Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.
Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

"Hysterical laughs are the hallmark of this enchanting paranormal debut....Harper keeps the quips coming without overdoing the sarcasm, and her take on vampire lore will intrigue and entertain even the most jaded paranormal fan." (Publishers Weekly)
I am a die-hard Sookie Stackhouse fan so I was a little leery buying this first book...but I did and am very pleased I did. Before I finished the first one, I bought the next 2 and the 4th one today...since it just came out. Great characters, good storyline and excellent narration. If you are a Sookie/True Blood fan you will love Jane Jameson. I like this series because the undead get to do a little more and the characters aren't quite so violent (yet) and there are little mishaps along the way. Very much lighter than Sookie Stackhouse, but just as whimsical and entertaining. Love the cast of characters and with each novel Jane seems to get into more "situations". Highly recommend all of Jane Jameson Series. Buy them all now because you will want to go onto the next one as soon as you're finished. I could read (listen) to them over and over again.
No it seems me too shallow and boring.
The protagonist was often irritating
She improved the story adding her performance
The sookie stackhouse novels, both are fun vampire series with a southern twist & sense of humor.
Loved the very opening when she dies, sounds morbid, but it really is funny the way Molly Harper writes it!
Molly Harper has a great sense of humour (Canadian spelling). Don't look for anything deep in this series, just good light entertainment, and quite a few laughs. Amanda Ronconi gives the perfect touch of sarcasm and wit in her readings of each character. Nice way to de-stress or just relax after a busy day!
Sexy, quirky, funny
Missy the realtor was a great character. I loved the voice the narrator gave to her. It suited her so well.
I love the way she could embody each character so well. They all had their own voice, and you were never guessing who that was supposed to be talking.
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was that in certain points of the book I found myself double-checking to see if the author was a man. Some reactions were a little sexist, but not so much you can't just shrug your shoulders and move on. Overall this book was very very good and I have already gotten the second one on my list.
This was a fun story and had me hooked from the start. I found myself looking for tasks to do so that I could keep listening. I find that's hard to do with an audio book. But Jane's life turning from bad to worse, or from worse to better depending on perception was engaging. Amanda Ronconi brought the books to life. It was so good, that after listening to this story, I downloaded all the others in the series. I can't wait for the rest of her books to be in a audio format.
A switch from many "vampire" type stories. Its fun and enjoyable following the main characters adjust. Molly Harper is fast becoming one of my favorite authors, and Amanda Ronconi is a great narrater. This is on my "must read" series.
Tell us about yourself!
Retired high school English teacher. I liked and worked with the at-risk student. Interested in about everything, but I love a good story.
This story is light, funny, and intriguing. I really don't like vampire stories, but this one is an exception. The narrator does an excellent job of promoting the tone of the story.
I'll even read more of this series.
Next Sunday and Monday Stephanie and I are reviewing this years Molly Harper releases – her Werewolf books. Since I have a “book of choice” today I thought I would take the opportunity to highlight Molly Harper’s other series, Vampires – The Jane Jameson Series, which has a new installment due out the beginning of next year. Both of her series are laugh out loud funny and the perfect stress relievers for the busy holiday season. This would be a great opportunity to get caught up on the series and be ready for the next Vampire book when it comes out this spring. The version I have is the audio version.
Her Vampire series starts with “Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs”. This series is based on the character Jane Jameson and follows her character throughout the entire series. So if you like Sookie books or the Cat and Bones series then this would be a fit for you.
Jane Jameson is a self-professed nice girl with a quick sense of humor and a passion for trivia. The story starts with her being fired by her beastly boss and handed a twenty-five dollar Shenanigans Gift Certificate instead of a severance check. With Shenanigans being her only choice for drowning her sorrows in the two light town of Half Moon Hollow she proceeds to try to come to terms with her miserable life of being an almost virgin, now former librarian over many, many Electric Lemonades. This is where she meets the tall, yummy stranger, Gabriel. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.
Upon awakening Jane has to come to terms with all the changes undead life has to offer, including how to tell her family. As Jane would say, “Thank God there is a hand book!” And after some strange occurrences around her it appears that someone is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. Luckily she has her faithful ever loyal friend Jeb and the new blessing of being able to see her recently deceased favorite aunt in her ghostly form to help her along the way. She quickly meets new friends in the vampire community and starts to find out that being undead isn’t that bad.
Ms. Harper does an incredible job making each character strong and funny. They work seamlessly together to create a fun cast that leaves the reader anxious to get to know more about each one of them. Although there is a nice plot that keeps the story going and there is the hope of a growing connection with Gabriel what really makes this series great is the humor and the interaction of the characters. Amanda Ronconi does the audio on all the Molly Harper books. She does an excellent job with the character voices and delivering the lines in a way that really brings Ms. Harper's comedic style to full light. If you haven't listened to audio before this is a great series to start with. The plot and characters are easy to follow and are perfect for grabbing a few minutes here and there while trying to deal with the crazy holiday season. Sneak a few minutes of laugh out loud stress relief in for yourself. Enjoy!
