Publisher's summary

Fiercely loyal to his older brother, Alaric McCabe leads his clan in the fight for their birthright. Now he is prepared to wed for duty, as well. But on his way to claim the hand of Rionna McDonald, daughter of a neighboring chieftain, he is ambushed and left for dead. Miraculously, his life is saved by the soft touch of a Highland angel, a courageous beauty who will put to the test his fealty to his clan, his honor, and his deepest desires.

An outcast from her own clan, Keeley McDonald was betrayed by those she loved and trusted. When the wounded warrior falls from his horse, she is drawn to his strong, lean body. The wicked glint in his green eyes ignites a passion that will follow them back to Alaric's keep, where their forbidden love draws them deeper into the pleasures of the flesh. But as conspiracy and danger circle closer, Alaric must make an impossible choice: Will he betray his blood ties for the woman he loves?

Best of the Trilogy

Very moving and actually brought tears to my eyes towards the end. Enjoyed this trilogy immensely, but Alaric and Keeley's story was very moving and filled with emotion. One of the best trilogy series I have read and/or listened too. (I have both paperbacks, nook, and audible versions.) Kirsten Potter was a fantastic audible narrator. Highly Recommend!

Had to grit my teeth in the beginning

The McCabe laird abuses, kidnaps and threatens to kill the woman who has saved his brother. We are supposed to forgive this because his barbaric behavior is driven by overwhelming love for his wife.....that's convenient.

Fortunately the story isn't about this tempestuous martinet or I probably wouldn't have finished it.

It's an entertaining story, the performance is excellent.... just grit your teeth when Ewan McCabe enters the story and you'll be fine.

Good romance made great by narration

The writing was good, and although the plot wasn't the best it could be, the tenderness of the romance and the splendid narration that was carried with emotion and helped me immerse in the story, had made it a great listen.
I personally preferred this story to the previous one in the trilogy. I was almost dissuaded from listening to this book because of the previous one, that to me felt lacking in the development of the love and care of the main characters.
But, thanks to the great narration of the first book, I finally decided to try this one out.
To me, the insta love here (which I usually don't like) actually felt justified - the heroine having spent the better part of her life in loneliness, still dreaming of a warrior's love as she had when she was a child. As for the hero, his wounded state and the great care the heroine treated him with was a reasonable excuse for his immediate attraction.
I loved that he was the warrior to her and she the angel to him.

I do think that the plot was lacking in some parts and the story was spent dwelling over the same emotional conflict for long. Yet, it has not bothered me that much and i was able to ignore it.
To me, once the writing is good and the romance gripping, I'm able to easily set all plot issues aside.

All in all, it was worth the credit and I will definitely listening to it again in the future.

Wonderful romance!

This is the second book in this series, but it’s by far my favorite! The story of a healer cast out from her clan as a young girl who saves the life of an injured warrior kept me spellbound. The man is betrothed to the woman who was her best friend as a child, but they just can’t resist each other. When the time comes where he must marry his betrothed, both are determined to let each other go, but when something drastic and life changing happens all things change. Narration was excellent!

A sexy highlander treat!

The second installment in the McCabe series is even better than the first! The first book ended with Alaric McCabe agreeing to marry Rionna MacDonald in order to create an alliance against Duncan Cameron. On his way to the MacDonald land, Alaric is brutally attacked and left for dead. He barely escapes in his horse and is rescued by Keeley MacDonald. She is an outcast who lives alone. Keeley nurses Alaric back to health and in the process they fall madly in love. The problem is, the alliance between the McCabes and the MacDonalds is vital and urged by the King so Alaric cannot betray his clan and must marry Rionna MacDonald.

I must say this second book is twice as steamy as the first one. There's even a highlander style bondage scene that was a-freaking-mazing! Oh I can't get enough of that highlander lovin. .. one of the things that I liked most about this story is that it kept me wondering how in the world Alaric and Keeley would be able to make their relationship work. Be warned: you will need a box of Kleenex towards the end. So emotional!

Narration: Kirsten Potter once again did a wonderful job narrating this series. Great accent, great male voices and she added the emotion and intensity needed to take the story to the next level. This story was definitely a highlander treat and in the Top 5 historical romances I've listened to. A must listen for anyone who loves a Happily Ever After...

Wonderfull series, well worth it!

I’m always worried about historical novels…will they get the language right, will they hold true to the themes of the period….but since it was Maya Banks I had to take a shot, and was NOT disappointed! Wonderful story, and series, that made me laugh and made me cry. Couldn’t have asked for more!

One of the great ones

I swear this story wrung me out. So much love in an impossible situation. The Audible version was great. I wasn't to impressed with the reading of the first book in this series but she won me over with this story. Well done. and thank you Audible for including this series in the "Romance" package. The subscription has been worth every penny.

Awesome narrator/Good story

The only reason this book is not 5 stars is I just couldn’t get over how they had an easy solution to Aleric getting out if his marriage to better the alliance. However, I loved everything else about their story. It was filled with really good angst. The narrator was fantastic and I recommend the audiobook!

Sigh... the second book was just as good!

Again with the cover art! Where is the hero's long hair?! OK, petty, I know... So, this is the story of Alaric McCabe, fierce warrior and younger brother to the laird of the McCabe clan. The story starts with him heading over to the McDonald clan lands, planning to marry Rionna McDonald and to seal the alliance between the two clans. He is hesitant to marry her after seeing the love match between his brother Ewan and his new wife Mairin, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to support his clan. While on his way there, though, he is set upon by soldiers sent by the dastardly Duncan Cameron and is terribly wounded. By happenstance, his horse takes him to the tiny cabin of Keely McDonald, local healer who has been cast out of the clan, due to circumstances beyond her control. She saves his life and ends up being taken back to the McCabe lands, both to continue to help Alaric recover and to attend to Mairin's pregnancy and delivery, since the McCabes have no healer. What will happen to the burgeoning love between Alaric and Keely? What about the alliance between the McDonalds and the McCabes? What about Duncan Cameron? This is such an exciting and romantic read. Yes, I cried -- more than once! Looking forward to the third book in the trilogy!
