Payton Kendall and J. D. Jameson are lawyers who know the meaning of objection. A feminist to the bone, Payton has fought hard to succeed in a profession dominated by men. Born wealthy, privileged, and cocky, J. D. has fought hard to ignore her. Face-to-face, they're perfectly civil. They have to be. For eight years they have kept a safe distance and tolerated each other as coworkers for one reason only: To make partner at the firm.
But all bets are off when they're asked to join forces on a major case. Though apprehensive at first, they begin to appreciate each other's dedication to the law - and the sparks between them quickly turn into attraction. But the increasingly hot connection does not last long when they discover that only one of them will be named partner. Now it's an all-out war. And the battle between the sexes is bound to make these lawyers hot under the collar...

My current reading list has consisted of mostly dystopian/paranormal books and this was such a nice getaway. Julie James has the best method of blending together humor and romance without it getting overly cheesy. I found myself on more than one occasion busting out laughing and just giggling away at this book. It was the perfect light read to break up the monotony of my somber reading list!
I love witty, fast-paced books that keep you turning the page.
This story pits two lawyers against each other, competing for a partnership in their firm. It's exceptionally well written with characters you care for, a story line that moves along and has witty repartee. I would have given it 5 stars but I personally don't care for a story line that has a lot of conflict in it. This is a PG version of Julie James, not the steamy side you see in her FBI series. I highly recommend it.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
This story is one of the best in the series. Lots of humor and quick thinking.
Payton, knows how to laugh off a bad situation!
court room, when heel breaks...fast quick thinking and humor. When Payton has to give up
dairy for a month.
Let the better Lawyer win.
Julie James and Karen White make a great team. Ms White knows how to read Ms James work so well. You will get all the books in this series. These are romances with a legal background, but still romance stories.
Really loved the story and love the author. The only thing that bothered me was the accent of the character Jasper. Not everyone from Florida has an accent. Especially people who live in Palm Beach. The voice sounded like Foghorn Leghorn!
I'm usually a big fan of this author but this book was so slow and some of it I found juvenile! Most people in a work place do not act immature like these two! The ending was good but the first 3/4 of the book not good!
Simply perfect. I love Julie James. Her humor is so much like mine. Nobody does fast, witty and oh so smart banter like her. Kudos!!
Julie James always starts with attractive young men and women, adds a splash of irony and humor, shakes the mix well and presents us with another sweet story of attraction and love. There are four of these slightly interconnected stories, and characters from one story show up in the others. Fun and romantic, these stories are light and satisfying reading or uh, listening.
This story felt a little rushed to me and the plot line is as plausible as some of her others. She has much books if you want to try her out.
The narrator does a good job with the material
Thought this was part of her US Attorney Series ... it's not. Normally I like her books, but I listened to "Bluegrass Baby" last month and it's virtually the same story. The professions are different - same storyline, but "Bluegrass Baby" is funny and has a more believable setup.
