Publisher's summary

Out of the wickedly inventive imagination of number-one New York Times best-selling author J.R. Ward comes a world where sin and salvation collide in a battle for the future of mankind - where a cynical fallen angel struggles against the seven deadly sins and a demon's lure over seven chosen souls....

Mels Carmichael, reporter for the Caldwell Courier Journal, gets the shock of her life when a man stumbles in front of her car outside the local cemetery. After the accident, his amnesia is just the kind of mystery she likes to solve, but she soon discovers they're in over their heads with his past. Over their heads with passion, too...

As shadows walk the line between reality and another realm, and her lover's memory begins to come back, the two of them learn that nothing is truly dead and buried. Especially when youre trapped in a no-holds-barred war between angels and demons. With a soul on the line, and Mels's heart at risk, what in Heaven - or in Hell - will it take to save them both?

Narration is TOO FAST!!! Why the rush?

I'm so MAD! Who was the genius who thought that speeding up this narration was a good idea? I've listened to the first hour and had to go back several times because I couldn't follow what's going on! I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks and this has never happened to me before. So far it seems like the book is one big paragraph without punctuation because the narrator is just rushing through. There's one part at the beginning where Mathias is supposed to be reflecting the bad things he's done in his life and it goes so fast that it almost sounds like the legal disclaimer in medication ads. I'm tired just listening. (Not blaming Eric Dove who did an amazing job with the previous books but the producer or whomever makes those decisions.)

I woke up at 5am on the book release day and the first thing I did was check Audible to see if the audio was available. I checked several times during the day and bought it as soon as I saw it - didn't even bother listening to the sample because I loved the previous 3 books. BIG MISTAKE! If you compare the narration of the first 3 books with this one, you can tell there's definitely something wrong. All the other books are around 500 pgs. in print and around 14 hrs. hours in audio...how can this book have the same number of pages but be almost 2 hrs. shorter?

Somebody fixes this or I'm returning this book. I just bought this audio because I loved the narration...if this SUCKS, then I'm definitely not reading this in print.

(Rating is due to the speed of the narration...if I understood what was happening, maybe I could rate the story more appropriately.)

Changed to slower speed on my iPod

The narration was way too fast. I changed the audiobook setting on my iPod to "slower" and it was perfect. I could not listen to it at the speed that was downloaded. Can audible ask the source to correct the speed?

Slow Down!

Would you try another book from J. R. Ward and/or Eric Dove?

Yes, his previous narration was great. His voice is smooth and cool.

If you’ve listened to books by J. R. Ward before, how does this one compare?

Not as good. I need a speed button.

What didn’t you like about Eric Dove’s performance?

Eric is awesome but the narration speed was too fast. It made me feel anxious so I could not enjoy the book.

Thank you fellow Audible listeners

What happened??? I was so excited about this book (as I LOVED all 3 previous installments) and Eric Dove is my favorite narrator. Once I started listening I was so disappointed! What was wrong with this book? I thought I was being too critical until I started reading other reviews from my fellow Audible listeners. Thank goodness I am not alone! The audio is too fast and confusing. It completely ruined the story and the enjoyment of listening to Eric Dove for me. It was a struggle to finish this book.

They ruined Eric Dove's narration!!

I have bought the other 3 books in this series, and listened to them, other than reading them, solely on Eric Dove's narration. I was so looking forward to this book, they are all so good. Then, right off the bat, Eric seemed to be speeding through the dialog so fast, that I could hardly recognize his voice.
I listened to samples of the other books, and sure enough, it just wasn't the same. So, I read some of the other reviews, and found out that I'm not alone in this complaint! One listener suggested slowing down the pace on the ipod, so that's what I ended up doing. It didn't sound perfect, cause it kinda sounded like listening through a speaker system. But, it was better than speeding my way through the book. Ms. Ward's lines are so cleaver, that you just need to listen to them slowly, and that is what Eric does with the other books. I don't exactly know how, it can be remedied, but I hope they work it out before the next book. I think on book 5, I'll wait for a few reviews, before buying it on audio.
Otherwise, I loved the book,.

