Publisher's summary

Two hundred years after the Raintree clan defeated and abandoned them on a small Caribbean Island, the Ansara wizards are rising again to take on their bitterest foes. Despite their extraordinary powers and supernatural origin, the Raintree have largely blended into the modern world. They are bankers, cops, husbands, wives, and lovers in the society of humankind. But now, from Nevada to North Carolina, the rejoined battle will measure the endurance of their people. It will test their loyalties and relationships. And it will force them all into new lives they could barely have imagined before.

Good story

I really enjoyed this book. I didn't give it a 5 star because I wish that it had been a little longer and that it hadn't ended quite so quickly. I really liked it and can't wait to listen to the next book on the series.

Confused

Ok this is a series with a different author and narrators for each of the 4 books? What’s going on here?! As for book 1. I found it interesting and entertaining so far. I have about 1hr left so I’ve read it will end abruptly. It took a while for me to get used to the female narrator. When she does the voice of the female main character she sounds like a woman over 40 with a heavy smoking habit who waitresses in a hole in the wall diner. She just sounds soooo unattractive. How old is she supposed to be anyway? I totally missed that. And When she’s narrating her voice is more pleasant so I have no idea why she decided to voice the character this way. Now I’m totally confused about the next 3 books. Any explanation why it’s all different authors? Audible escape books are usually bottom of the barrel and takes a while to find something good. I usually borrow 5 at a time and end up returning 4 after trying out a few chapters. Plus doesn’t it suck that you have like 5k books in your search and have to start out at page 1 each time?! They should have it numbered where you’re able to pick out a search point. I’m prob gonna stop audible escape soon.

Good Escapism

This is the type book you listen to just to relax and be entertained. I am looking forward to the other two in series.

Good story, but...

What the h***! Where is the rest of the book? I am disappointed particularly when I started to really enjoy the story. If this is the type of "cliffhanger" these books are...I'd rather not listen to the book at all. The female narrator's voice was the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard because she made the female character so whiny. I've given the story 3 stars only because of the story line. What a waste of a credit. >:(

female narrator

Great Linda Howard, great start to a series. My only complaint is the female narrator's nasallly voice to convey irritation. It ruined what is one of my favorite books. The male narration is great.

Interesting but difficult

I enjoyed this story but the voice of the female narrator is whiney and grating. I found myself wanting to listen but cringing at the sound of the voice. I'm definately looking forward to the next story and thrilled its not the same narrator.

Classic Paranormal Linda Howard

Audible Escape
Sorry this book is not for me. When it was first written, I did purchase it but never actually read it. Now on Audible, I still can not spend the time. I am not a Hillary Huber fan, but Stefan Rudnicki was very good, just not enough chapters. Well, I stopped at chapter 2 as Ms Huber gets on my nerves. I applaud Ms Howard for trying new genres when she wrote this book. If you love Sci Fi or paranormal give this book a try. Ms Howard is still a good writer.

Great First Story for a Trilogy Series

I first physically read this book (and the other two books in the Raintree series). I liked the print versions so much I decided to listen to the audio format. I enjoyed Stefan Rudnicki's voice but I found Hillary Huber's voice incredibly annoying. Her voice sounded much older than that of the character and it had a whiny, grating, smoker's tinge to it. I had a negative reaction every time she spoke. I rarely write disparaging comments, because it is probably difficult to get narrator work in a competitive field, but I want to let prospective listeners know that they might not like the female narrator.
