Publisher's summary

Up until Travis arrived on his doorstep, Charlie had lived a very solitary life. He had surrounded himself with isolation; a couple million acres of red dirt, scorching sun, and loneliness. Six months on, winter has settled over the desert, and Charlie has the life he never dreamed possible. But living and working together, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for six months straight starts to take its toll. Charlie is a stubborn, stubborn man, who tends to have more conversations in his head than what comes out his mouth, whereas Travis has no problem saying what's on his mind. And even as they both struggle to communicate, struggle to make sense of need versus want, Charlie can see that he's pushing Travis away - yet seems helpless to stop it. When it all boils down to whether Travis should stay or go, maybe the decision won't be theirs to make.

Gaah! Travis and Charlie!❤❤❤❤❤

Loved Loved loved book two as much as the first book. I am so in awe of NR Walker. What a rich experience it is to read (listen) to her beautiful tales. Joel Leslie is the perfect choice to perform and give life into these beloved characters. ❤️ The way this writer builds such a vivid world without bogging down the story...the dialog was touching funny heartbreaking and authentic....and peeling back the layers of a lifetime of hurt and abandonment while keeping the characters true to themselves and not sacrificing their masculinity because "didn't fancy women" was brilliant. And Travis and Charlie...sigh. .with Matilda.... then Nugget. OMG! I don't want to spoil anything but Charlie's showdown was epic! NR Walker and Joel Leslie thank you!

could this book be any better?!?

Would you listen to Red Dirt Heart 2 again? Why?

Absolutely. It is not a reading, but an amazing performance.

What did you like best about this story?

NR Walker's depiction of an Aussie outback farmer finding love with a Texan rancher is toe-curlingly gorgeous. Both men are vulnerable, yet strong. The characterization is flawless.

Which character – as performed by Joel Leslie – was your favorite?

Joel Leslie's depiction of Charlie is heart-wrenching and powerful. He also nails Travis and gives both men very distinct voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Red Dirt Blue Sky Hot Love

Any additional comments?

Holy moses, Joel Leslie's performance just about kills me! The emotion, the heartache, the sex scenes--what a performance! An already amazing book turned into an outstanding experience. And Red Dirt Heart 3 audiobook is waiting on my Audible account, so another nearly 9 hours of top notch entertainment!

Can't get enough of Joel Leslie!!!!

Just when I didn't think anything could top Joel Leslie's narration of Red Dirt Heart, I started listening to RDH 2 and was proven wrong within the first chapter. First of all, his voice is to-die-for. I love hearing him bounce between Charlie's voice and Travis's. And his Ma simply cracks me up. I just can't get enough of him. Joel does such a wonderful job narrating this book, I can't help but stay in my car to hear just one more minute. And once again, he brought me to tears, between Charlie's heartfelt declaration to Travis and Billy's speech at the Immigration Office, I couldn't stop the tears running down my cheeks.

NR Walker is just the…

…best storyteller. And with the pairing of Joel Leslie as narrator, the words just jump off the page and spring to life. Vol 2 of this series is heaps better than Vol 1–more interesting, more compelling and we’re starting to truly fall in love with our protagonists, Trav and Charlie. Jumping into Vol. 3 immediately.

Travis sounds like Joel Osteen

really good story of live triumphing over life's trouble, and life on the Australian outback

The story continues and doesn't disappoint

There are times a story is best left as a stand alone book but not this one. As Charlie and Travis get comfortable in their relationship stessers start to invade their happiness. between Nr Walker and Joel Leslie you will need a box of kleenex to wipe tears and wipe up when you laugh so hard your drink comes out your nose.

I love this series

I love Charlie and Travis. Poor Charlie is still waiting for his world to crumble. It’s a wonder he doesn’t have an ulcer as much has he worries about everything. What the other farmers will say, if Travis is going to leave him, etc. I am so happy to see that he finally leaves the closet in this one and tells all the homophobs off. Travis has such a wicked sense of humor. The scene at Woolworth’s had me laughing out loud. I can’t wait to see where this series takes us next.

In love

I'm in love with this series. I love the fact it goes beyond the initial attraction/getting together stage and delves in to the actual relationship development. Beautifully written. This one seems to suffer less from a US editing than the last one. I'm going to be seeking out more by this author.
This narrator brings a lot to the story. It's just a pity his Northern Territory accent is off. While it could possibly pass for east coast it's definitely not NT outback. It also ages the character a little. Some of his vowel sounds are completely off (e.g. verandah, barramundi, and the cardinal sin: Aussie). Luckily his performance makes up for most of it. Just not the Aussie. He loses two stars for miss-pronouncing Aussie in an Australian accent. 😒😤
