His enemy, the beautiful but deadly vampire queen Lilith, has had over 2,000 years of experience in cruelly killing and changing humans into one of her own - including Hoyt's brother, Cian.
Now, Hoyt, a sorcerer, must travel across the world and through time to find and train the five others Morrigan has prophesized will join him as a circle and do battle against Lilith's army of vampires on Samhain in the land of Geall.
But just who is the witch, the shape-changer, the scholar, the warrior and the vampire? How will this unlikely band of six prepare and become one with less than three months until the possible end of the world?
Following the arrival of Glenna Ward - a modern day witch with a knack for making her own kind of magic, the kind that makes his heart melt - Hoyt must find the strength to save the world, and a love that knows no bounds.

"This well-plotted, finely detailed paranormal adventure is driven by richly developed characters, making it a cut above others in this subgenre, and among Roberts's best." (Publishers Weekly)
I loved this trilogy family history suspense and great love ir was just awesome i love the different times in history and how they become a team i recommend this as one of my favorites
looking forward to rest of the series. I felt I was right there all along and see even down to the softest light. I can't wait to start book two.
My favorite way to get my reading fix when I am on the move
As hard as it was to get through the beginning of this book, it was that beginning that set up the plot that turned out to be very engaging.
Hoyt is my favorite character because he seems to having the purest heart. He is willing to sacrifice everything for everyone.
My favorite scene was Hoyt's proposal to Glenna.
I got about 3/4 of the way through this. I liked the characters and the overall storyline, so I wanted to keep going. But I gave up for a couple of reasons.
For my taste there was not enough action and too much of the characters lamenting their losses, and squabbling, and then lamenting their squabbling. Also "plot advancement by means of character stupidity" featured too heavily.
I didn't like the narrator's fake Irish accent with Heavy. Use of. Dramatic. Pauses. Also, he used the same whiny voice for women that George Guidall uses, which sounds like the voice of a middle-aged person and thus seemed wrong for the 20-something witch protagonist.
I love the way the characters came life for me the story itself is fantastic, but to listen to the emotion added to it is great. Nora Roberts is a great author and has away of brining a story and characters to life.
The death of one character and the showing of emotion of another and how deep it really goes. You'll have read it or listen to it to know who I mean.
In the beginning when he calls the storm and lighting it's a fantastic imagery.
Look to second answer.
It is a must read or listen to also you have two others 'The Dance of The Gods' and 'The Vally of Silence'
If this is just the first book, boy am I in for a treat! This was the most amazing book yet! It is a story that goes beyond romance, it is a STORY! One that you can see, hear and feel. Nora should write more like this! Cannot wait to listen to book two!
A different narrator
Make the strong women characters sound wimpy, shallow and a mockery of women. His women's voice range is poor.
The men sound similar.
I wish I had listened to the reviews.
I had enjoyed the print books
I have listened to excellent narrators that evoke the feeling of the books. Male and female narrators
Mr Hill has a compelling voice but not for Nora Roberts book.
But then I have found very few Nora Roberts book well narrated.
Mother of teenaged bear, Wife to chaos, Warrior
This book was different it pitted so many different characters each one having his own personality and reasons for fighting in this battle.
Larkin he made me laugh
I liked this book. I liked the different characters and the story. It wasn't the same as every other vampire, witch, sorcerer book I've read. It transcended worlds with strong and weak characters each bringing out personalities of their own.
I think I have listened to Dick Hill before. I found this so annoying, again I learn the hard way, listen before you buy. I think I listened to 10 minutes and gave up. This must be at least the 5th book I could not listen to.
Always make sure you sample the book fist.
