US law enforcement agent Heather Lane can read minds but not the future. The dream of battle and blood that recurs every night must be a fluke, some obscure terror from her own mind. What its significance might be, she can't guess: an attack from seven psychotic vampires at once, only separated from nightmare by an eighth very different immortal. A handsome, brave man fighting at her side, a man she misses when she wakes. Then the dream comes true. Heather is flung into a war between predators and protectors of humanity, with the man from her dreams beside her again. Except now that she's awake, she isn't sure that she can trust Ethan or the shadow organization he represents. The US military doesn't trust either of them. But against an onslaught of evil like the one that's coming, it will take everything they have just to survive....

Loving my life and hanging out with my four grandchildren!
Wow! Just wow! I waited over a year for this installment, and it was well worth the wait! We get to see the unfolding story of the Immortal Guardian Ethan, and his lady love Heather. There is plenty of action to make you become fully hooked into the story, and may cause you to want to listen in one sitting. That's pretty much what I did! We got to see what has been happening since the last battle with all those rouge vampires, and boy didn't they come back with a vengeance! Thank goodness there are those like Ethan, Seth, Roland, David, and all those kick ass ladies and seconds to put thing to right! Way to go Immortal Guardians! Five star rating all the way in my opinion! Nothing wrong with this book. Absolutely nothing!
I love this series so it ranks in my top 3
The other Immortal Guardian books.
I do love Seth but, I think Aiden is my new favorite! Love, Love his personality and his accent!! The fact he is enlisting help to find a potential gifted one to love him is endearing! I want to hug him :)
I was on the edge of my seat because the action in this book is non stop and the twists are just everywhere. I did laugh at the big, tough Immortals trying to figure out what to do with a sweet baby.
This series is great. Anyone that loves action, some serious kick ass characters and some hard earned HEA...this is for you.
doesnt feel like this is the end, and I want more!!! fantastic story, interesting characters and hot sex.. what's not to like ;)
If you've never listened to this series, don't waste a minute reading the rest of my review, go buy the series ASAP!! Every book has been fantastic and this one has taken the series to another level. There's action, romance, intrigue, and humor--I love the Immortals and can't wait for the next one!
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was a great story and a fitting addition to the Immortal Guardians series. Ethan and Heather made another great couple and I was actually surprised at how much I liked them. I'd met Ethan in previous books and didn't think much of him at the time. When I saw this book was his story I figured I'd like it but I ended up enjoying it (and Ethan as the hero) much more than I expected.
Heather is a gifted one and has telepathic abilities. She makes her living as a consultant, supposedly reading truth or lies based on facial micro-expressions but she really uses her telepathy. Heather's father is a General in the military and he does his best to safeguard her secret.
Ethan is an Immortal Guardian that has been alive for over a century. He was trained by Lisette (the heroine from book #5, Night Unbound) and they had been lovers for a while until she met and married Zack. Since then, Ethan has been going on with life but has felt like something was missing.
About a year before the story begins, Heather started having dreams about a fight with Vampires taking place. She's never had prophetic dreams before but the dream kept reoccurring and she felt the need to see if it actually would happen. Heather managed to find the clearing where the dream took place and rented a house near by and then every morning (at the time it took place in her dream) Heather visited the clearing. She never actually expected it to happen and is surprised when Ethan and a group of 7 vamps (all of whom she saw in the dream) actually show up. Heather ends up helping Ethan kill the vamps and that throws them together. There's a strong attraction between them and despite the fact that Ethan's world in dangerous, Heather gets pulled into it.
The fact that Heather is having prophetic dreams indicates that the enemy of the Immortal Guardians (a bad guy that wants to start World War 3) might be playing with her head so the Immortal Guardians keep her close to protect her...which gives her and Ethan time to get to know each other better (and fall in love). There are many difficulties though as Heather's father gets pulled into things and the Immortals aren't sure if he'll be an ally or try to use them for his own aims. The bad guy has learned to shield himself and it makes his capture difficult. There are battles and many things going on that keep the story interesting and kept me engaged and overall, I really like how things are progressing. The series storyline is continued into the next book but this book does end with Heather and Ethan together and starting a HEA.
I enjoyed this story greatly. Ethan and Heather are a really good couple and I enjoyed seeing them come together. The series storyline is intricate yet easy to keep up with and the author has done a great job at keeping the action ongoing without making things repetitive or boring. I highly recommend this story and the series. :D
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
What a brilliant series this is with it's never ending world building and growing suspense, tension-filled action scenes, twists and sigh-worthy romances which leave me in awe of Dianne Duvall's incredible vision to write such an imaginative world. A world where Rogue Vampires, Immortals, Elders, an Alien, Humans and 'Others' battle it out to either accomplish Armageddon or try to stop it and then she successfully manages to weave a powerful love story within the midst of conflict and danger. And, in Ethan and Heather's story, we get to witness the fights, the blood, the fangs, the danger, the passion, the sex, the slow layering of the plot and the intense commaradary between all the Guardians as they try to stop WWIII from happening at the manipulative hands of an enemy that can't be seen, sensed..... or perhaps even stopped.
