Publisher's Summary

Lee Ann London once had big plans…scholarship, college, love. Then she found herself raising her deceased sister’s twin girls when their father disappeared. Now, with her beautiful girls, a community that depends on her, and her photography studio finally taking off, Lee Ann may not have the life she’d imagined, but it’s definitely the one she wants. Until Cody, her bad-boy ex, returns to Sugar Springs…

Cody’s childhood put a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas. Bouncing around the foster care system, he was always the one to leave before anyone left him first. Then he found a place he wanted to stick: with Lee Ann, the best thing that ever happened to him. Only, he hurt her. Bad. He’s back now, and determined to earn her forgiveness…and maybe win back her love while he’s at it.

    "Way good!"

This story had a lot of depth. I really loved all the characters and I couldn't put is down. Although, not related as in a series, Kim Law's other book "Caught on Camera" was equally good if you like this one.
Natalie Ross does a great job as well. She makes the story come alive and the characters believable. Would definitely listen to both again!

It was a nice light lsiten and just need something to get you through to the next book. You may want to add it to your wish list as a filler.

I ignore genre labels. Some of my favorite books are outside my genre comfort zone. Listening to audiobooks is still reading. Not theater.

    "Sickly Sweet Sugar Springs"

I enjoyed the author's other book on Audible, Caught on Camera. So was looking forward to reading Sugar Springs. It was difficult to finish. I kept waiting for it to get some grit or tension. I kept expecting the main characters to develop some character. A little personality would have been nice. Instead everyone, even the bad boy was just too nice. It was hard to imagine that the citizenry of the town could have held a grudge against him all these years for a fairly mild childhood prank, especially because most of them didn't know about the affair.

And the twins sounded like they were 30 not twelve. They were just too perfect and well adjusted. The narrator was as syrupy as the characters and the plot.

It made my teeth hurt. I may have developed a cavity reading this one.

What disappointed you about Sugar Springs?

The story, the characters, the lack of excitement, romance, poor dialogue...I could go on and on.

What was most disappointing about Kim Law’s story?

The characters were immature and there really wasn't a story to the..well story.

What does Natalie Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Natalie Ross did a great job but even she couldn't breath life into this story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sugar Springs?

I wouldn't necessarily cut them, I probably would add to them and edit edit edit...

I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!

    "Rekindled Romance"

I have made no bones about my enjoyment of romance novels. I will even go so far to say that one thing I like about them is their predictability. What can I say? I like a happy ending.

Sugar Springs by Kim Law doesn't disappoint and Natalie Ross was outstanding with the delivery of the story.

Lee Ann London is a busy single mom. She nursed her sister while she was pregnant, won't give too much away here, and took the two little girls after her sister passed away, when Lee Ann wasn't much more than a kid herself. I really enjoyed the fact that Law didn't gloss over some of the struggles a young single mother would face, and given the way that these two little girls came about Law did a wonderful job highlighting Lee Ann's strength and courage without making her into a martyr.

Cody Dalton was the bad boy that Lee Ann gave her heart too in high school, but a crushing blow drove the two of them apart and Cody skipped down. And now, he's back.

We all know that a big part of a book like this is the bad boy proving himself a changed man, but what I loved most about Law's book is that she made Cody just as unsure of himself as Lee Ann was. He wasn't overly confident, he didn't get by on his swagger. He struggled and looked to find a place for himself, and that is why I enjoyed this book.

Romances are predictable, but it's what brings us TO that happy ending that makes or breaks a book for me. Law did a great job weaving a story or broken trust and fragile emotions.
There is some sexual content but not too much.
She set up a few different stories that could continue the Sugar Springs storyline, so I hope she revisits them. I would really love to see Lee Ann, Cody and their girls again.

    Any additional comments?

    "too much thinking"

This is how it went. Something happens. She thinks 5 things and then wonders 7 things, then compares all those thinks to her childhood. Eventually she says something. He then feels 7 things, hates himself 5 ways to Sunday and wonders 4 more things. Then he says something. It takes 5 years for them to even have a conversation.
Natalie Ross was superb and is the only reason I finished this damn book.

I thoroughly enjoyed Sugar Springs. The characters are great and the plot is awesome. Would have liked a bit more spice to the love scenes, though.

    "Slow-moving story and uniteresting characters"
Would you try another book from Kim Law and/or Natalie Ross?

    Probably not

    Any additional comments?

The slow-moving story line, combined with the uninteresting characters made this book a snore. The intimate scenes were not nearly steamy enough to keep the characters moving forward and the "uh-oh" at the end was both predictable and trite.
