Publisher's summary

Stephanie Laurens authors USA Today best-selling historical romances such as A Rake's Vow and Devil's Bride. Lauren's Scandal's Bride is the hot and exciting third novel in her riveting Bar Cynster series.

Cynster men are invariably handsome rogues, and Catriona Hennessy, Scottish Lady of the Vale is well aware of their reputation. She is aghast when it is decreed by her guardian that she must marry the scandalous Richard Cynster within one week's time. Like her mother before her, Catriona is a beautiful, independent woman who needs no man to rule over her or the Vale. But what she does need is an heir--will the charming Richard Cynster be willing to give her what she wants? Facing unavoidable marriage, Richard savors the challenge of taming spirited Catriona. Simon Prebble's masterful narration of Laurens' tale will leave listeners feeling exhilarated.

Best Historical Book, Series

Heads up: I consider the Cynster series to be the best historical romance series I’ve found in over 40 years of obsessive reading.
Richard aka Scandal is called to Scotland for an inheritance from his mother who is dead almost 30 years. Fate keeps pushing him to Catriona "the Lady of the Vale".
Starts in 1819 & into the next year. No great saga, just satisfying reading if you like historical romance that's sexy, & without BDSM or heroines who are TSTL. All the Cynster women/wives can hold their own!
I don’t know if it’s in the back of an ebook but, years ago, in the back of a paperback I read Laurens’ very interesting explanation of why she chose to set her books in this period of British history. Worth your time if you love history or historical books.
Prebble, as always, provides an excellent narration.

Satisfying Scandal that’s not a scandal.

Great story line for getting to know another Cynster. Richard and Catriona’s story was unique and a fun read. A fun, steamy love story.

This book includes male rape by the heroine

This book is based on the premise that raping a male by drugging and stimulating him in order to beget a child from him which you never intend to let him be a father to is acceptable

Smut

This could have been an interesting novel. The explicit sex encounters are so very prolonged they become boring.

What happened to the last 1/4 of the book???

After only barely mentioning the Cynster clan during the first 75% of the book, it's ALL family back-story the last 25%.

Boring!! Didn't even finish it.

Amazing narrator

I have always loved Bob Hoskins (Simon Prebble) and his narration in this book is wonderful as usual. The book it’s self however was OK. I still had seven hours left and since I did not find it stimulating I stopped listening to the book all-together. Not much of a storyline and what’s there is silly