New Alliances have been made, battles have been won and two lovely characters have found each other in humorous, tense, romantic and passion-filled chapters. But the War is far from over and I hope it lasts and lasts and lasts because there are so many loveable characters who are all in desperate need of a mate of their own to accompany them through their lonely immortality made up with constant fighting. One of the best things about this book is that the story brings all the Guardian characters into the fight so it's a joint effort from well loved characters we've already met in previous books or the new and fresh ones willing to choose sides and take up weapons to help in the bloody fight which creates such a multi-layered story.
There's no question that Dianne Duvall is a maestro at PNR and she must rank very highly in this genre for giving us such descriptive, imaginative and complex stories. However, for me, Kirsten Potter's narration of the very varied and vast amount of characters, the gripping chapters and the romantic scenes were all transformed and brought to life by her so, in my head, I could easily picture all the action up close and personal like my very own mental movie. And that's the magic, the glue and the missing essential ingredient that so many of us listens have to suffer through in lesser listens because the choice of narrator can transform fine print into fireworks if the right one is picked..... and, in this case, they've picked the perfect person.
Worth a credit? It has it all.... the wows, the ahhhs, the eeeks, the gasps, the sighs and the wtf moments are all gloriously housed within this listen which was a joy to lose myself in. So, YEAH every one of these books from this series have been creditworthy and this one's no exception.
Edwina "I Love Books'
Yes, Kirsten Potter is an excellent narrator. She changes her voice with ease to the different characters in the story. The story is very well written by the author Dianne Duvall and it has very good lead characters and secondary characters though out the story.
The introduction of New "Others" and Immortal Guardians. I really fell in love with Baby Adira and the IG Aiden. I hope Aidens story is next.
When Seth, Zack and David meet with General Milton Lane to prove who they were and what they were to gain there allegiance to stop Gersom and his Vampire Army.
Everything to do with Baby Adira the Guardians. The love for Adira by the Guardians comes through.
Shadows Strike is another great book by Dianna Duvall in her Immortal Guardians series.
Kirsten Potter is excellent at the narration of this books and many other. I have listen to that she has narrated.
Say something about yourself!
I have adored this world since the first book, it is seriously one of my favorite series of all times, which is why I was really disappointed with this installment.
Maybe it was this is the story of Ethan, a barely 100 year old immortal. He is the one that had been sleeping with Lizette until Zach came along. I really liked that he found someone he could be with now that Lizette is taken but it was all too cookie cutter for my liking.
Is she a gifted one wasn't up for debate, and so many other things happened that just had me thinking this plot is just full of contrived drama for the sake of it, and I really dislike that in my books. One beloved character goes a bit wonky and we never find out of it's a permanent thing or not. Many new people are introduced and can't tell if they are trust worthy or not. Overall I was just sadly disappointed that it didn't feel like a real story, just a bunch of characters we know and love sitting around chatting...absolutely no point to most of it.
Kirsten Potter was still great of course, just sad to have waited this long for....blah!
Love listening to audiobooks, and being swept away by a great story and narrator. It's my therapy, and I need it daily!
Shadow Strike was a great addition to the Immortal Guardians series! It's full of action, suspense and hot romance and I look forward to the next story in the series.
I am the definition of a contradiction. I am a tomboy but just can't seem to get enough of romance books!
Shame in me for hesitating on the purchase... In my defense I was captivated by the Dresden files series!
I have missed the Immortals! The gang is back together and once again this book did not disappoint! Ms. Porter provides splendid narration as always.
Book 5 left off having finally revealed who the bad guy is... Book 6 now takes us through the process of understanding just how bad that is... Possibly even more powerful than Seth!!!!
As the battle continues another immortal finds love.. Ethan, who has had little spotlight in the past gets his chance. Powerful forces have intervened and he and Heather have met. The attraction is powerful and quickly but it is clear Ethan and Heather were meant to be.
What I particularly love about this book is that there was more happening even as the love story between the main characters was developing! If I had to pick my favorite moment.... It was when Zach finally got to exact a little revenge on a past enemy.... I also believe I actually like Aiden a lot more than I expected to! I hope his story is as amusing as his antics!
Overall this books get my vote! As well as my confirmation that it worth a credit!