Love this series, but not my favorite IN the serie

In this, the 4th installment of the Fallen Angels, JR Ward shocked me once again at the lines she dares to cross...but what AMAZES me is when the woman does it, and makes me LIKE it, and want more. She could spoon feed me these books that kill every romance paradigm I think I know.

I'm NOT going to tell you who the hero is...but I am going to tell you that I didn't even realize that the Ward camp had done such a damn good job of covering up until I started listening to the book an realized who it WAS. They didn't make a big deal out of it. The didn't hush/hush and whisper. I FREAKED ~ literally. And no ONE, no WHERE was talking about it. Still aren't much...I love it!

So you have to get your own copy, peeps...but be prepared!!

While this book IS filled with awesomeness & of course we get our up close & personal w/ Davina, everyone's favorite OCD Demon w/ an YSL obsession, this book came down a few notches in tone from the last. It's a little darker, things are getting more tense, the situation is getting dicier and Jim Heron is wondering just what the hell he's in the middle of...and IS there really a GOOD side?

IF you follow the series ~ and I seriously warn you, this is a MUST read in order series ~ you know that some bad, bad things have happened to Jim's camp of late. But a little light is being shed, the playing field is being evened out some, and I'm ready for the next book...

I really must share again with you guys this series has overtaken the BDB for me. I have high hopes for Qhuay's book, but I'm into this struggle between bad and good, and IS there pure good and pure evil? And Davina is totally a riot, even while being a rotted out bitch. Ward's character depiction is actually full of flaws, and isn't that what makes them so awesome?

I have to mention that the narrator for this book, Eric Dove, is an EXCELLENT narrator ~ he does Jim's voice SO well. Sexy!

And his rendition of Ad and Eddie is awesome as well. I've mentioned before that I speed up the narration on my audio books usually, but for this one, apparently the company that made it sped it up...it was almost TOO fast. I missed Dove's sexy pauses and inflictions in many places, and felt they rushed him through this book. Not sure what was up with that, but not up to the same standard as the first 3, but still a great listen.

Who Sped Up the Narrator?????

Ok, I'm mad as !•*! First the producing studios ruin 50 Shades with a pitiful narrator. Now the recording studio has cranked up the speed on my FAVORITE author's Newest book.

I have tried 3 times to listen to Rapture and cannot keep up with the storyline. This wonderful narrator's voice is running at nearly twice the normal speed. Please Audible, demand the publisher remaster this story. I love this series and this narrator. What a financial injustice for the author, narrator and Audible/Amazon. I have over 300 audio books so I know it isn't my inability to listen to an audio book.

I will now go download the book to my Kindle and do this the old fashion way...Read it!

Rapture

I think this might be my favorite yet, the redemption that happens in this book really called out to me.
Matthias wasn’t a good person, and he knew his fate. What I loved is that he accepted it and was going to pay the price but before he does he has the chance to do good. He had the choice.
THE CHOICE!

I think what I loved was he was already on his path and then Mel happens and poof a real honest to god good woman, and he wants to do right by her. Even if that means never seeing her again.
My heart can’t take this kind of swoon. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it!

Eric’s narration is really starting to grow on me. I guess it just took me so many books to appreciate him.

I REALLY REALLY WANTED TO LIKE BOOK 4 BUT...

OK - Apart from the speed, which was fast but I could keep up with it all, it was just a bit flat. Jim, who is meant to be the MAIN character, was missing for a lot of the book so the chemistry between him and the soul to be saved seemed to be non existent. Coupled with this, the actual story seemed to be slow.

It took a long time to 'get into' but towards the end of Part One things started to look up and Ms. Ward's quick witted writing style is very impressive and the story moves the whole battle along with another flag being won.... but wow what a twist at the end.

Worth a Credit? It's a must have for J.R.Ward's fans who have been following the Fallen Angels series so it has to be a YES even though I only gave it 3 stars - so please bring back to the foreground Jim and Dog and all will be forgiven.
