A golden-haired seducer, Nicholas has been hardened by a painful secret in his past. And now that he has besmirched Reggie's good name, the hot-tempered lady has vowed to wed him.
Her fiery beauty stirs Nicholas as no woman ever has - and the rake arouses Reggie's passion to an unendurable level. Such uncontrolled desires can lead only to dangerous misunderstandings...and, perhaps, to a love that can live only once in a lifetime.

"[Johanna Lindsey] creates fairy tales that come true!" (Romantic Times)
I read so I can write
This book has a nice story but more important it introduces some very interesting characters - the Mallorys - who will be the characters of the series. It is a good intro that definitely captured my interest and made me want the next one.
This story is wonderful! I laughed, I cried, and could not stop listening to it until it was finished. It's about time Johanna Lindsay's books were narrated.
This narrator is excellent, she brings it to life with her wonderful voices. I plan to keep a hopeful watch out for the other Malory family books to become available in audio, as well. Thank you for the great listening experience!
Loved it from start to finish, was actually sad to finish. Loved every character. It has a bit of everything, drama, love, secrets, interfering family members that make you laugh alot, misunderstandings, triumph. The main characters are great, actually all the characters are great. Some of the voices are shrill but there are so many different characters the poor narrator probably was unable to talk for a few days, lol. I loved it, hope you do.
My favorite books are 'Historical Romance'. A good book takes you away from your everyday life & puts you in the middle of an adventure.
I didn't read the print version of this book. I can only comment on the audiobook. Laurel Merlington is one of the better narrators. However, I feel even Ms. Merlington misses the mark in her portrayal of some of the characters. I would enjoy audiobooks even more if each narrator put more tender emotion into the male characters of the story. I suggest for all narrators to read the story with various colored highlighters in hand. As the narrator reads the story, she should make all playful dialogue one color, seductive dialogue another, tender & loving dialogue another color & so on. I feel this would be an excellent reminder as she's recording the story to automatic change the delivery of these moments in the story. The one ingredient I feel is missing in audiobooks is the narrator accurately delivering the dialogue of the male characters. A man can be a tough - take no bull kind of man but speak with loving tenderness to his wife or children. I should be able to hear the tiny growl in his voice when he speaks passionately of how he's going to seduce his lady, or that tiny hint of laughter in his tone when he speaks playfully and I absolutely should hear a lifetime of adoration when he expresses his love to her. I'm very disappointed when the male characters all sound monotone. I do feel this narrator spoke Regina's character flawlessly.
My favorite character....... It would be a struggle to only pick one from this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship & banter of Regina & her uncle Anthony.
When your heart say's "he's the one"
I can't wait to listen to more stories & escapades of the Mallory family by Johanna Lindsey.
i would recommend someone read this book. the narration detracted from the story.
The hero of the book sounded like an old woman -- as did every other man. And every now and then I'd detect a bit of "less than proper aristocratic" accent on the hero as the narrator was affecting a British accent (it was not natural). I may have enjoyed the story more with the right narrator. As it is, this is the first Johanna Lindsey book I've listened to (I've read and enjoyed her stories) and I'm seriously doubting I can get through the series with this narrator. What a shame as the reviews indicate the series is a good one.
I really liked this entire series. This was the first in the series, so it was unexpected for me. I enjoyed meeting the Malory family and learning of the traits that each brother posessed! I also loved how they all watch over Reggie and come together to help her throughout! Laural Merlington has a fabulous voice and I could really escape the perils of a hectic day. I have never enjoyed traffic jams so much!
I have followed the Malory clan from book one, this one is as good as the others, as audiobooks goes this is number one.
Reggie, because of her spunk.
When Nicholas found out that the woman he thought was his aunt was really his mother.
The book was great.
Johanna Lindsey always spins fun tales. This was a quick and easy read. I read when I'm doing my 30 minutes of eliptical/cardio and I couldn't quit reading it. I actually got in a 1 hour work out because I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't notice the time.
