Legions of readers entranced by the New York Times best-seller Twilight are hungry for the continuing story of star-crossed lovers Bella and Edward. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural spin. "New Moon will more than feed the bloodthirsty hankerings of fans of the first volume and leave them breathless for the third." (School Library Journal)
"Bella's dismay at being ordinary (after all, she's only human) will strike a chord even among girls who have no desire to be immortal, and like the vampires who watch Bella bleed with 'fevered eyes', teens will relish this new adventure and hunger for more." (Booklist)
It was so hard waiting for Edward to appear in this book because all I want is for them to continue on. Bella's pain was really intense and this book was darker, sadder then the first. She did not annoy me as others here have stated with her aching heart that could not be cured. I am 46 and it really takes you back to those painful adolescent years of heart wrenching relationships. A great listen and I could not take my ear phones out to the annoyance of my family but found myself wanting to skip ahead (though I didn't)because it was so hard to continue on in Bella's pain.
Loving books :) Quick and honest reviews.
without spoiling the book. There is many parts that presents situations that the outcome is highly anticipated. Keeps you interested, involved and entertained.
The easiness to follow the book. Some times a simple, well planned and great flow is a great break from thinking and a step into peaceful bliss. Much of this book was used for "Mommy break" and paired with a 1000 piece puzzle and bottle of wine.
The very end when the Jacob and Edward divide truly gets set in place.
There was many times that the book made me laugh and cry. There is many emotions that the book brings - sad, angry, happy, scared, curious.
I said I would never read these books. However, I broke down and started to.. Glad I did. Downloading the thrid book now.
This was an enjoyable book if you like this type of theme. It was a book that any audience can listen to as it applied to both teens and adults. It has romance yet with the added plus of the "underworld" vampire theme. The writer does not rush the story which is part of what keeps you listening because you are left in suspense with this trilogy. There are times that the book is slow but it picks up enough and is interesting enough to keep you going. The only thing I found annoying was the constant use of the phrase, "I shuddered," and that while Bella is described often as a smart girl, there are scenarios where she must have been struck dumb because it's obvious what is going on. So while that was annoying to me, I still found the book interesting and suspenseful and listened to all three books in this trilogy. The first two really set the stage and develop the characters while the last one is probably the best as it starts to delve deeper into the vampire world. All of the books in this trilogy are clean, meaning that your children could listen to them without you worrying.
I can find a book to love in any genre -- a beautifully written classic, an interesting mystery or sci-fi, a trashy romance. Bring it!
STORY (YA vampire romance) - I like to listen to the "relevant" YA series, you know, the ones with multiple hit movies, etc., and I've really loved some of them. After hearing Books 1&2 of this series, however, I will say it has been PAINFULLY boring. I've endured 28 hours of teenage character building and "hanging out," which could have easily been condensed to 1/4 that time. I listened at 2X and 3X speed and it was still moving too slowly! Okay, I get it. I'm not the target audience.
As a parent, I would say the book is very clean and appropriate enough for young adults. The only criticisms I have are that (1) Edward sneaks into Bella's bedroom and spends the night multiple times, although nothing sexual happens except a little kissing, (2) Bella ignores her father's wishes and does some very stupid and dangerous things to be "closer" to Edward after they've broken up and (3) she agonizes over her breakup with Edward for months (and like eight book-hours), even to the point of becoming catatonic where her father thinks about getting her treatment. Not sure if that's the perfect example for kids of how to get over a painful breakup.
NARRATOR - Good enough for the simple job at hand.
OVERALL - Fine for your young adult if you're okay with my second paragraph above. If you value your sanity, don't listen to it yourself.
I'm a Cardiac Anesthesiologist with two college aged children. I used 2 check my kid's books for appropriateness & now enjoy those books 2.
This was my favorite book in her series until I read the 4th. The twists are wonderful. The ideas, theme, plot, and story line are great. I am an extremely ravenous book reader and breeze through about 60 novels a year. My daughter got me into this series and I have loved it. I have read other Vampire books but hers are stupendous. As an adult married male with teenagers, it is also refreshing to have morals in a book for teens. The sappy love story stuff is actually amusing also and easily passed over as humor at my own youth.
Busy mom and "Nana." Love the audiobooks so I can keep hands free for multi-tasking. Originally from So. Calif., living in Montana
I enjoyed the book very much and likewise the audio version. In particular, I loved the narrator's voice. She became Bella to me. She does a great job of changing tone and tenor for different characters. The book moves along well, the characters are true to their original story. I really liked it, but it is not a stand-alone. Read book one first before trying this one.
I love most books that transport me to another time and place & books that uplift my spirit.
I'm loving this story. I just finished the second book and can't wait to listen to the 3rd & 4th ones. I'm not going to give away the story, but I will say that you will get so consumed in it that you can't either put it down or you will dream about it when the story starts taking turns that you didn't expect. Love this!!!
I read the series and liked it enough to want to listen too.
Unfortunately the reader's voice annoyed me and by the second book so did the vapidity of the protagonist and the creepiness of her "love."
Skip it. And if you do suffer through it, definitely don't get the next one--it gets worse.
New Moon is the second in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga. It tells the next chapter of the lovers Edward and Bella, and also brings in the third character, Jacob, who only appeared as a cammio in the first book. As Jacob discovers his true identity and his friendship with Bella grows, it seems that nothing will ever be straightforward again.
I have read and listened to all 4 of these books and I have got to say I absolutely loved them I keep re-listening to them they are just fantastic.
