Publisher's summary

Let #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts fly you into Lunacy, Alaska, and into a colorful, compelling novel about two lonely souls who are searching for love and redemption...

As a Baltimore cop, Nate Burke watched his partner die on the street - and the guilt still haunts him. With nowhere else to go, he accepted the job as Chief of Police in a tiny, remote Alaskan town with the hopes of starting over. Despite the name, Lunacy provides a balm for Nate’s shattered soul - and an unexpected affair with pilot Meg Galloway warms his nights....

But other things in Lunacy are heating up. Nate suspects the killer in an unsolved murder still walks the snowy streets. His investigation will unearth the secrets and suspicions that lurk beneath the placid surface, as well as bring out the big-city survival instincts that made him a cop in the first place. And his discovery will threaten the new life - and the new love - that he has finally found for himself.

Critic reviews

"[A] richly textured novel that captures the intimacy of smalltown police work, the prickliness of the pioneer spirit and the paradox of a setting at once intimate and expansive." (Publishers Weekly)

"Roberts's latest hit novel could not be performed better." (AudioFile)

Always a great story!

Full disclosure: I'm a longtime Nora Roberts fan. Consequently, I know in advance that there will be an inevitable romantic relationship theme that helps drive the storyline. Nonetheless, the essence of the story is a mystery w/lots of twists, turns and interesting characters. Though I've never been to Alaska, I do love the Northwest and so many of the references she makes about the environment I can appreciate and relate to. In all her novels I like how Roberts seems to have acquired many details about the place where the story occurs--the general character of the people, the customs of the area, the weather, the landscape, all the little details that bring the setting of the story to life. So, while romance is always an underlying theme, it doesn't overshadow a well-told mystery, and that is what I think "Northern Lights" is. Whether or not you are a Roberts "fan" this story is exciting and fast paced, entertaining and believable.

I loved this book

I have visited Alaska, but in the summer, and have always wanted to view the northern lights. This book made me feel like an Alaskan native...being there for northern lights, a clear view of Mount Denali, 20 hours of dark, and lots of snow and wind. Nora Roberts is a suburb story teller. She has woven in a hero, a heroine, a crime story, and lots of wonderful personalities.

Romance for Men

It's got mystery. It's got action. It's got sex. It's got wilderness adventure. Really, it checks all the boxes. we all know that Nora Roberts is a great writer, and Gary Littman does a fantastic job with the narration, so it's no surprise that this is an enjoyable listen. This is my second listen and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

Make time for a good book

Enjoyed the story line. Plenty of characters to not be predictable but not complicated. Good job in setting the scenery of Alaska's harsh winters. Good read and listen.

Well done! Was pulled into the story immediately!

I have been trying to steer away from giving 5 stars, but this story deserved it!! The narrator's performance was outstanding. He brought each character to life. I particularly liked Hop, the Mayor. The voice he used for her was a hoot! Somehow I managed to not discover Nora Roberts until I joined Audible. And I am so glad I did because I am really enjoying her work.

Really Fun!

I have never read a Nora Roberts book before, so this is my first intro into her writing. I really enjoyed the story and the pacing. It was a fun read with a light mystery in the background of the romance. It takes place in Alaska and it was really neat to experience Alaska through the book. Now I think I might like to actually see Alaska (in the summer though lol).

The characters were varied and there was some development. The world was rich. It wasn't a deep dive into Alaska or a deep dive into the characters. Just enough. It was exactly what I wanted.

Great book!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The book keeps you wanting more. I had a hard time stopping the book when I had to. I couldn’t wait to listen again and again. The person reading the story did a great job too. They had an amazing voice. Thank you for such a good experience. I can’t wait to read or listen to more of your books!

Good time

Good story narration loses points because his female voices were lame. Story was engaging, it was more murder mystery than romance.
