, emotionally and physically, by former loves and her family. After overcoming a medical issues, she stood on her own for so long that she doesn't quite know how to trust others. Shea meets Elli at a team photo shoot where she is the photographer. He gets her to do the photography at party of his and things start to progress from there. This book has it all. Laughter, sexy time, drama, heartache and love. Shea the sexy, sensitive, tattooed hockey player for the Assassins wears geek glasses is muscled, funny, sweet, jealous, possessive and becomes totally in love &devoted to Elli. And Shea’s absolutely adorable with his twin sister, Grace, and her family. I thought Shea and Elli were so sweet together. However, Elli's excessive doubts throughout the chapters were the only qualms I had with the book, everything else was good. I did appreciate the slow building romance. These two characters did not just meet, had insta-love and lived happily ever after. Oh no, you got to see a build of a fantastic and realistic love. All in all, the book was entertaining and if you enjoy hot hockey players, I recommend it.
Hot hockey guy falls for insecure babe. OK, I actually like most of the book and found Ellie's insecurities believable. However, in order to throw the final monkey wrench into the plot, the heroine suddenly believes people who have always lied to her, characters who were always straight shooters suddenly beat around the bush, and people stop talking to each other for no real reason except to further the anxiety of our hero & heroine. The last couple of hours of the book ruined what I had previously enjoyed. Too bad.
Probably not. The female lead character, Elli, drove me nuts. I can't think of another female character in all of literature who is more of a spineless twit. The other characters in the book were enjoyable but it was almost painful to listen to her inner dialogue. She is plagued by body image issues, has no self-confidence, needs validation from the man in her life (which she repeatedly rejects anyway!!), and continually trusts those she already knows she shouldn't.
Elli's best friend. She (eventually) lays it on the line and delivers Elli a giant truth bomb.
As long as it follows ANY other character in the story and not Elli.
I'm finding it difficult to actually think of something that I really liked about this book, unfortunately nothing really stands out about it. It was simply OK. There is a lot that I didn't like though. Perhaps these things are the reason I can't find anything to exceptional about Taking Shots. I found it extremely annoying with the continuous use of the giggling, and Shea referring to Elli and all women as GIRLS. Come on, we're supposed be talking about grownups here, not teenagers. I kept hoping that she stop using those phrase so much, but it didn't happen. It was distracting and kept thinking that it all sounded childish. Drove me crazy.
Now I have to admit that I liked the ending....it was probably the one part of the whole but that felt like I was dealing with adults and not a couple of kids. It was dramatic and sappy and a little funny at the same time. I won't go into what happened cause it was the best part of the whole book.
I liked Lucy's reading of the book. She did a good job of letting you know Shea was from the east coast and that Elli was pure southern.
Well making it sound like they were talking about adults would have made it sooooo much better. Shea was a sweetheart, maybe to sweet at times. I mean he is supposed be this hot, famous hockey player after all. Also Elli was a contradiction. They want you to think of her as this sophisticated, confident, successful woman. But most of the time she came across as anything but. Overall, Taking Shots was simply OK. It wasn't a bad read. If your really bored and you don't mind the strange use of wording in the book, then you will enjoy this book. It had it's moments. I might try another just to see if she continues with the same phrasing, if so then it will most likely be the last one I buy.
I wouldn't say it was time well spent so much as a way to pass time (while driving). I only hope TA's writing gets better for the rest of the series. I found it to be juvenile in some places and just okay in others.
Thought it was the best part of the book
I have listened to Ms. Malone in the past, however, she did not, in my opinion, perform well in this one. Much too choppy and didn't change the tempo of her voice when warranted. I think she needs more practice.
Nope. I was hoping that it would inspire me to purchase the upcoming books in the series and introduce me to a new author....disappointed on both counts.
Books Make Me HAPPY
I am so happy I listened to my friends and purchased this book! I plan to finish the entire series one after another.
Every woman deserves to be loved by a man like Shea. Elli doesn't think she is worthy of someone like this sweet talking, beautiful hockey player. It's like her fantasies are coming to life and she can't seem to believe it's real and she isn't dreaming.
I loved every second of this love story told by Lucy Malone. She has been one of my favorite narrators for a while now and her performance of this book just reinforced how much I enjoy getting lost in her voice and the stories she tells.
Yes for it to be the original full book
Yer she isn't a bad writer, I liked reading her book more then the audible version
Loves the pride and prejudice birthday party
Say something about yourself!
I liked this story a lot and the characters were good. I actually understood the heroine and didn't get annoyed by her like others seem to. Everything she has been through and her mother hurting her the way she did I understand her fears and insecurities. The only thing I did not like about her was how it took her forever to figure out she was in love with Shea.
Cons: I do not care for books that have our characters hooking up with anyone else or trying to. No there is no cheating in this book. I just get turned off at the thought and it really moves the star rating down by 2-3 points for me when an author does this. Shea could have drank and done without the trying to move on and heal his pain with other women. He did not sleep with any girls no, but I don't even like that he tried.
Con 2. The book was about 4 hours to long.
I liked the characters in this book and the funny moments. I am not sure if I will continue with the serious because, like I said before. Cheating is a no no in my book no matter the reasons or what happened. It seems the next book our Hero did this in a drunkin/drugged up state. Also these books are just way to long it seems. I haven't made up my mind yet though because I did enjoy the complete love Shea had for his girl, and I would love to read about that kinda love again.
