Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Laurens is praised for her sultry Bar Cynster series of romances, including A Secret Love and All About Love. On a Wild Night may be the most sensual and completely uninhibited Cynster book yet.

It's 1825 in London, and the two curvaceous and blonde 23-year-old Cynster twins, Amanda and Ameliaare, are desperate to get married. All they need are two fine, strapping gentlemen - preferably with large purses.

So what do these two lusty young ladies do? They make a visit to the local gaming halls, of course! But when Amanda unexpectedly bumps into the notorious Martin Fulbridge, the fifth Earl of Dexter, a chain of events is set into motion that will leave one sister ravished - and the other ravenous for all the juicy details.

Mature listeners will delight in Amanda and Amelia's scandalous adventures around London.

excellent

I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed this one, as I'd never really given Stephanie Laurens a chance. The battle of wills between the two main characters kept me interested, and the scene at the beginning where they meet each other for the first time was one of the best I'd ever read. Simon Prebbles is also probably the best narrator I've ever heard.

disappointing

Having now listened to all the Cynster novels up until this one, I found this story boring. The beginning and the end were interesting, the rest was very repetitive. 'Marry me, no, marry me, no, marry me, maybe', on and on this story line goes. Could have developed the characters so much more, and thus made the story line more interesting. As another reviewer wrote, I also get tired of the same phrases used over and over in these books, How many times do they 'hmph'? I do love historical romance, and I enjoy most of this author's books. Also enjoy the sex scenes, but those are over done also. So, glad I got this on sale and didn't use a whole credit. Not sure if I want to listen to the next one or not. As usual, the narrator does a fabulous job. He is one of my favorites for this genre.

A good read

I enjoyed this tale of another Synster maid. I like her determination to shape her future and the various twists and turns in the plot.

Loved and enjoyed this book.

I always read the reviews when I intend to read or listen to a book. But, when the author is one of my personal top ten favorite historical writers, and when I adore the narrator, I just ignore all those negative reviews and read it anyway. So glad I did. Stephanie Laurens did not disappoint me at all. I loved the plot, the romance, the intrigue, the hot love scenes and the sweet HEA. Simon Prebble can read a dictionary and I'll still swoon. So, I loved it so much I'm awarding it 5 brightly shining stars all round.

Not as good as other books by Stephanie Laurens.

I did not like Amanda "tricking" Martin and then not giving him straight answers as the story continued. Stephanie is a good story teller. But the lack of honesty between the main characters, caused me to downgrade my ratings

Go to any Length.....

To what length are you will go to in order to find the perfect husband or wife for yourself? Amanda Cynster is 23 years old and tired of waiting. Amanda and Amelia (twin sister) hash up plans to snare, if you will, that perfect someone. Amanda decides to skirt the lines of propriety and frequent establishments, no lady of good breeding should frequent. With the unwilling aide of her childhood friend Reggie, who escorts her to the gaming hall, there Amanda gets into trouble and is in need of a hero a knight in shining armor. Decker is the only one willing to come to the rescue, all the other men in the gaming hall wanted to have a taste of Amanda viewing her as a sweet morsel. By the end of the first night/morning in the gaming hall, Amanda knew Martin Fulbridge Earl of Decker was just the man for her; she even dubbed him her lion. Martin on the hand thought he would never lay eyes upon Amanda ever again after that night in the gaming hall but he didn't know he had a Cynster determined to have him. As we know, what a Cynster wants a Cynster gets...and Amanda is no exception even though she is a female...
My take away...If you are tired of waiting for your dream man or woman to come and find you, by all means, go out and find him or her. After all, that person just might think they don't deserve true happiness.

Meh

Not the best example of Laurens' s imagination, I feel.
Amanda goes to a gaming hell to find the kind of man she wants for a husband and comes up with Martin. The rest of the book is just about that exciting. Not.
I must have bought the audio on sale without reading the paperback first. It is not on my list to reread.
Can't fault Simon Prebble's performance, though.

One of my favorites

This is fantastic love story. It is absolutely one of my favorite Cynster novels. It has everything you want in a romance novel and Simon Prebble does a wonderful job developing and helping you visualize each character, their personality and how they interact with others in the story. His narration makes the entire story come alive!!! I love how he portrays Martin’s strength and Amanda’s defiance; their raw chemistry; their commitment to each other and their passionate and sensual encounters throughout the novel. Lauren’s character development of Amanda as she becomes a more daring and confident young woman; awakens sensually; and ultimately digs in her heels, claims her lion and fights for the life they both deserve had me cheering her on and celebrating her victory! Great story and well narrated!!!
