She's a mortal cursed with dark power....
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: a terrifying ability to channel electricity and to see a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude ... until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire.
He's the Prince of Night....
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all - but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him: a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, passion ignites, threatening to consume them. It will take everything they have to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

This book is really really good, sexy and funny and she is the perfect girl for vlad, I love vlad, BUT why did it end like this?? AND WHY is it the next one so far away??? SUCH A TEASER BOOK!!! I wish she would put out a really huge book or atleast 2 or 3 books out at the same time... LOVE LOVE J. FROST books, especially the narrator. She is one of my favs.
BEST NARRATOR EVER!!!!
With awesome writer Jeaniene Frost and amazing narrator Tavia Gilbert are a match made in heaven. All the action, passion, and comedy that was written by Ms. Frost in all of her books, including Once Burned, just bursts to life with Ms. Gilbert reading them. I love how we get to know new characters while they are dealing with our old favorite ones. If Once Burned is your first choice of Jeaniene's library you'll love the action and laughs. Since we need to wait for book 2, use your time to get into The Night Huntress novels.
This book got me hooked and I had trouble putting it down. The story was refreshing differant then some of the other books based on vanpires in the POV was not based soley on sex. The charector developement was rich as was the story line which was also fast paced and interesting.I can not wait to read the second book in this series. Also the narrations was excellent and had no trouble with Tavia doing males vioces with accents.
I LOVE Vlad. I always have. Throughout all of the huntress novels, Vlad was a constant in his reactions, his seriousness and his truth. I love how we get to see the vulnerable side of him in this story. I can only say that I am disappointed with the ending...but only because I don't think I can wait until she finishes the next book in the Night Prince Series! As is customary, Bones and Cat and some of the others make an appearance and what an appearance it is! Leila is a wonderful leading lady and she definitely give Vlad a run for his money! I look forward to watching their "friendship/relationship" bloom!
Tavia Gilbert, once again, does an impressive job with her narration!
I enjoyed Vlads story and I can not wait to read the next installment Tavia Gilbert was excellent again! and the plot was never boring. So A++ for Jeaniene Frost once again.
Scalding Electric Comfortable
Vlad - he is so matter of fact, a man who does what he promises. Leila is an excellent Heroine she is very competent like Cat.
Tavia Gilbert is an expert Narrator and she excels at male voices, she does Vlad very well.
I listened to this book in two days! It is very compelling
My only 2 gripes are that this book is too short, and I wished Leila sounded different to Cat. Looking forward to the next one.
I have always loved Vlad in the "Night Huntress" series, and was looking forward to a whole book of Vlad. Having said that, I was kinda disappointed in the book, because a small amount of Vlad seems to be better. He's very witty, and mysterious in the "Night Huntress" series, and unattached (which makes him so much sexier). This book seems to couple him up; like Ms. Frost has done with her other mysterious characters, thus making them less appealing. Part of what made the "Night Huntress" series so much fun has been her characters, and the interaction between Cat and Bones, and Cat's appeal to Bones' buddies. So, much of that has been lost in the series now, that I'm afraid "Night Huntress" will have to be put to rest.
Anyway, this book is typical of the rest of the books, and is very enjoyable for light listening. Never too scary, and has it's amusing times. Very predictable, and is trying to start a new series, which seems so much like the "Night Huntress" series, just with a change of leading characters. Loved that Tavia Gilbert was the narrator, cause she does such a good job with the "Night Huntress" novels, that I would have hated to get used to a different Vlad voice.
This one does leave you hanging, so be ready for the next installment. Trouble is that it's told by the leading lady of the book, so figure she's there to stay. Was called a Night Prince novel, but was more of a Layla novel. Would have liked to have seen Vlad as the first person of the series; raising havoc, and breaking hearts. As it is, we have another Cat type character, dominating the show.
I am a huge fan of Ms. Frost's work. Her writing never gets old or repeats itself. I was wishing I put off this book until she produced a few so I can go immediately into the next book. I however cannot resist. Tavia is a wonderful narrator and can deliver a story to perfection. I have to admit I got a little giddy when Bones and Cat made a small cameo but I wish that they had more time in the book but I guess this is Vlad's story and not theirs.
I loved the story line between the two characters and how the female characters are always strong confident women who drive to take a challenge on and don't feel they need to be the damsel in distress. All of her books deserve 5 stars
I liked Frost's books before Audible but Tavia Gilbert's performance puts everything she does over the top. I look forward to more...more...more
The only thing I am hating about this book is that the 2nd in the series isn't released yet... (Bah!) Thinking about having to wait almost 2 months until book 2 is released, Kills Me.
---Other than that---
This is a great action story with a really great romance blooming all throughout. The narrator did a great job adding to the story as well. I love that the lead male character has his own mind and doesn't sell himself out just to get the girl like so many other romances. I can't wait to see where their relationship goes in the next book. Although it isn't an epic romance, it ranks pretty high up on my list of great reads.
As far as the author goes, I read the first 8 chapters of Night Huntress and hated every last bit of it - I just couldn't read another word of that book. Bones was nice, but Kat just grated on my last nerve. Thankfully reviews for "Once Burned" overrode my inclination to skip reading another Jeaniene Frost book.
I'm relieved the author went a different direction with a female lead who isn't such a dominate wreck as Kat was in Night Huntress. The author has completely redeemed herself in my eyes. Well done in writing "Once Burned" Jeaniene!
