Part Three in the Dormant Desires Series. For a comprehensive back story please see, Alpha Awakened and Omega Rising.
In this third installment, Lumen is our focus. She is a lycanthropic wolf, shifted to human. Her perceptions are that of a wolf, and her psyche is absent of all human morals or civility. As we follow her development and integration with the rest of the Alpha Pack, we find out more about the ancient curse inflicted upon all shape shifters. With the lifting of the curse follows a multitude of ramifications, including the apparent mated status between Mathew and the now human-looking, wolf-acting, Lumen.
There are comical moments, heartbreaking moments, lots of passionate and erotic moments, and more in-depth study of Jacob, Allison, Samantha and the rest of the Alpha Pack.

I absolutely loved this series and on audiobook, it's even better...thanks to the narrator! Joshua is amazing! I can't stand when women narrators do male voices so this was realistic and HOT. I'd love to hear more from him and Payne!
It would be easier to say what I didn't like! And that would be nothing. There isn't a thing about Lumen I didn't love
I still have to lean towards Jacob. Who doesn't want to have their own alpha male hunk taking charge!
I love Jacob. Joshua does his voice in such a sexy manner...makes your toes curl. Love a guy with an accent.
Without giving anything in the story away, I think the most moving was when Samantha and Iain told the family of their decision they made.
I love the fact that the pack is seeking other shifters. This opens the doors for so many future installments of the series. This episode showed more of the humour of the pack, especially through Lumen herself. She is comical in her new position. Loved this book, and really love the series. This is the perfect example of two very talented artists combining their gifts together and creating an awesome product in the end. Joshua Story, you rock! Payne, I love your imagination and where your mind brings us.
I love the humor of Lumen! Although Allison and Jacob are still going at it, we have new entertainment in this book with Lumen and Matthew. Lumen constantly had me rolling! Once a wolf, she now takes human form and has to learn to act like one. Well, at least she is trying to... somewhat.
I love how the series was written. One gripes I have with some authors is introducing too many characters too quickly. Payne gradually introduced characters into the story line through the entire series. I hate having to try to keep of track of 20 characters in the first 10k words of a book. Another gripe I have is covers. Come on ladies, does every romance book have to have a guy with exposed abs on the cover for you to buy it? And you say men are shallow ... but I digress. Kudos to Payne for avoiding the formula cover crap on this one.
Great series and looking forward to more!
I love reading, writing, poetry, and music. Huge fan of paranormal romance/erotica, and anything with some great, sexy scenes. <3
If you like wolf/shifter books, this series is perfect for you!
Lumen is the third book, after Alpha Awakened and Omega Rising and continues the story of the wolves and Jacob and Allison. And now there's Lumen....
As always Payne Hawthorne writes amazing sex scenes. I also love how she creates the scene and environment and the way each of the characters have distinct personalities.
Lumen is funny, sexy, memorable and sad, and it's a perfect ending to a great series.
I can't pick a favorite scene because I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story, but there's a between Lumen and Matt that's hot hot hot!
Joshua Story is a great storyteller, I love his voices and accents, he's perfect for these books and always easy to follow and understand.
Love anything about shifters and lycanthropy. Paranormal romance is my thing! best escape and entertainment I can imagine! :]
Hilarious, sexy, engrossing.
I love this series! I've read it already, but listening was even more fun. The narrator did a fab job and I loved his use of accents!
I have dogs so most of the behaviors depicted were right on from my perspective. I laughed out loud numerous times. I also got super turned on from the expertly written sex scenes.
I am really enjoying this new author/narrator combo. I've witnessed Payne's increased abilities as a writer and I can only think she will continue to get better and better. She is now a one-click for me. My only other one-click buys are Kresely Cole/Robert Petkoff, So way to go to this new unknown, (as of yet), author and narrator.
Payne Hawthorne, author/writer of paranormal, erotic, sexy, unique and thought provoking love stories. I am meticulous anarchy.
Me again, the author of this series. This is part three in my series. By the time I wrote this one I'd become much smoother at the execution of telling a story. I am also in love with all my characters and feel they are part of my life and I know them intimately. (I am working on part 4: Cain. Right this second!)
I've spent my life as an animal behaviorist and horse phycology expert, so writing about a wolf turned human was quite fun for me. Of course all the erotic/sex scenes are also my favorite topic. I know I might have gone a bit overboard with the naughty language, but I think it was appropriate given the character of Lumen.
This installment has a lot of emotion, sex, drama and also comedy. It will be over too quickly and I am sorry for that. I plan on continuing in the series and Joshua Story is onboard to narrate. Please also look for some of my other works on Kindle and the entire compilation of Dormant Desires under one title, Alpha Pack. (This compilation has a 6000 word preview of book 4.)
I appreciate you reading/listening to us and running with our pack. :-) Please also find me on Facebook and join my closed group fan club for previews and excerpts from upcoming stories: House of Payne .... Payne Hawthorne
"these get better and better!"
I was gifted a copy of this audio book, by the author, and I thank Ms Hawthorne for that.
This is book 3 in this series, and you must, MUST read books one, Alpha Awakened, and book two Omega Rising first. You won't get the full picture, the full experience from this one if you don't.
Also, I should say, I have not READ this one, just listened to it. I both read AND listened to books one and two.
Imagine being a human, and shifting into a wolf for the first time? Matthew, the nurse who saved Allison while she was waiting for Jacob. Imagine, too, a wolf shifting into human form for the first time? Lumen, the omega golden wolf who stayed with Matt when he was injured. But Matt had some warning, he KNEW he might shift, along with his brothers, at that first full moon after Ally and Jacob reunite. Lumen, and the others, had no clue it might flip both ways.
This is their story. Lumen is hilarious and extremely clever, wicked smart. As she learns how to be upright on two legs, she also tries to keep some wolf traits (the tail wagging did made me laugh!) Her speed at learing is astounding, and she learns speech very fast, swear words, especially. She learns how to make the pack laugh, and does so often. She is, after all, an Omega female, and it is her job to look after her pack, as Ally does.
While predominately Matt and Lumen, we also get some Jacob and Allison, some Sam and Ian, some Samuel, and some Abigail. Jacob and Ally continue to develop their bond, and the bond of the whole pack. Sam and Ian have some problems, and Sam's wolf longs, so desperately longs to be free, and Ian must make a chioce. Samuel disappears for a couple of months but returns in spectacular style, fighting off a bear attack. And Abigail, she arrives from Germany after her parents locked her in a cage for 6 months after that first shift.
The time line runs from the back of that first shift as a pack, to six months or so after. The pack is learning, developing, about what is it to be a proper pack, and how to behave as such.
Joshua Story narrates again, superbly! How the man could keep a straight face while narrating some of Lumen antics, is beyond me. Cos he DID keep a straight face, or his amusement would come across in the narration, and while the amusement of the other pack members comes across, Joshua's personal amusement does not. When Irene teaches Lumen that new swear word, I was driving, and I had such a laughing fit! My daughter wanted to know what I was laughing at, but I couldn't tell her, she is only 13 after all, but also, I couldn't, just couldn't for laughing! I love how Joshua narrates Jacob's voice most of all. When Jacob's emotions get the better of him, he accents becomes thicker, broader, and Joshua pulls it off perfectly!
Cain is next in this series, and I'll be READING that soon. Also I'll listen to it too, but I gotta wait longer for the audio, and I don't think I can wait that long.
5 stars for the story, and 5 for the narration, ya ken??
