Audible Editor Reviews

Why we think it's Essential - The Molly Harper/Amanda Ronconi pairing has become the stuff of Audible legend, and it all started with this book. If you ever feel like the vampire romance genre has all gotten a little bit too serious and swooning for its own good, this is the perfect antidote. The kick-off to the delightfully quirky and laugh-out-loud funny Nice Girls;... series, as well as an equally popular spin-off series, this book has been a non-stop hit with our listeners. — Emily

Publisher's Summary

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

Love in vein: bite into more of Jane Jameson's paranormal exploits.

"Short and cute but not great"
What did you like best about Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs? What did you like least?

I thought this was an okay book. It was short and cute but seemed to me like it was trying to be like the Queen Betsy series too much. I would have like more interaction with and character development of Gabriel. I could relate to the family dynamic but the mother and sister seemed a bit over-the-top. They were exaggerated archetypes and started to be a little less believable at the end.

Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to books ready by Amanda Ronconi before. She was very good; authentic accents and good character voice separation. I could immediately tell which character was speaking before their name was stated. I can't blame not loving the book on her. My only tiny criticism was the small hesitation before

Was Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs worth the listening time?

This was a shorter story so I feel it was worth the listening time. I don't think I would feel the same way if it was longer.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed listening to it but won't pursue the series.

If you could sum up Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs in three words, what would they be?

Cute kind of like the true blood series.

Would you be willing to try another book from Molly Harper? Why or why not?

Yes I will be getting the next book in the series.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I felt like the voices were ok but could have been better.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    for the most part, yes.

What made the experience of listening to Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs the most enjoyable?

The reader, Amanda Ronconi, does a great job. I think she comes off as really being Jane. She makes the character seem real and personal and so easy to identify with. You almost expect you could arrange to meet her (Jane)!

    Any additional comments?

I wasn't sure about this series. I enjoyed reading Twilight (but am not a rabid Twi-fan, lol!) but was a little leery of the vast amount of Vampire fiction out there now. The reviews for this book got me to try it. Everyone said it was funny. I agree. I laughed out loud, over and over again. The

    "Fun Listening!"
What made the experience of listening to Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs the most enjoyable?

I really like reading all of the Vampire novels over the past 5 years. I have a long commute to work and so I thought I would listen to books as I drive. I happen on Molly Harper's series of books and started listening. It was fun and easy to follow. I have the next one queued up on my iPhone to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs?

I grew up in the area that the book takes place, Kentucky-Indiana, and so I had a great time relating to Jane's mother and imposing good manners with other people. I totally related!!

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Jane could finally she her dead Aunt's ghost.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

After Jane found out she had been turned into a Vampire and wanted to protect her parents.

    Any additional comments?

For anyone that loves Vampire novels, enjoys family time, and plain good fun, this is a great book to listen to on Audible.

"Light on story / Heavy on laughs"

Having recently listened to Molly Harper''s 'Naked Werewolf' series, I thought I'd give the Jane Jameson books a try. I'm glad I did. There are already plenty of reviews for this book/series, so I'll keep it short (well, for me, anyway).

The story: 3 stars --- There isn't much of a plot; Girl is about to die (one of the funniest deaths ever & totally NOT expected) & is turned into a vampire to save her life. The rest of the story is her coming to grips with her new "undead" status. There is No great mystery (what little there is, is easily figured out); There is no great romance; and there is no intricate, unique world-building /mythology that draws you into this world that Jane & her family & friends reside . What there IS, however, is a lot of laughs.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is in the mood for a light, fun read (or listen). Also, I would warn that the humor in this book is of the 'snarky banter/quips' variety. If this brand of humor is not your cup of tea, then I would pass on this. Think Christopher Moore's Blood Sucking Fiends series... the nearly non-stop humor and sometimes absurd situations/characters reminded me a little of that. (The humor is like what you find in Harper's 'Naked Werewolf' series though amped up considerably and as stated before, with less story/plot.)

    Narration --- 4 stars

    Overall --- 3.5 to 4 stars.

(I'll likely purchase the next 2 books in the series.)

"Like a Sookie Stackhouse without the Explicit Sex"
Would you listen to Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs again? Why?

Yes, it's a humorous and quick moving story with vampires, werewolves, humans, etc trying to survive love, murder, betrayal and all the other stuff that makes life worthwhile.

What did you like best about this story?

It doesn't get you wound around the supernatural axle and presents characters that could just be real (if there really was vampires and werewolves) and the narrator makes the funny even funnier.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

Her interpretation of the voices is fantastic, I love her Dick Cheney. Her Jane Jameson voice is even better than I imagined Jane when I read the book in paperback.

    Any additional comments?

Great voice actor, narrator or whatever you call the reader.
