The second installment in Kresley Cole’s best-selling steamy Immortals After Dark series is now available on audio for the first time!
Centuries ago, Sebastian Wroth was turned into a vampire - a nightmare in his mind - against his will. Burdened with hatred and alone for ages, he sees little reason to live - until an exquisite, fey creature comes to kill him, inadvertently saving him instead.
When Kaderin the Cold Hearted lost her two beloved sisters to a vampire attack long ago, a benevolent force deadened her sorrow - accidentally extinguishing all of her emotions. Yet whenever she encounters Sebastian, her feelings - particularly lust - emerge multiplied. For the first time, she’s unable to complete a kill.
The prize of the month-long contest is powerful enough to change history, and Kaderin will do anything to win it for her sisters. Wanting only to win her, forever, Sebastian competes as well, taking every opportunity - as they travel to ancient tombs and through catacombs, seeking relics around the world - to use her new feelings to seduce her. But when forced to choose between the vampire she’s falling for and reuniting her family, how can Kaderin live without either?

After listening to the first book in this series I was eager to listen to the next; however, in all honesty book 2 threw me for a bit of a loop. The emotional and sometimes physical battles that ensued as the two lead characters stumbled through their blossoming romance bordered on exhausting at moments. Cadaren, the main female character was such a tough nut to crack. I wanted to know how things would ultimately unfold and culminate in her relationship with Sebastian, but, I was impatient to get there. I quickly tired of her dismissing and being semi-cruel to Sebastian, as I was totally endeared to Sebastian's character. Despite all this, it was still a good book. As are Kresley Cole's books, this was hot and sexy for sure, which was well depicted by Robert Petkoff who seriously deserves an award for all the passion he's delivering! Although I have somewhat conflicting feelings about this one, I'm not deterred from the series or the author, and I'd recommend it to others looking for an interesting twist on romance of the paranormal kind.
Robert Petkoff, Robert Petkoff and Robert Petkoff. Oh and did I mention Robert Petkoff?
When Sebastian takes a hard stance - I really like how that entire scene/ chapter was written. Hot and touching!
Everything. I wish he would go back and re-narrate some other steamy books I've listened to. He is such a testament to how much a good narrator can make or break an audiobook.
Yes my extreme reaction was to immediately go see what else Robert Petkoff has narrated that falls under the broad romance umbrella and download.
This was a solid enjoyable book. Not my favorite of the series, but a huge improvement from A Hunger Like No Other. At least with this leading lady, I felt her actions were justifiable based on her past (read: the lovers bicker, but not just to propel the plotline).
Dont Judge a Book by its Movie
Robert Petkoff's voice is amazing, he pulls accents out of his hat and does them smoothly even when he switching from a Scott to a Russian!
Reagan, so I can not wait to read/hear her book. They just need to record them faster, I bought all the books so if Audible doesnt catch up with me in time, I still get my characters just not with that great voice behind them.
His voice and energy.
Both, and I just cant stop listening, I listen at work, home, gym, I am obsessed.
Believer in what you can't see
Already have. I listen to this story when I explore the internet and listened to it when I was reading the book. It is a wonderful experience.
Sebastian is my favorite in the story, because no matter what has happen to him, he is still noble and sincere. He takes Kaderin the way she is and he is proud of her.
I love the whole concept of an Amazing Race with supernatural beings. Puts a whole new mean into fair play.
A race to the finish line that will make you say, Damn that was good.
Great series for those with a sense of humor.
Avid Reader when not teaching, being a Mommy, or gamer. Loves just about anything!
Yes, if nothing else, then to hear Mr. Petkoff narrate.
Yes, yes, yes!
Mr. Petkoff's abilities as a narrator would make listening to the phone book a pleasure.
It was a thrill ride, from beginning to end!
The reuniting..... I can't say more
His voice is great, his character acting is without equal!
Action Packed, Romantic Thrill Ride!!
Fabulous Audio book
Loved the character accents!
I already have the whole series on Kindle ebook, but now I am impatiently waiting for all of them on Audiobook...I will buy them all again.
Writer of paranormal & contemporary erotic romance. Reader of muchness. Drinker of beer & coffee. Ye be forewarned!
Yes, a thousand times, YES! I was leery about listening to this series because I love each of the books so much but Robert Petkoff doesn't just do them justice, he brings them to life with the sound of his voice. He does female voices and male voices equally well and drives the story forward by investing you in these characters even more than Kresley Cole does on her own. I wasn't aware that was even possible.
This book isn't my favorite of Kresley Cole's (in print) but hearing it made it climb the ranks in a fast and furious way. Hearing the characters made me care more about them, made me scramble to see if I remembered what happened next. Robert Petkoff made me feel like I was reading the book for the first time, all over again.
It's not just how he brings the characters *awake*, like you're getting ready to have a conversation with them yourself-- though he does that marvelously. It's the tension, the absolute struggle Sebastian and Kaderin are going through. These two, neither or whom have displayed any real emotion in centuries, are born again in Petkoff's voicing.
You know you're having a bad day when falling in love with your enemy and learning how to navigate your own emotions from scratch are worse than a deadly, immortal version of the Amazing Race. Better pack light-- you never know when you're gonna kick someone else off a cliff.
Read this book and all the others Robert Petkoff has done for Kresley Cole. You can't go wrong-- it's not possible.
love the idea of a nerdy guy finding out that he's handsome he's capable and he can get the girl. love the idea of a powerful woman who can handle everything on her own and convince her man that he doesn't need to help her he just needs to be there when she needs him.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
This installment of the Immortals after Dark series is excellent. I love this new world and the use of all the mythological creatures. I am looking forward to the next one.
Sebastion Wroth is the brother of Nikolai from A HUNGER LIKE NO OTHER. Nikolai forced Sebastion to drink his blood and become a vampire. Sebastion has spent the last several hundred years hating his brother and wishing he were dead. He has no hope until he meets Kaderin the Cold-Hearted, a Valkyrie who is lost in guilt over the death of her two sisters a thousand yrs ago.
Kaderin showed mercy to a vampire who repaid her by killing her sisters. She mysteriously received the blessing of no emotions, that has allowed her to live with the guilt. But when she meets Sebastion all her emotions come back. She has entered the Hie, a scavenger hunt, to win the key of Thane. A key to time, if she wins she can go back and save her sisters.
The minute Sebastion sees Kaderin he knows she is his Bride. The one woman who can make his heart beat again. Although she quickly leaves him he is determined to find her and once he does he must win her. Decideing to help her win the Hie, he enters the race against her wishes.
The tasks are all over the world and all are hard. Each one earns points, the most points wins. Sebastion wants only to help and protect Kaderin. This is a wonderful mixture of fun and romance, with a great ending.
There will be another book and I am so ready for it. The teaser at the end sounds marvelous.
Don't miss this one, if you like romance and fantasy.
