Publisher's summary

"Old habits die hard for assassins. And I plan on murdering someone before the night is through.

"Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very, very good at it. Now, I'm ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was 13. Oh, I don't think the mission will be easy, but turns out it's a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I'm coming for her. So now I'm up against the army of lethal bounty hunters Mab hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister's head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second. Good thing I've got my powerful Ice and Stone magic - and my irresistible lover, Owen Grayson - to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there's a good chance I won't survive. But if I'm going down, then Mab's coming with me...no matter what I have to do to make that happen."

Gin's elemental magic dual with Mab Monroe.

Very good expression when she narrates, really makes you feel she is The Spider.

laughter throughout, especially when Fenn is involved!

Would like to know when Thread of Death will be available, so I can finish listening to the entire series. Thread of Death is #6 book which you do not have available.

Very good listen

Another good book from Jennifer Estep. I love this series. I am anxious for the next chapter of Gin and her friends.

Revenge

I thought I’d give this series another chance and start where I last stopped with book 5. I really like strong willed tough as nails female lead characters but Gin Blanco is an idiot. Each book she has somehow managed to screw up some aspect of a kill, which begs the question of how she is the almighty assassin feared by the underworld. I thought things might improve as the series moved along but after she missed killing her target not once but twice in this book and managed to put those she loves in jeopardy, I’m done. There’s also way too much reminiscing of things covered in the prior books in this one. The narrator did a good job.

Repetition galore

If you could take out all the repetition and the constant reminders then the story would be a lot better. A lot of what's in the book is something you already know if you've read the previous books in the series. In fact, you probably have a good portion memorized because the same story or description is told in each book.

In this one it finally comes down to a show-down between Mab and Gin. I won't give anything else away, although I'm sure you can guess who wins.

Somebody slap me please!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It depends on your tolerance.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jennifer Estep? Why or why not?

Ugh, yes . . . I am a glutton for long winded and drawn out punishment.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Lauren Fortgang?

Still pending.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably if they could cut the crap, it would probably be better than the book.

Any additional comments?

I really like the settings of these books. I really like the characters. I really HATE the long extended crap in getting to the friggin POINT! Jennifer is horrible at drawing every action out until you just want to fast forward or turn the damn thing off. Explanations in this series suck. Jennifer places them at ALL key points (at the beginning of every defining action) and draws them out for more time. Pull the damn trigger already or I'm leaving. She's has to input the actions of the previous books and how she FEELS about everything! If assassins had this many feelings they wouldn't BE assassins! They'd be stuck in therapy! And it get's worse with every book. I read them because I like character quirkiness and the DEFINING actions not because I'm falling in love with how it is written.
Am I the only one who would like authors to stop reciting actions from previous books in the series? If you just picked up book 5 and you missed something GO BACK and read the other books lazy! The rest of us shouldn't have to suffer.

Stop rehashing!!!!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

If you have invested time in the previous books then yes.

What was most disappointing about Jennifer Estep’s story?

The constant retelling of the previous books stories. I found this to be overdone to the point of annoying.

What three words best describe Lauren Fortgang’s performance?

Sultry Smooth and Southern

Could you see Spider's Revenge being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Sure absolutely, Serinda Swan would be great as the Spyder

Why repeat every detail from the previous books?

I started this series with a lot of excitement about the Author, Reader and story, but by the end of the 5th book, I was done. There is an origin, or back story, but it never seems like any of the assassin's experiences before the book begins has any effect on the story. The origin story is spoon fed over the first 5 volumes, but is very predictable. Also, we keep hearing about how she is the best assassin in the world, but she never completes the job without almost getting killed herself.

The worst part is the repeating. Every book has all of the details of the previous books repeated. By the time I got to the 5th book, it felt like 90% of the book was hearing the previous 4 books recapped. Why?

I think the series could redeem itself with some better editing and some surprises. The premise os compelling and the characters are likable. AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

The word is AGAIN!

Seriously, just use the word 'again'. I swear if I hear 'once more' one more time I will loose my damn mind. There is so much repetition. Not just recapping a story or event, literally THE SAME EXACT PHRASE or sentence is used to describe the same event over, and over, and over. Every book feels like reading a first draft, not a polished and edited book. This series had so much promise, cool idea and characters (a little trope-y but workable) but the bad writing/editing pulls you out of the story. I read books 1-6 because I was invested, and kept hoping it would get better as it went along. It didn't. I'm done, not reading anymore of these.

Spider's Incompetence.

Why does she think she is such a great assassin? To date none, I mean none of her jobs have ever work out the way she plans. She has always has something go wrong and she blames luck, most of it is because she is incompetent. If not for Jo Jo she would be screwed. Since I like to buy things when they are on sale, I unfortunately bought six books in the series and I then felt obligated to read them. I know many people love this series and if they have made it this far probably like this series, but the narrator is slow talking and it seems to take forever to read. It did pick up the second half of the book and was better. Although it is not the worst book I have ever read, and I do enjoy the aspect of the elemental magic.
