Publisher's summary

Once upon a time… the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs - and time is running out.

Nicolai the Vampire was renowned for his virility, but in a twist of fate “The Dark Seducer” had become a sex slave in the kingdom of Delfina - stripped of his precious timepiece and his memory. All that remained was a primal need for freedom, revenge - and the only woman who could help him.

In her dreams, a wanton vampire called to Jane Parker, drawing her to his dark sexuality and his magical realm. But for a human, all was not a fairy tale in Delfina. Jane was the key to Nicolai’s memory… but exploiting her meant dooming the only mortal he craved.

This is the first book in Royal House of Shadows. The Quartet features new books from some of the biggest names in paranormal fantasy romance: Gena Showalter, Jill Monroe, Jessica Andersen, and Nalini Singh. Listen to a new book in the series every month, from now through November.

Great story, ok narrator

The story was great. But the narrator was a little hard to listen to when it came to the main male character. But the other characters voices were good. So if you can get past that give this one a go.

Aweful narration, good story

I am a huge Showalter fan so I read and reread her books. I was on a drive (16 hours with 5 teens) and I needed to shut them out. I switched books 3 times because the story is not as good when you have someone reading it badly. I finally finished on the way home. I will read the next book narrated by Bevier myself.

horrible narration

The book was good... Gena Showalter never disappoints. But the narration for the male part was AWFUL.

Okay...

I apparently just don’t really enjoy Gena’s adult fiction. This book wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. I’d have quit if I wasn’t interested in getting to Nalini’s book (book 4) in this series.

And the narrator? I am not a fan. She made Nicolai (well, everyone, but mostly Nicolai) sound like a caveman. It was so strange.

Story "So so" - Narrator "Not so much"

Gena, Gena, Gena what on earth happened?! Yikes! "Mine" "My woman/man" Really? I could swear you know better than this. The narrator. uggghhh what can I say. She reads the Eugenie Markham Series with Richelle Mead and it is fine. Every male character in this story sounded horrible - how could you listen to the daily takes and think, "Yeah, this lead guy needs to sound just like the ogres and dimwitted throughout the entire book." I know everyone knows better than this including the production staff. I listen only to audiobooks so I am absolutely sure everyone could have done a better job. I speak from the experience of enjoying all of Gena's other stories, other narration by Genvieve and listening to better production from the publisher.

Ok

3.5 Stars. I think I would have liked this more if I had read it vs listening to the audiobook. The narrator was good with most character voices...until she did the heroes voice. Unfortunately, her male voice made me cringe. I know I’m pretty picky about that, so I tried to ignore her performance of his character and enjoy the story despite it. I did like this story and will have to do a re-read with the book another time.

Not the best. Not the worst.

You can tell this is one of the earlier books. Not as well written as many of the others. And the performance didn't help things if I'm honest. Still a solid purchase. Just wasn't as enraptured as I've come to expect from Gena Showalter's books.
