Publisher's summary

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

Love in vein: bite into more of Jane Jameson's paranormal exploits.

Critic reviews

"Hysterical laughs are the hallmark of this enchanting paranormal debut....Harper keeps the quips coming without overdoing the sarcasm, and her take on vampire lore will intrigue and entertain even the most jaded paranormal fan." ( Publishers Weekly)

Nice listen

This book was a nice, easy listen. The story was good, though a bit predictable. The main character, Jane, can be funny at times. While the main character's voice was fine, some of the other character's delivery was off. For example, every time one of the supporting character's talked it sounded like he was chewing gum! Mild issue, but could be quite annoying over the course of the series. Overall, I will probably listen to the entire series as I do like light books every once in a while that don't require much thinking.

Entertaining, but nothing to write home about.

The concept and characters were interesting enough, but something about it just fell short. I think it's a combination of the narrator portraying pretty much everyone as kind of flat toned and the character development rushing through relationship building. There's not much inflection and even the romantic scenes felt forced.

The storyline kept me interested, but I just couldn't give this 5 stars. I would buy the 2nd book if it were a few bucks, just to fill the time at work.

Any additional comments?

This is the first Molly Harper book I have listened to and I will definately be getting more of her titles. So nice to laugh along with a book and it brightened my day. A good story and likable characters but it was the humour that made this easy listening story stand out!

Great Series and Great Narrator!

Loved this book, the first in a series of vampire books. Molly Harper has become a favorite author of mine with her humorous style of writing and engaging characters.
Jane Jameson, a young librarian in a small town, is turned into a vampire following a freak shooting accident. Vampire Gabriel Nightingale finds her and turns her to save her life. The story follows Jane as she learns to deal with her new "life" and the quirky bunch of new friends she makes as a vampire.
Amanda Ronconi is perfect as the narrator. She has just the right voice for the characters and really enhanced my enjoyment of the book. I'm listening to the 3rd book in the series now and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Highly recommend if you like campy paranormal stories. I also recommend Molly Harper's two "Naked Werewolf" books.
