Publisher's summary

After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past and to the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

Holly learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, Adam is the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.

For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate will have its share of risks - including opening their hearts one more time.

Gave this one a Four

I read these out of order. As a matter of fact, I read this one first which is why started on the others. Even though I'm not a pet lover, I enjoyed it. More bite to it than Book 3. Love listening to Karen White. I am debating on jumping to Book 5--had good reviews, but Book 3 was a bit silly if you ask me.

Ok but, formulaic and overused tropes

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book is kind of blah. It's fine if you have it on in the background and have nothing better to do, but don't take time away from other things. It's like food that will satisfy your basic needs but is not incredibly delicious or nutritious. In general, the writer overuses the former military guy trope. I don't know why so many romance heros have to be former military, but they use it as a kind of cheat so they don't have to develop the character. Military mission gone bad = deep and complicated character.

As I said about the previous book, I would not have made the main character half Native American. The only purpose his ancestry seems to serve is to make him hot/exotic. It does nothing to really further the story line and it's not like the author shows any understanding of the culture in the writing. Again, lazy writing.

Back to Sunshine, Idaho.

A sweet romance, with a few funny parts. My favorite part was when Holly was listening to an audiobook. Third in the series and similar to the others, but not my favorite. Easy to kill time but the story was just okay. I would be willing to listen to the next book but only if there is a sale. Narrator was good.

Must love Puppies

What made the experience of listening to Rescue My Heart the most enjoyable?
the closeness of the brothers comes through when listening

Who was your favorite character and why?
when Del and our hero Adam are helping to nurse young puppies with milk bottles, this will steal your heart

What does Karen White bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ms White reads Julie James books, and I got hooked on her "hey" "what" tone of voice. She really can interpretate the authors works. I looked up her reads and found Animal brother series. All three books will steal your heart

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
All three books bring out the adventure in a persons heart.

Fun.

Very enjoyable read and series. Light and funny. Plus Karen a white is a fabulous comedic narrator. Possibly the best.
