Publisher's summary

K is a fourth level Paladin and a servant of Purity - the holy nothingness she has been taught to revere and aspire to from childhood. Born on a sexless world from an artificial womb, K was fitted with a black mesh skinsuit at the tender age of nine. The suit nourishes and defends her from enemies and serves as her main weapon in the holy war her people have declared on the rest of the universe. It also eradicates even the slightest traces of emotion. Leading her purge squad in a never-ending mission to rid the universe of the Impure, K is accustomed to killing or enslaving everyone she meets.

That is, until she meets Boone.

Boone is a doctor and geneticist from Colossus - a heavy G world which has rendered the people who inhabited it larger and stronger than regular humans. He's more than happy to stay on his own planet and do research - until his little sister is taken by Purists and delivered to the pshalite mines. Frantic to rescue her, he hatches a desperate plot - capture a Paladin and use the enemy pawn to gain access to where his sister is being held. K falls into his net - but not without a fight. When she is wounded in the battle, Boone is forced to cut off her skinsuit in order to save her life.

Now, removed from her comforting routine and separated from the parasitic suit, K is beginning to change. Her body is blossoming and her mind is opening. For the first time in her life she can feel...whether she wants to or not. In order to survive in her new environment she has to cooperate with Boone.

However, she soon finds that it isn't just her body he holds prisoner...but also her heart.

Worth All Five Stars!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I loved this story, and will recommend it to my friends. It was a great Sci-Fi romance with a unique plot and great characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Boone. For being considered a "giant," he was so patient with "K", and helped her learn to love and have feelings.

Which character – as performed by William Martin – was your favorite?

William did a awesome job narrating this story but his best character was Boone. I loved how deep and patient Boone sounded.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! When I first started listening to the story it was not what I expected, and that's really what I loved about "Purity", and why I gave the story five stars.

Any additional comments?

Evangeline is so creative with her stories, and she is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I look forward to more audiobooks, but hope we do not have to wait long. :-)

This story was well worth my credit!

Very good unique storyline

This was a good and very different plot. The characters were so very well developed. I was also impressed the this book was not inundated was sex and overly explicit scenes.

The book opens itself to understanding what can happen when man thinks they play God by irradiating those emotions they think make mankind weak. There is something so perfect about being imperfect.

Why do I listen to people...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I'm so disappointed, again, that other people's view of quality doesn't reflect my own. I know that's selfish but credits are expensive and the purpose of the ratings is to help listener's make good buying choices. This was not a good buying choice. The story had potential but dragged on and on for, seemingly, no other reason than to annoy me.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I think I'm done with this genre after this. I don't know what I'll listen to next. Maybe I'll go back to Jacqueline Carey. At least she can world and character build.

Which character – as performed by William Martin – was your favorite?

He was good but what he had to work with was crap. I can't say which was favorite since the dialog was so bad.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Absolutely not unless they brought in someone to rewrite.

Any additional comments?

Nope!

Written Perfectly!!

I will let it be known that this story has graphic sexual content and you should be age appropriate to read or listen to this story.

I really enjoyed this story by Evangeline Anderson. I won't lie either and I was worried it would be filled with too much sex content but this story didn't. I think it had one sex scene in the entire story and I thought it was a perfect story to listen to. This story is more sci-fi than anything really. I don't want to spoil it so I'm not one to give details away in any review. You just have to read or listen to it for yourself to understand just how good this authors writing is. This story shows what a vivid imagination this author has. This you must discover for yourself.

I think William Martin did a really good job with the narration of this story. I think there were some parts that could've been a little better but as I listened on it just came together. I had no trouble at all distinguishing accents and I was able to identify each and every character who spoke throughout this story. I would listen to this narrator again. Overall, a perfect 5 star rating from me!

Great Listen!!

Would you listen to Purity again? Why?

I would definitely listen again. This was an interesting story that really kept my attention from beginning to end. I was really captivated by Boone and K's relationship as it changed.

What other book might you compare Purity to and why?

The setting is similar to others by this author since it is set in a alien/futuristic type environment. It takes place at a time when Earth as we know it no longer exists and the ancestors have moved on to other planets and evolved in various ways.

Which character – as performed by William Martin – was your favorite?

I really loved Boone's character. He was a favorite from the beginning for me.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Otherworldly Hot Romance!!

Any additional comments?

Although I probably wouldn't have chosen this book based on the summary I am glad I did. It was so good and gave me the HEA that I need from my romances. It also had some nice sex scenes that gave me my erotica fix but at a good pace that helped enhance the story. Great read for sure and I look forward to the other books coming in this series.

