Publisher's summary

"I'm on trial for my life. Falsely accused of infecting my human ex-boyfriend - and killing him to cover up the crime. Infecting a human is one of three capital offenses recognized by the Pride - along with murder and disclosure of our existence to a human.

"I'm two for three. A goner.

"Now we've discovered a rogue stray terrorizing the mountainside, hunting a wild teenage tabbycat. It's up to us to find and stop him before a human discovers us. With my lover Marc's help, I think I can protect the vulnerable girl from both the ambitious rogue and the scheming of the territorial council.

Good sequel

I liked the first couple of books in the series, but I think Pride and Prey (the sequel to Pride) are the best so far. Yes, the lead character is angry and doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut - but it really doesn't detract from the overall story, which was more involved here, and even more so as the plot continues on into the next book. If you enjoy supernatural sci-fi, you will enjoy these.

I LOVED this book

Bought for Myself
Read for the BBA Series Challenge
Overall Rating 4.75
Audio Rating 4.50
Story Rating 4.75
Character Rating 4.75

Note: Hard to believe a series that I barely stuck with after the first book because of not liking the heroin has come such a long way! I LOVED this book and at this point I am totally hooked.

What I LOVED: Faythe has come a long way baby! I can honestly say that I really care what happens to her. The way she handled the 13 year old tabby is what really turned the tide for me. That entire storyline was magnificent. Pride really yanked at all my emotional heart strings. Faythe's dad has always been a favorite of mine. In Pride, he is absolutely, by far, my favorite character. What he does for his Pride and Faythe is just the epitome of true love and loyalty.

What I LIKED: I can't give anything away but I am trying to figure out where the Malone story is going. I know where I would like it to go (Paging Hannibal) but it is adding an extra layer of conflict that is interesting to see play out. The back and forth between Faythe and Marc is playing out slowly but I feel their connection. Their love story is secondary to me but truly important to the story. Marc is a fantastic character and a good representation of what is possible with a Stray. I really liked Keller, the bruin. I hope he shows up again through out the series.

Complaints: None

Why I gave is a 4.75: This book knocked me on my *ss and really pulled every emotion out of me. I can't wait to read the rest!

Rachel Vincent Amazing Book

I highly enjoyed reading this book and would incourage others to read it. Although it is better if read in order the books are excellent on their own and are easier to get into

Running With the Big Catz

This is one of the rare times I will say don't start the series with this book--go to the beginning and read up to this book or it won't make much sense. You could possibly read it on its own, but it will be so much more enjoyable if you know the history of the characters and their natures.

This particular addition to the series is quite a wild ride as Faythe is on trial in this one, and she still can't manage to keep her mouth shut and behave. Poor girl. At least she's true to her nature. I'll give her credit for that. But I don't know how her dad survives her. The plot is full-out emotion in one form or another for most of the story. There's a lot going on here, and now I can't wait to dig into the next one!

Nearly managed to finish listening to it.

Juvenile. Silly. A little Trashy but not too graphic. Basically this female quasi-cat is angry all the time, explodes into unthinking outbursts but we are still asked to believe that she is her wise father's choice to inherit the running of his clan and family and the choice mate of every male standing in the vicinity.

Faythe and her mouth

When we left our heroine she was in trouble for killing her ex-boyfriend in self defense. Of course this books picks up where that book left off. Here are a few of the highlights of the book.
1. Pride politics plays heavy.
2. A lot of strays are converging on this particular area.
3. There are several power plays to unseat Faythe's father from the council.
4. Romantically Faythe proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that she has not the brain to tie her shoes with.
I am not sure that I have ever given anything short of a five star in the series. Faythe has alway been best at surviving, by doing what was necessary Yet when her life is on the line to the council she cannot keep her damn mouth shut. Although she is known for her mouth, she is also known to bite her tongue when danger would make things worse. She doesn't which it too far out of character. Then she has tried to win back her Beau since the end of last book. When she is faced with her love being exiled she never even thinks, or tries to put the ring on(At least the right finger). To save his life!! This is not the Faythe of the previous books and few times has a character fallen so far outside herself without some development to explain the change.
I have always had an issue with characters acting outside their developmental curve. There was no reason, or stimuli to account for the unfaythe character inhabiting this book. Unless it was left out because of cuts to the book. I would recommend people choke through this one because I believe the next book will make amends for this book. The writing is spot on but the whole books just reads as a setup for the fourth. I am a large fan of this author, this showing is below her talents. I look forward to number four and hope the rest of the series performs better.

Long live Faythe and Mark!
