Publisher's summary

She's a mortal cursed with dark power....

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: a terrifying ability to channel electricity and to see a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude ... until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire.

He's the Prince of Night....

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all - but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him: a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, passion ignites, threatening to consume them. It will take everything they have to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

A must read!

Any additional comments?

This is not your average vampire romance novel. The description intrigued me and so I decided to download the book. Once I started listening, within the first 10 minutes, I was absolutely hooked. I was surprised with how it started and I listened to the entire book within three days. I cannot wait to download the next one! The narrator does great voices and while the voice of the main male character is a bit cliché for what you would imagine Dracula sounds like, it is actually amazing once you get over the initial giggles.

I love how the female lead grows over the course of the book and I like how the book starts off with her unique abilities and job. Many of the abilities and things that happen in this book were a fresh take on as genre that has been media has been inundated with over the past several years. They even poke fun at twilight which I loved. I really love that the entire book isn't only about the relationship between the main characters. I hate when authors forget to have a real story, and here, there is an amazing story.

Between the movies and books that I have seen and read regarding vampires, I think this is my favorite! I loved true blood that played on HBO and while some things in this book could be considered similar to that show, I think that the author stands completely on her own with the book. I hope they make this book into a movie because I would love to see all the vivid images the author created in my mind come to life on the big screen. But in the meantime, I can't wait to read the next three books! I highly recommend this book if you are interested in quasi-romance novels that have a good story with both a strong female and male lead. There is some description of sexual activities so this book so is not meant for children.

When a vampire meets a sideshow performer

A vampire enemy of Vad the Impaler tries to kidnap the sideshow partner of a dwarf vampire that has a talent to electricity and reading the past, present, and future, (Kayla aka Frankie). As Kayla and Vad work through the mystery, the ancient Vampire has to come understanding of a modern woman who could kill with a touch. This is a fast paced action novel that would be an entertainment to the adult reader due to sexual and violent content.

Surprised me - a great one!

I will admit that the cover of this novel had me thinking it might be one of those fantasy/romance novels that were super predictable and also unbelievable in the fantasy. I almost almost didn't get it, but had some credits built up so I thought why not! I am very glad I did and I'm about to move onto Book 2.

It was surprisingly well written. I wouldn't call it a masterpeice, but yes, well written!

I really enjoyed this one and recommend it to others if you are looking for a romance/fantasy that isn't too over-the-top and not too predictable. I also liked that the author didn't dive into them having a sexual encounter within the first few chapters. Romance novel writers out there who are reading - the drawn out wait and sexual teasing makes it all the better!

*spoiler alert ahead*

Also, a great personality trait of Vlad is that he didn't spill his guts and profess his love for Leila instantly...in fact it left at a cliff hanger. Thank you Jeanine for doing this! One thing that never makes me want to continue a series is when an author gives away all the goods in the first book.

I also enjoyed this series more than the one with Cat & Bones.