Great steamy story line, good narration

I read the book first and then listened to the audiobook at a later date. I love the storyline and the audiobook is very good. The characters are well developed and very likable. Boone is a very patient and tender hero. K is a strong heroine with vulnerabilities, but she doesn't come across as whiny. The storyline progresses naturally and is fast paced enough to grab and keep your attention throughout the book. I generally prefer female narrations as there is more range in their voices; however, William Martin was very easy to listen to. The only reason I rated the performance a 4/5 is because there were some times the narrations was too soft-spoken and I had to adjust the volume back and forth to hear everything. There were also times that it was hard to differentiate the characters by voice as there wasn't a large range in his voice which was confusing for a few moments in the book. His Boone-voice is very sexy and gruff. Overall, the book is another successful steamy romance with a lot of action/adventure by Evangeline Anderson and I would definitely purchase further books/audiobooks by this author and would listen to William Martin again. I really hope that there will be a sequel to this book!

Very original

****** Spoiler alert *****
It was a very good story and plot was original. Great start to a new series. There are so many characters I can't wait to hear more about. My only issue with the story is that it seemed as if when Boone met K and he just totally forgot who and what she was. He "kidnapped" her and let her go almost instantly even though she swore to kill him. He was supposed to have her suit as leverage to make her help him save his sister, he gave it back with no thought of his sister or her helping him. He focused on her and his sister was the furthest thing from his mind. If K wasn't a woman of her word he would have never saw his sister again. Other than that it was a really good story. I can't wait to hear what's next.

Awesome

I disliked it at first, The book seemed kind of odd It kind of jumped in the middle of things but it started to make sense A couple of chapters into it. I liked that love conquers all and exciting hurdles that the main characters have to overcome to get to that point. All in all I would recommend it to all my friends it's a good read.

LOVED THIS ONE!!!

I could not get enough of this one. There may not be a lot of sexual scenes, but the innocent foreplay that goes on between K and Boone and then intensifies as the story goes is just as good. I could not stop laughing at the scene with Boone, Loki and Sweetie! OMG! I have never laughed so hard at an audio book. The narrator does an unbelievable job with everyone. Especially Loki! As always, Evangeline does an exceptional job with describing everything and with the Narrator putting his own "flare" for Loki and everyone else is the icing on the cake. Evangeline has become my favorite author. Absolutely love her creativity and story lines.

I wish I had bought this month ago!

Would you listen to Purity again? Why?

Yes. I even thought about that during the last chapter! I always catch more things the second time around, and this was so well written I know I'd appreciate more during another listen.

What other book might you compare Purity to and why?

Vaguely like The League series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, in the sense that inter-planet relations is common, and that there's a big, bad group of people seeking to dominate the universe. On the other hand, the big baddie is completely different, based on a religious sect rather than straight militia.

Which scene was your favorite?

Pretty much everything with Loki, but when they're hunting Sweetie is probably the best. It's a turning point in the book, but Loki made me laugh out loud a few times.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the last quarter of the book is full of those moments. K coming to terms with her emotions is kind of spread out over the chapters, but each time I liked her more and more.

Any additional comments?

I held off on spending my credit on this one for months, simply because I tend to stray away from the alpha female leads in romances, and I was afraid this would end up some kind of cheesy alien romance. I was wrong. SO wrong.

The Purists are humans that find emotions abhorrent and touch is considered contamination. They breed artificially by cloning, birthed in science labs and raised by mechanoids. They are literally never touched by another human, and are raised to feel nothing (not even fear or love). They don't even eat real food, but nutritional paste and drinks. They are fitted with biochemical skinsuits as children that give nutrients later on, heal them, clean them, give them sedatives to sleep, stimulants to stay awake, and dampen their emotions. They literally never remove them once donned. These suits are fitted with weapons and are even neuro-controlled, all to help them eradicate the "impure" inhabitants of the universe.

K is a commander of a group of Paladins whose duty is to purge the impure, but things go sideways when they attack a small Arian (spelling on that?) vessel. Boone set himself up for attack, hoping to capture one of the Paladins in order to rescue his sister, who was enslaved bu the Purists on a mining planet. By removing K's suit, he unknowingly sets off a chain reaction of emotions and hormones no one expected.

The romantic part of the story is a slow-building one, but I found myself not caring about steamy scenes at all during this (and I love my book porn, mind you). Everything is so well written, and the world(s) planned out so well, that I was captivated from the get-go. Even the Arian race, which is basically sex and touch-fueled people, was made to sound believable and even reasonable (and I've read/listened to a few alien romances that made me want to gag with the sex-obsession).

The only thing wrong that I could possibly point out is that the narrator mispronounced two or three words, but they were common mispronunciations (saying chitinous as chai-tin-us instead of kite-in-us, stuff like that). Other than those words, I think he was the perfect fit for this book, and he did a very good job portraying separate characters (I especially loved Loki's effeminate voice).
