Publisher's summary

Her parents' death has left Kelsey Langton penniless - and responsible for the well-being of her younger sister, Jean. Kelsey knows that the only way to avert their doom is to allow herself to be sold at auction. Resigned to becoming the plaything of a well-heeled gentleman, she gets more than she bargained for.

Lord Derek Malory is the highest bidder - a dashing rakehell from a family of charming London rogues. Enthralled by the lovely young woman with shining eyes and dark hair, he purchases her to be his mistress, unaware of the true worth of his prize. He never imagined that this woman he so frivolously acquired would be blessed with all the attributes he was looking for in a wife - grace, wit, intelligence, as well as beauty. He certainly never expected to fall in love.

lovely story

I have read many of her novels and enjoyed them all...I am completely disappointed.. and appalled!... at the change in language. I cannot understand why the narrator has chosen to use terrible Grammer (for characters who would have received the best of education??). I found the ridiculousness of it distracting... and completely inappropriate!

Beautiful story terrible narrator

Another slam dunk for Miss Lindsey in the Mallory Anderson series. It was a pleasure reading this book again a decade later. Note for the new reader: I suggest you read the actual book as I hate to say that the narrator for this particular title is terrible. It's most unfortunate that the narrator assumed that pretentiousness and snobbery should be conveyed in his dialect when speaking for not only the main hero but also former main Heroes. I don't believe he did his work in reading Miss Lindsay's previous books as oddly enough he managed to give Percy a rather charming and charismatic voice given what we know about his character. This narration really and truly detracts from the beautiful romance and storyline within which includes a captivating and daring rescue from a depraved sexual deviant so beware - trigger warning. But please note there is a satisfying twist for the reader. I still strongly recommend this series including this book which has been a favorite for years.

Magical

Where does Say You Love Me rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is in my top 3 category.

What other book might you compare Say You Love Me to and why?

The Present, also by Johanna Lindsey. The Mallory series is exciting, inviting, gloriously amusing & yes satisfies the romantic in us.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

My only quirk with some audio books is the narrator. I do wish they would record it more in the style of the book. For example: instead of having 1 woman trying to disguise her voice as 4 different male characters & 4 to 6 female characters, why don't they have a man and woman record the book. This narrator makes the men come across scruffy & undignified when the men are actually "Lords" who would speak with a proper English accent, not a lower class accent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Love see's through barriers.

Any additional comments?

Johanna Lindsey is extremely detailed in her writing & never makes you wonder or leaves you figuring out the backstory of each character yourself because she provides you with such marvelous and often humorous descriptions herself.

Mallory series

I love all the Mallory family stories! Their family dynamic is so fun and upbeat. The narrator was male so it was kind of interesting listening to this kind of romance novel read in a man's voice! But he did an excellent job!

Narrator terrible

The story was great but the narrator was difficult to bear. The different voices for the various characters were almost childish in presentation. One of the worse I have heard.

Good story, distracting narrator

I will have to agree with other reviewers. Though this was a good story overall, the narrator was distracting. He made the characters sound so annoying. At one point I did want to just skip this book all together.

thrilling!

Where does Say You Love Me rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I don't agree with the bad reviews. I love the evil character along the lines of the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo " villan and having an Egor-like side kick as Dr. Frankenstein would employ. Although the evil doings were softened up a bit and not so horrific but bad enough. I had to to listen to this book until the end. As I was not familiar with this series, I read this one first and realized there were more. I then started at the top and got to know the other characters.
