His enemy, the beautiful but deadly vampire queen Lilith, has had over 2,000 years of experience in cruelly killing and changing humans into one of her own - including Hoyt's brother, Cian.
Now, Hoyt, a sorcerer, must travel across the world and through time to find and train the five others Morrigan has prophesized will join him as a circle and do battle against Lilith's army of vampires on Samhain in the land of Geall.
But just who is the witch, the shape-changer, the scholar, the warrior and the vampire? How will this unlikely band of six prepare and become one with less than three months until the possible end of the world?
Following the arrival of Glenna Ward - a modern day witch with a knack for making her own kind of magic, the kind that makes his heart melt - Hoyt must find the strength to save the world, and a love that knows no bounds.

"This well-plotted, finely detailed paranormal adventure is driven by richly developed characters, making it a cut above others in this subgenre, and among Roberts's best." (Publishers Weekly)
looking forward to rest of the series. I felt I was right there all along and see even down to the softest light. I can't wait to start book two.
My favorite way to get my reading fix when I am on the move
As hard as it was to get through the beginning of this book, it was that beginning that set up the plot that turned out to be very engaging.
Hoyt is my favorite character because he seems to having the purest heart. He is willing to sacrifice everything for everyone.
My favorite scene was Hoyt's proposal to Glenna.
I love the way the characters came life for me the story itself is fantastic, but to listen to the emotion added to it is great. Nora Roberts is a great author and has away of brining a story and characters to life.
The death of one character and the showing of emotion of another and how deep it really goes. You'll have read it or listen to it to know who I mean.
In the beginning when he calls the storm and lighting it's a fantastic imagery.
Look to second answer.
It is a must read or listen to also you have two others 'The Dance of The Gods' and 'The Vally of Silence'
While I truly enjoy Nora Robert's stories, I do not enjoy this type of theme. Nora Roberts writes very captivating stories and this is just one that I did not enjoy.
I am sure that others will enjoy this book, just not my style.
I am sure.
As I said, Nora Roberts writes very captivating stories, this was just not my type. I will continue to listen to stories she has written, just not this type.
I listen everyday to a story, I truly enjoy audible.
If this is just the first book, boy am I in for a treat! This was the most amazing book yet! It is a story that goes beyond romance, it is a STORY! One that you can see, hear and feel. Nora should write more like this! Cannot wait to listen to book two!
Mother of teenaged bear, Wife to chaos, Warrior
This book was different it pitted so many different characters each one having his own personality and reasons for fighting in this battle.
Larkin he made me laugh
I liked this book. I liked the different characters and the story. It wasn't the same as every other vampire, witch, sorcerer book I've read. It transcended worlds with strong and weak characters each bringing out personalities of their own.
This is book one of the trilogy and, while Nora's talent makes it hard to choose a favorite, this series is one of her very best. I must really like the series because I've read it once and listened to it twice. (Other fav series written by Roberts: Three Sisters, Irish Jewels, Key, Chesapeake, and In The Garden). I always cry at the end as the last book is wrapping up and to me that is the sign of a great book. Takes me awhile to get over missing the characters. Well written and excellently narrated, you can immerse yourself in the story. I HIGHLY recommend spending your credits on this series.
The detail given to the story and how you can connect with each character. I like more than just a surface story. This delivers.
Too many too choose just one
I was truly disappointed when it ended. A great story that brought an interesting blend of characters together. The narration was good, although there were times when I became confused as to whom was speaking due to overlap of accents and speaking styles. I would definitely get the next book in this series!
He did an overall good job with the mens voices. The females weren't bad, except for Blairs. Blair was supposed to have a Boston accent but I kept expecting her to say "don't cha know" at the end of everything she said. Her voice came across as someone from Minnesota.
Not at first. I was skeptical about listening to this book to begin with because it has to do with vampires, witches, sorcerers and so forth. I'm not into that type of book and after reading the Three Sisters Island Trilogy, my mind was set that I wouldn't like it. This book overall wasn't horrible. It took me a while to get in to. I started in some months back and stopped when I finished chapter 1. I listened/read a few other books before deciding to finish what I started.
