Publisher's summary

Their name is Raintree. It's more than a last name, more than a notation on a family tree. It's a mark of destiny. Each family member has a special gift, an otherworldly talent.

Gideon Raintree, a homicide detective, can harness electricity and talk to ghosts. He will need to wield gifts he's kept hidden to solve his newest case, which involves a relentless serial killer unleashed by the dark Ansara wizards. But first he must deal with his reaction to Hope Malory, his alluring new partner. He'd never planned on love in the midst of battle. With evil lurking at every turn, Gideon and Hope are in a race against time to save their love, their family, and their newly conceived child.

Better than the first!

I really enjoyed this book, from the magic to the romance to the suspense. It was unputdownable!

One thing I like about Linda Howard is that she's not afraid to get her heroines pregnant and use that to good effect. But she outdid herself this time, with the spirit of the not-yet-born baby coming to haunt her daddy in the first chapter, letting him know she was coming soon. I won't spoil how it all played out, but in a word: awesome.

I really recommend this book. It's better than the first, which I thought was good and showed promise, but felt abrupt, with the end coming too son. The pacing of this book felt much better, and all the elements just came together.

I highly recommend, and can' wait to read the next one!

What you'd expect from a Harlequin

Well, as long as you know what you're getting before you purchase this, it's not that bad. It's published by Harlequin which basically sums up the story.

There is some supernatural in it, and some detective stuff, (sort of)... but essentially it's a Harlequin Romance novel: man and woman meet, fall in love within 3 days, lots of sex, lots of "how can we make this work with my magic powers/job/history/interference from ghosts...", a little bit of story.

The narration isn't bad. For some reason, though, rather than have the male reader read male parts and the female reader read female parts, they just alternate back and forth (no real pattern to why) so sometimes the female is reading male and vice versa... you do get used to it, but it seems strange.

For a fantasy/scifi or a detective story it's worth 2.5 stars, for a Harlequin it's worth 4.

I am loving Raintree!

I have to agree with another reviewer. This one was even better than the Linda Howard one. Great narration. A good story. Can't wait to read Sanctuary next!

SUPRISE!!!

While waiting for the next "series" books to come out, I stumbled across the raintree series. Halfway thru the 1st book, I was letting everyone in my circle know that they must purchase this series. Action, Love, the Fumbles of Love, Family, and Excitement. What more could you ask for?

Seriously?

Any additional comments?

The female narrator is just terrible. When Gideon talks his voice is her's. She doesn't even attempt to sound manly. And the male has a beautiful, low and sexy voice but his women's voices suck. What is the point of having 2 narrators if they do both voices. I'm so disappointed. I'm turning this back in for a refund. I'll just read the rest of the book.
Bummer!

Stefan stikes again!

Another story I found because Stefan Rudnicki was the reader. His voice makes me shiver. He could read a grocery list and I would be sold. Ok so it does have to be an interesting story to hold my attention. This one is fun and romantic paranormal story.
Makes me want to believe in the paranormal. Good read! Fun Story and great reader!

Good sequel

This book is the sequel to "Inferno: Raintree" written by Linda Howard. Plot development and execution in this book was significantly improved from the first book in the series.

Linda Winstead Jones is a long time writer for serial-type books (i.e. Harlequin) and she does it well. The author is slighly disadvantaged that she is writing the second in a series but she didn't create the plot nor did she write the first book in the series. That being said, she did a nice job progessing the plot as well as developing the characters. The heroine was likable and had characteristics of an average person - nothing that was remotely unusual in her actions.

The female reader did a very good job and brought the character to life. My compliant with the male reader was that it was the same from the first book in the series but it was a different character! If you haven't listened to the first book, you wouldn't notice or care. However, most people who purchase this audiobook will have listened to "Raintree" first and noticed this. Not a terrible thing but not a great thing for an audiobook. Us listeners tend to notice things like this and it struck me as odd that the production staff would do this.

I would definately recommend this book and the author. The female reader wasn't familiar to me but I would listen to her again.

Raintree: haunted

Second book I've read for Raintree (first on Raintree: Inferno. Just as great as the first. Loved it. My compliments to the author.
